Bryn yells out again when he hears Iasu scream, but never takes his eyes from the chains "Kray, where is Iasu?! Is he over The Pit and how high is he? What is Elam doing?"

The wretch screams and rages, leaping with reckless abandon. It is as if he is trying to EAT Thorn!

The rumbling and scraping of heavy stone sounds out high in the room.

Maeriks falls forward to grab the chain barrier. "Thorn!" he yells out desperately. Turning to Kray, Maeriks asks with wild confusion, "What do we do?"
OOC:
We're on a blend of R3 into R4.

X, Thorn did Dodge Action R3, staged from previous. Post now what he does for a next Combat Round.

Anyone else can throw anything out on the table. Go at it!

Kray recognized the Pale One now as Bushyasta, and Elam was clearly confronting the pale skinned monstrosity. This new combatant had entered the fray, in what was opposition to Elam. Kray had seen the havoc such events could wreak on the battlefield and knew the potential for it to be either an improvement to or an exacerbation of their predicament.

This could be exactly what they needed. The opportunity must be seized. Allow Elam and the Pale One to focus on one another, facilitating Kray and the team's survival by any means necessary. Wealth couldn't be spent by the dead. It could found on another day, in another time and place. Whatever lay beyond the vault doors could remain unknown, for all he cared. Kray and any man with breath to draw needed escape from this mad house.

Kray answered Bryn, witnessing the unreality of the scene, years of experience barely suppressing the adrenaline coursing through his own veins."A monstrous pale fiend opposes Elam who moves away, directing large stone shifting above, out of sight. Iasu hangs bleeding high above the Pit, beyond reach."

Kray was incredulous as he looked to Maeriks, now a bloody mess of a man. Still standing. "You've given enough, big man. Help Bryn in any way you can. Stay alive, we are leaving!"

Kray is still on full D, ready to move. Dodge action, BA 3/4 shield cover, his own back up against Bryn's.

Fellas, none of these demonic fucks or otherwise are going to want us here. We are exit stage left.

Thorn knows if he strikes out at the creature in his weakened state, he will very like give it a lethal opening. Hair matted with blood and sweat, muscles aching, mind numb, the warrior uses his flagging resolve to dodge the monster's attacks. This cannot last much longer.

Hurry up, Bryn.

Bryn
(DM Control)

Bryn shouts out, "Everyone, listen! There is NO time to explain, but we have to work fast, no mistakes, or we are all FUCKED!"

He breathes heavy and steals one quick glance over his shoulder, getting a picture of all distance and positioning, then turns back to the chain barrier at the door.

"There will be enough room to pass through when I loose a few more Irons – be ready! Thorn get ready to move through! Somebody kill fat man and then GUARD THIS PATH! It’s probably going to be the only way out."

Bryn shouts a command and racks another chain loose. An opening is forming now, almost enough for someone to move through.

"And then" he shouts, breathes heavy, and again "…and then…we have to save Iasu."

An impossible task.

"We have to Kray. He and Elam are the key to this. All of this - the whole house. One or the other of them is going to be the last. One survivor."

He looks over, another quick glance back at the Pit, looking up to the chains above even as he looks back and snatches another chain free with an eldritch word.

"It has to be Iasu! We can’t let him die. If Elam makes it out… it’s over. No matter where we run."

Bryn looks Kray in the eye. "No treasure. Just Iasu. We have to do it. I can get up there."

Kray sees that Bryn doesn’t know if he believes that or not.

Bryn shakes his head, knowing that his doubt is apparent, but dismissing it to himself and to Kray. It has to work or nothing will work.

"But I need some fucking cover and someone to catch us, goddammit!" he yells out, as he turns back to the barrier chains to finish the breakaways. "So are we ready to GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE, or am I jumping off of the Edge of the World by myself?!"

Thorn, Maeriks, Kray, and Ryhim – the last ones standing together at the Gate to Hel – hear the question as what it is, a call to action.

Maybe the last.

OOC:
see what you think of that. RP entries only for now. don't start rolling Attack Actions. We'll make the shift to that all at once, but wanted to open this up for consumption and response.
Apr 8, 2019 1:55 pm
Iasu hangs suspended, helpless, blood streaming. Unable to move his limbs, but he trembles with the emotions raging within. Despair. Confusion. Loss. Defeat. No defiance, no longer. Simush. Shining Horns. He who all his cursed life of pain and suffering never wept, nor laughed, never lashed out in anger, never loved. Almost. He raises his face towards Elam. "Farewell, brother. You were the only family I ever had. I loved you. By my blood, be free. Live."

Maeriks
(DM Control)

"Yeah!" Maeriks says with enthusiasm in Dannein. "Get Iasu. We'll carry him. He has medicine."

With one quick hand, Bryn passes Maeriks the White Cast Iron knife. Maeriks takes it and stands ready at the barrier. Looking through to the other side, he yells out loud.

"Get ready, Thorn! Come through, and then I'll stab that fat guy!"
Apr 8, 2019 2:10 pm
Thorn manages a nod to Maeriks while keeping eyes on the monster. He tenses, ready to spring away from the beast and through the opening Bryn provides.

