Ghoulish Slave vs. Kray
R2


The seasoned Jeresian has been in many battles, so he knows to keep one eye opened in the back of his head. Kray sees him charging headlong in at full speed.

Released by a chain held by one of the big Myrmidons marching out of the darkness, a wretched slave sprints in with reckless abandon. He wears only a short pair of tattered wool pants. His hands are covered in leather and metal, mail gloves with sharpened iron knives protruding like stocky claws on each finger.

More shocking even than that - the slave's mouth and lower face is exposed to gnarled muscle. No lips and teeth exposed. Nose eaten away. The ghoulish maniac is spraying vomit and coughing spittle even as it slams into Kray trying to tear him apart.

Claws Attack

The slave's slash with its left hand collides head on with Kray's Otessite blade. The clawing swing is so violent that the wretch tears off two of its own fingers, damaging its weaponized glove in the process as it wrenches it out from the serrated edge of the Judgment.

A squad of myrmidons advance in a charge. Their armor is weathered and battered, but adequate. Their axes and blades are worn and abused, but they hack with them violently at Bryn, Kray, and Maeriks.

Iasu leans in close to Namtur and fires over his shoulder at one of the assaulting spider men.

Ranged Attack SM5

The shot goes on a wild release when Namtur is shoved backward into him. Recovering, Iasu pivots back and waits patiently, letting all of the hostile opponents around him commit. At the last instant he bolts forward, loops around the line, and slides around to support his brothers on the right side.

Use of Skirmisher ability as Reaction for Movement boost and avoid OAs.
Movement and repositioning.


He seeks concealment among the darkness in the shadow filled room.

The gel rolls forward, globbing further into the room in a quaking surge. It spreads out in a wide mass as it passes the threshold of the entryway.

Anything in its path is at risk of being engulfed. It overtakes without discrimination.

Ahri is Engulfed at beginning of Gel's turn. Ahri takes automatic acid damage.

The ghoulish slave stumbles over itself as it closes, Kray pivoting to avoid its manic charge. Just as he sidesteps the now engaged myrmidon's battle axe, the threatening bastard leans in surpisingly close, getting far too intimate for Kray's comfort, teeth getting a piece of the former Jeresian warlord in the process.


J, the bite from before got Kray, but he Parried all the damage. This guy, however, got me with his precious little myrmidon not fully monster teeth. Rolling for save. Also, since that ghoulish rolled a nat 1, can we put him on the floor so I can properly gut him in the future?

Ha! Worth asking. I won't level a Condition on him, but he can suffer some equipment damage. Will add a narrative extra.

Also, yes: since you parried the entire amount of damage, it would seem that the bite that was a hit is nullified, so that coincidentally avoids the requirement of the Save. Nice application.

As the predatory gel pours in, the spider fiends do their best to turn and leap forward to escape.

DC 12 DEX Save required to avoid Engulf by Gel.

SM 1 Fail
SM 4 and SM 6 Success


The spider fiend near the center of the line is engulfed by the moving sludge. The set of bodies on the ground are washed over as well and quickly funneled back into the center of the mass of gel.

The spider fiend on the outside edge is able to leap free. Another tries to clamor over Kray to safety, but opens himself up to a challenge. Kray, always reacting to opportunities in the chaos of battle, tries to lean in and keep the spider monster in the path of the deadly ooze.

Optional Action, Kray: STR Athletics Check in opposition to SM6 Check below. If Kray wins, he holds SM6 in position, preventing Movement and causing Engulf of SM6 by Gel.

The sludge is too fast and fills in all around the big myrmidon as he is still oppressed by surrounding enemies.

At the last second, Kray leans hard into the spider fiend's path, blocking its desperate attempt to escape the plowing gelatinous monstrosity.

The surging gel surrounds the spider monster as Kray holds it back. The beast is sucked back into the sludge, squealing as it is engulfed. Kray steps away and turns back to full combat against other opponents. He stands right at the edge of the gel's advance.

Closing Out Round 2

Required:

Thorn needs to DEX Save DC 12 to avoid Engulf by Gel.

Trece needs to roll Initiative in the Kung Fu showdown.

Bryn, Maeriks report on whether or not they were bitten by Myrmidons. And if bitten by whether or not they succeeded CON Save



Optional:

Thorn can sneak in a spare Attack to get full use of Action Surge (discussed above) before the official end of the Round 2, IF he Saves on the DEX against Engulf.

Noteworthy: Ahri's dropped torch that was one of the few light sources just got snuffed and dissolved by the gel. So that right side of the room, especially the back corner, just went from torchlight shadowy to pretty fucking dark.

Thorn feels the touch of the gel from behind as he battles the enemy before him, and instinctively leaps to get out of the way.

Holy shit.
Barely escaping the engulfing mass, he continues the grim task of cleaving through enemy bodies, trying to stay even with Bryn and Kray.
OOC:
Attacking the injured enemy to Bryn's left (can't see its number on the map). If dead, Thorn will occupy that space, otherwise overrun to just beyond it.

Also just read that SM7 tried to stab Thorn twice and bite once. Both stabs missed, but the bite hit, so also rolling the DC 11 CON Save.

Edit: looks like I forgot to add the modifier to my STR Athletics Check to overrun. That should be a +8 for a total of 28!

Closing out Round 2 attacks on Maeriks:
MZ Kukri v. Maeriks Hit, 7 damage.
MZ Bite v. Maeriks Miss.

Maeriks is hunched over, hands on knees, head low in pain as he continues his low groan of agony. He almost tips forward, but catches himself with a hand on the ground. He rests there a moment, when he catches the movement of myrmidons advancing out of the corner of his eye. He moves to deflect an incoming kuruki slash, but is too slow moving from his pained-stance and takes a small gash.

Then, turning into his attacker, Maeriks brings up his arm. What just moments ago was a hand placed on the ground now appears to be a hoof! He swipes at the myrmidon with it, attempting to wrap it around the attacker and pull him in close for an awkward grapple. At the same time, he brings his low head around to smash it into the other side of the myrmidon. As Maeriks' head arcs up, the guttering torch light casts strange shadows that seem as if Maeriks' face were elongated, pulled forward and framed by a pair of horns!
