Kick to Door Effective

Trece kicks the door with such force that it blasts out of the robed figure's hands and hits him hard in the knee. Momentarily, there is enough space for Trece to move through the low gate. Trece crouches down to the floor and slides through, drawing his weaponized spoon as he leaps back up to attack the big robed figure.

With the exertion of the explosive movement, Trece's head is spinning out of control. He strikes out as best as he can, but his attacks are slowed and somewhat misaligned. On one attack, the big man throws up an arm and barely blocks what could have been a wounding blow.

Attack 1 and 3 Miss
Attack 2 Hit

Trece's assault makes his enemy give ground though. Trece presses forward as he can.

Wisps of the smoke swirl out around Trece as he emerges from the last edge of the poison gas cloud. He can see more clearly, quite suddenly. He steps out past the edge of the short hallway, that is more like an extended threshold to the gate door behind. There is a lamp sitting on a shelf to the left that illuminates the general area.

Trece sees the robed hulk faltering a few steps backwards in fact. He is coughing heavily now, even slumped over momentarily with a fit of gagging. But Trece also sees him draw forth a flanged mace.

To the left, near the lamp, Trece sees for the first time...another black-robed figure. This one is much thinner in frame than the other, but still covered in a hooded robe. The hood though seems to be held up by some headdress worn within. The hood is spread quite wide, and Treces catches a fleeting glimpse of the man's face. It is a strange animalistic face of a bearded man, with goatish features!

Trece cannot study features for long though, the smaller robed man has a bow drawn and looses an arrow!

The hulking robed figure gathers himself and strikes out at Trece, swinging a bronze flanged mace with gusto.

Trece can tell that the big man is also, momentarily at least, feeling the effects of the poison gas.

OOC:
Thanks for the info, J. I chose my words poorly. Was thinking Bryn might try something with the pulley apparatus, which could require a skill roll with thieves tools:
DMJ says:
Ahead though he does see a rugged apparatus of pulleys and carrier brackets that route the chain and rope up from port holes in the floor and then through the port holes beside the door.
Mostly I'm just signalling to Oxbox the idea that we should work together to cancel out disadvantage, and since his modifiers are higher it would be worthwhile for him to roll and for me to provide the help action.
May 27, 2018 6:24 pm
Trece readies himself and attempts to catch the arrow that was fired at him.
OOC:
I'll most likely reduce the damage to 0 so I'll spend a ki point to make another attack with it.
Catching the arrow, he spins and tosses it towards the goatman.

Rolls

OOC:
All above makes sense, Len.
A little more on thoughts by Sizhen based on previous assessment...
note="lenpelletier"]Useful info below because:
1) Sizhen has background studying/facing demons
2) has studied and once traveled in the terrible "Veins of the Earth" (a reference used in Alijan, but also translated nearly word for word in Otessite Sizhen has learned), the great cracks, caves, fissures, tunnels that different cultures say lead to The Pit, Hel, The Underworld, etc.
3) Made the Arcana check previously
4) He's the inspector, always by nature working to exploit small details

...the giant bug is from the greatest depths, the terrible place of horror referenced in different ways. Alijanian calls it Hel as do some other languages. In studies of Heshbaan lore, they sometimes refer to these creatures as Edimmu. Some debate perhaps of the exact categories, but generally that means demon or devil, or at least "dark spirit".

High Suspicion: the creature will be susceptible to the extra damage of the White Cast Iron weapons.

Danger: it is intelligent, sentient, has language, may use strategy, is brutal and bent on delivering pain and destruction

The stirges and mega-bat are likely from deep caves, but not from the otherworldly levels of the darkest depths of the world. They are more like rare animals, but not demonic.[/note]

An uncanny display of speed and timing, Trece catches the arrow in mid-air and uses it as a weapon to return against his opponent!

Reaction arrow attack hit
OOC:
Hyp, by default with RAW I think that arrow has to be returned as a missile. In this circumstance, just for flavor and thinking about the spacing, I want to also extend the option that you could use it to stab the adjacent foe, the bigger robed guy. Can keep the same rolls to make it easy. I could see that making sense also.
It will apply to the lighter goat guy if you don't comment again, but can be transferred on the action scene to the other guy that you already hit if you claim it that way.
May 28, 2018 12:24 am
OOC:
Huh, I always thought as I had to return to sender; doesn't say anything of the sort though. Just says I make a ranged attack. Seeing how I'm at disadvantage either way, sure, I'll poke the dude in front of me instead.
May 28, 2018 2:59 am
Seeing Thorn pull his blade Bryn quickly draws both of his blades, moves in next to Thorn and attacks the bug creature.