DMJ sent a note to Ezeriah
"Fuck it all - I don’t know if we have to save him! Probably we don’t and we could still make it out! I definitely don’t know if I can get him down or not. But we shouldn’t leave him to this – it’s too much! We've come this far - WE brought him here as much as anyone." Bryn yells at Kray.

The man speaks with pain and guilt, like a confession - yelling over the noise of the rattling chains and Elam's augmented voice echoing through the room.

Bryn turns and shouts out the strange power words, tearing two more chains loose.

There is enough space – a breach in the barrier!

"Stay or go - every man's choice now!" Bryn shouts, to everyone.
"I'm going," he says rather quietly, looking at Kray. Then turning his head out, states it again louder, a decision. "I'm going for Iasu."

With one Iron Chain still in hand, Bryn turns to the side and strides away. On the move, he shouts out an eldritch command. The chain lifts off of the floor and sails towards the other clattering chains hanging over The Pit, lifting Bryn with it.

PC Choice (Thorn, Kray, Ryhim):

1) Press through the opening, to join Thorn in the ascending tunnel. Fight one human-sized devil psycho. Make a run up the tunnel. Leave the Pit Chamber, and Iasu, behind.

2) Stay and fight in the Chamber of the Pit, versus Monsters and Elam Ironnmaster, and try to save Iasu.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Saving Iasu is not for necessity, it's a choice.

Success will be far from guaranteed, and survival is surely on the line.

Could be suicide to stay.

Walking away increases chances of survival dramatically - we all know that.

TPK shuts it all down. For all of us. Probably for good.

We all know the dichotomy between Character vs. Player.

The Character wants to try to save the poor guy. Can't stand this level of suffering. Iasu is a nice guy. It's the right thing to do. There is glory in being bold and risking it all and living to tell the tale. That could be realistic.

The Character walking away to fight another day. He doesn't really even know this guy that well. Terrible watching him suffer, but can't take the risk on sentiments. It's a cold world. It's not logical and not your battle. That could be realistic too. Makes perfect sense.

But maybe you can't walk away.

This might be for the whole game.

Post up.

What do you do?

Wild Wretch v. Thorn

The screaming biter lunges again at Thorn with sharp teeth and claws.

Attacks Disadvantage by Dodge

Thorn moves and evades, trying to stay alive while Bryn continues to release lines from the chain barrier.

Maeriks is on the other side, watching intently and calling out to him.

Finally there is an opening, probably large enough to slip through to the other side.

(6) + 2 = 8

"Bryn, WAIT!!! Don't---"

Kray was too late and watched as Bryn ascended to his death, or worse, then noticed Iasu. What he saw there was Iasu's acceptance of the moment, all that it meant. And Kray would not let that be in vain.

In an instant, Kray returned to the task at hand. Survival, for all of those who had a chance. Those who, despite the odds, still had a shred of hope to do so. Even the faintest of chance.

The death of those men who had a chance would not be on Kray, not to be added to the countless who already tormented his every night's sleep.

At that, Kray bellowed to those nearby. Maeriks, Ryhim, Thorn.

"Make no mistake, we are leaving NOW!" Kray punctuated the words with a look shot at Maeriks.

You can't save them!

Kray emphasized the point to Maeriks. "NOW, Maeriks. Don't look back!"

He knew the beast that awaited on Thorn's side of the chain barrier, an opening now large enough to move through. Kray would deal with the abomination himself.

My understanding is we are out of action time and just RP here. Asap, Kray will burst through and take that fucker on, his best effort to ensure that it does not target the others.

If Thorn was hit, bonus action to rally him. Let me know when we're back in action, J.

OOC:
Alright let's do this.

Typing up a few thoughts, several as much for myself as record keeping so I'll know what the fuck I'm doing maybe if I have to read back on this when things get confusing.

We're shifting BACK TO COMBAT STYLE ROUND MANAGEMENT.

Right now, it looks like there are two lines that are set to diverge:
Kray is "Go"
NPC Bryn is "Stay"
Iasu is automatically in "Stay".
(Ouch. Sorry, Jabes. It came to mind, so I just went with it.)

Will see where it goes from there. Wherever / whatever, we'll work it out and adjust on the fly as things develop.

Ryhim kneels, his bow held off to the side, as he stares at a folded paper in his other hand. His face is saddened. He tucks the folded paper into his robes as he stands. He feigns a smile to Kray "It would seem circumstances has made a liar of me, my feet walk a different path. Ryhim was not left for dead, I will not leave them to a fate that so to held me; so long as they draw breath."

Busy at work but want to get my init in. Have at it Hyp. May J be merciful, for your sake.

Attack 1d6
Move 1d6
Bonus action 1d6

We'll see how this plays out. At the least, I imagine Kray will cut down this bastard in the tunnel on his way. Carve any other shit up that is along the tunnel through the Seance Room. It's bad business in the Pit Room, but Kray isn't going to just leave y'all a rough path out.

Fates = J and RNG. Good luck, fellas.

Rolls

Initiative - (1d6, 1d6, 1d6)

It's brutal, Jabes. You have to see where Iasu is though.
HP damage is already posted on 2 previous posts: here and here.
Reduction of CON will also cause reduction of HPs by loss of HP boosts per level.

Report in if Iasu moves to 0 HP.
