Outside the Snake Door


Kray and Thorn move through the still smoldering remnants of the broken Snake Door. Heavy smoke still hangs thick in the hallway beyond. The smell of burning wood and the thin air makes for clogged breathing.

There at the outside wall, offset to the right of the door, lays the cache of dropped gear.

Kray and Thorn see all of their own bags and supplies they left behind as well as the carry from the others. Maeriks' armor, glaive, and pack are all there. Even Elam's satchel is there. Thorn had noticed it earlier, and had seen that it was packed with scrolls and writings, consolidated items from Adar-Malic and Akeen after their demise.

Optional Action, Kray, Thorn: Make decision and record keeping notation of any gear desired for recovery.

Thinking back over the route, Kray and Thorn both can remember how to return to the fortified headquarters chambers where they had first been taken by The Cursed.

They remember too that it was some sort of crank mechanical lift in those very chambers that had lowered them to these subterranean floors beneath the haunted Adriyalet House.

The droning buzz from the Pit is raging. Soon it will drown out all other sound.

The chain pillar quakes. The climbing beast, whatever it is, is soon to emerge. Iasu can see something taking shape in the edge of he darkness below. Ryhim can hear the closeness of something rattling against the chains, just beneath the veil of black.

The disgusting flying head, still perched atop its pale and imposing master, shouts out in Heshbaan - its coarse buzz, "THE HARVESTER!!! ITS SPEARZZ!!! ELAM IS DOOMMMEDDD!!!! ALL MORTALS DOOOMMED!!!! DOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!

Hyp, not sure if the above roll / Action list is accurate, complete, etc. Looking back, I called for you to commit and roll before the circumstance was clear, before R3 was finalized. My fault.

Take time now to make final decision of Action set and corresponding rolls required for Initiative. It seems to be a moment to think carefully about what to try to get done in a very critical moment.

You have option of using the previous roll if it is desirable and complete, or just roll again. Either way, direct me to what final Initiative is.

Bros, RESCUE R4 is a BIG ONE!

Can't believe how this is shaping out.

Bryn looks down into The Pit.

He knows what is coming now.

There isn't enough time. Not enough time to get down and through the barrier.

Bryn looks over to see Ryhim and Maeriks struggling at the edge.

"Go! Get out of here! You have to go NOW!"

A roar rolls up from The Pit.

The Harvester.

Bryn clings down close to Iasu, shouting in his ear even though he is right next to him.

"There is only one more thing to try! If it works you'll have to pull your self free and climb out once you get there! If it doesn't work..."

Bryn pauses.

"...I'm sorry."

Suspended over The Edge of the World, Bryn puts his hands on the Iron Snakes of Hinnon that bind Iasu.

And the warlock begins to speak the Ancient Words.

Ryhim's black eyes stare as Elam disappears into the darkness, he curses to himself. A hopeless shot, a missed opportunity, he turns to face the pit. He talks to Maeriks as he stares down into the endless depths "Find your way through the chain door, you will not escape if you linger; not in your condition." As he continues, he traces down his chained leg with his nocked arrow "Don't worry for me, Ryhim is a nomad; we look after ourselves." He looks back at Maeriks and winks "Don't worry for Ryhim." then releases the arrow, puncturing his leg.

A precise strike, a struck nerve, causes him to stumble back. He takes a breath, snaps the arrow's fletching off, and slides it out of the wound.
OOC:
This initiative is still confusing, I'm not entirely sure of this is possible. Let me know what is and isn't possible:

Attack1 on myself; autohit I'm assuming, pushing attack added to break grapple.
Skip and save action surge.
Bonus action swap hide to second wind, same initiative dice, would change anythinng, makes sense. Maybe not can?

**Should specify: ¡100% NOT PUSHING MYSELF INTO THE PIT!

Damage received: 22 reduced by 6 for a total of...16. Minus 1 Superiority Die.

You know what else is confusing? People shooting themselves in the fucking leg, and it force blows them loose of wrapped chains!

That's weird, bro. Some crazy desert nomad pseudo-physics technique. But...

WE'RE GOING WITH IT!
Ryhim leans back with Maeriks holding him under the arm and the chain pulling him the other way, gripping his leg right near the top of knee. Pulling the bow back to full extension and carefully lining an arrow up right at the bottom of his thigh, Ryhim releases.

The arrow cuts into his skin but more also drives the bone forward. At the exact same instant he thrusts his leg backwards. The combined force is enough to snatch his leg free from the grip of the chain that binds him.

Hit with Pushing Attack Battle Maneuver.
Ruling: Pushing Maneuver breaks Grapple, but does not propel recipient forward an additional 10'. Position adjusts 5'.
OOC:
No need to apply Sneak Attack damage in this maneuver. I get it - by the rules...
But I think Ryhim knows when/where/how the shot is coming! Ha!
Ryhim and Maeriks tumble back when he burst free. Now they are both off of the sloping ledge at least.