Rolls

Attack 1 with disadvantage - (1D20+8, 1d20+8, 1d4+5, 3d6)

1D20+8 : (19) + 8 = 27

1D20+8 : (1) + 8 = 9

1d4+4 : (4) + 4 = 8

May 28, 2018 3:12 am
Sizhen leads with both white cast iron daggers drawn, providing a distraction. He veers off at the last minute, returning to the chain. He catches Bryn's eye and signals discretely to the daggers.

"My turn next," implying a reversal of the pattern of feinting and action.
OOC:
Readied action: Help action to Bryn.
Bonus action, Insightful Fighting against the Demon Bug - I rolled a 16 to contest bug's decpetion.

The demon bug leaps and its wings begin to buzz. It slides through the air with ease and picks up speed, its wings sounding a low growl that echoes in the torchlight chamber full of bats.

Weaving over and around the swords brandished against it, the monstrosity slams down onto the bell tree and shakes it with its arms and legs. The chime of three dozen bells rings out in a startling shot.

Disengage. Use Object / Interact with Environment

Suddenly the room explodes into motion. The sleeping bats are awakened!

Some only squirming at first, others dropping immediately into flight, the entire colony erupts. It is like a tornado of wings, claws, and sharp snouts.

Pushing back off of the bell hanger, the droning bug buzzes backwards in the air still facing the group. It glides through the air to hover in the southeast corner of the room. Stabilizing high near the ceiling, staring at the men near the door as if assessing them while out of reach.

Swirling. Churning. The greater bulk of the activated bats dive through the floor panel door that is still held open by the chain!

Maeriks moves across the room in the commotion.

As the giant bat with the great fanged maw flops down to the ground and turns, Maeriks approaches it! With the torch in one hand, he reaches into a pocket with another and throws the giant bat some food.

Closing his eyes and trying to ward off the flurry of wings and claws spinning through the air, Maeriks says out to the others, "We should go! Go!".

Save Fail. Spell effect begins.

The giant bat eats the food Maeriks throws and then stays on the ground looking at Maeriks curiously. It squeals out, bares its teeth and spreads its great wings. Horrifying.
But then it sniffs at Maeriks and tilts its head.

OOC:
Clarification: Looking back at writing above, I can see that I did not state clearly the results of Bryn's attacks, which also included Sizhen's Help Action. I did have it recorded in my Battle Sheet tracker, but just not communicated. Apologies.
So, here it is...
Attack 1: Hit
Attack 2: Miss

Because of Sizhen's Help Action, Attack 1 was NOT taken at Disadvantage. It was a normal Attack.
Because Thorn was adjacent to Bug, Sneak Attack was applied.
May 30, 2018 1:04 pm
"Lets get into the other room!" Bryn yells at the others through the flapping sound of wings beating next to him.
OOC:
Moving North through the door and I will hold my attack action if the bug or big bat try to come through. I’ll preroll at disadvantage.

Rolls

Attack with potential sneak - (1d20+8, 1d8+5, 3d6)

1d20+8 : (20) + 8 = 28

1d8+5 : (4) + 5 = 9

3d6 : (441) = 9

Disadvantage - (1d20+8)

(9) + 8 = 17

May 30, 2018 2:13 pm
Sizhen navigates the sea of stirges, rolling away from the worst of the blood suckers. He sees Bryn retreating and agrees it is the wisest move. He listens to the darkness to check if the room is occupied, and take up a position to flank an enemy that comes through the door.
OOC:
Use Uncanny dodge to halve the damage taken from the stirge, reducing it to 3. Then on this turn, ready a help action in case Bryn attacks, thus cancelling out his disadvantage.

Bryn backs out of the north door, but stages nearby the threshold to see if the monstrosities follow.

Maeriks starts backing to the door as well, while still facing the large bat that he seems to have subdued. The giant bat does not attack, but it eyes Maeriks and hops towards him when he backs up. It keeps its eyes scanning over him with what seems to be curiosity, but with the bat's horrid features it still appears thoroughly menacing by default.

With a free hand, Maeriks detaches a blood drinker bat from where it had latched onto his side. He winces in pain as the piercing proboscis is torn free.

Maeriks seems to be holding the large bat at bay and looking back to see if the others are moving out.

In the split seconds, the great bug is at the south corner of the room, buzzing and hovering up near the ceiling. Watching. So far it has not come forward.