Maeriks rumbles quickly to his feet and stays in motion towards the chain barrier exit. "Come on!" he yells desperately in his native tongue of Dannein.

Ryhim tears the arrow free and takes a deep breathe to deal with the pain.

As he does he ducks low and takes cover and hopefully concealment low and behind the large brass cauldron.

Not a formal all-pro Hide attempt, but seems like a general descriptor given the spacing and position.

Bryn speaks out the ancient incantation, seeking to weave a command to make the iron snake bands that bind Iasu's torso to loose themselves.

Arcana Attempt to Unbind 1 Set of Iron Bands.
Gradated DC: 1-6 Fail, 7-13 Loose in 2 Rounds, 14+ Loose immediately

WOOOOOO!!! Look at that, Jabes!
Result: 19. Immediate success.

The mass of iron snakes begin to writhe. With an assertive move, Bryn thrusts a hand down, takes hold of a large set of the snakes right between Iasu's shoulder blades. Forcefully, he snatches them back, and the handful of snakes are torn away.

These squirm in Bryn's hand briefly before he drops them into The Pit. The others lingering on Iasu's neck, shoulders, and chest fall away as well, disappearing into the darkness.

Iasu's arms and torso are free!

But his legs are still held fast, and he is immediately separated from the Main Irons that were attached to the upper bands.

A sudden sensation of falling. Iasu drops forward, pivots to suspension with his head and arms hanging down, and begins to swing forward wildly towards the south wall - INVERTED!

Spotting Elam's satchel on the floor, Kray wastes no time and throws it over his shoulder, next to his own satchel. Torch in the left hand, he sheathed Judgement and grabs the loot sack, ever vigilant for any threat, visible or audible.

If Thorn wants to grab the Maeriks glaive, great. It's +1, so worth keeping and might be useful in escape somehow (leverage or reach, if needed). Also, Kray would pick up rope on the way, wherever he might spot it. The armory, perhaps. Thorn has rope as well, just in case. Eyes open for anything that might seem useful.

As Iasu swings wildly, Bryn hangs on to one of The Main Irons, lowering it and doing what he can to control Iasu's momentum with countering pushes. It causes Bryn's chain to swing in motion as well.

Then the light of the fires throughout the room wane out. The room begins fading to black.

Just before the light dies, Iasu, suspended head downward over The Pit, gets a glimpse of it.

Massive. Reptilian. It's surges up and to the edge at full speed. The Harvester is like a great serpent, but also like a giant man.

Then the glimpse is gone. Darkness.

Iasu is hit by the bulk of the monster and sent spinning. Crashing into Bryn.

Ryhim, at the heavy cauldron, sees as the light dies out when the fire right within the cauldron flickers and fades. Within seconds the flames is reduced to embers. The same happens with the other cauldron. The corner hearth fire sputters and drops down.

Darkness reigns through the chamber, and now something massive slides out of The Pit, leaping from the chain pillar which it climbed and onto the floor. Rydler cannot see the details, but sees an image of something like a great snake gliding across the floor like water, moving in an instant to the northwest corner. In the final glow from the corner fire, Ryhim sees the scaled mass moving up the north wall!

The loud buzzing, like a swarm of locusts, is roaring now.

Still, Ryhim can hear Elam scream out in agony from the back heights of the room.

Bryn clings to The Main Iron that he rides, his foot locked tightly in the end hook. He moves the chain in strong to Iasu, crashing into him in an attempt to stop the wild swinging motion.

Fear is pouring over Bryn like a wave, but he knows he has to stay in control.

He speaks the commands and the Small Irons converge back inward. Bryn puts up his hand and guides them with the words he speaks.

The razor sharp chains begin to hook and weave and latch to the Iron Bands that still bind Iasu's legs together.

Movement. Interact with Environment.

Bryn knows that the light is gone now, but his eyes need no light. He can see perfectly. The Small Irons are almost secure for the lift.

Bryn looks briefly over to the exit at the floor. He is glad to see that Maeriks is climbing through the barrier.

Go, Maeriks. Move through and run.
Bryn doesn't try to shout his instructins though. The roaring buzz from The Pit would swallow up the sound of his voice from this distance. He sends them to Maeriks telepathically. And then another similar message to Ryhim.

Then Bryn draws his kukri and lowers down to pull face to face with Iasu who hangs upside down.

The +1 item was the war axe club Reave, gifted to Namtur earlier. It is not here.

In the extreme low light of the ember fires, it is impossible to see exactly what is going on, but the explosion of sound - the swirl of wind - the air is overtaken as a swarm of large flying insects explode into the chamber - the droning buzz spewing forth from The Pit.
