Sizhen has moved up online with Ryhim and Kray. The Alijanian is slightly off to the right (east) and lays flat on the ground behind his backpack, to get some measure of cover and maintain a low profile.
Distance from wood line (normal terrain): 180 ft
Current distance from shooter: 210 ft

Thorn has dropped down beside Maeriks a few paces further back.
Distance from wood line (normal terrain): 210 ft
Current distance from shooter: 240 ft

The members of the crossing group takes what defensive measures they can (Prone, Shield Cover, etc.) as they communicate amongst themselves.

The shooter sees the targets clearly. The druid shapeshifter is down. They are positioned in two range groups and trying to defend against arrows. No movement yet beyond the Alijanian sprinting forward before dropping prone.

Terrain Notes: The flood plain, considered Difficult Terrain - At its most stable, it is grass-covered soggy ground that collapses under any weight, causing walkers feet to sink into mud. At its lower dips, there is standing water with the muddy ground beneath. Water levels vary from ankle to shin deep. In this area, there are no dips in the ground that put water up to knee deep. Off to the left (west), the ground does slope lower again, eventually allowing for a pond area that likely starts shallow and increases depth further west.

Range Notes: It has been brought up, accurately, that the crossing group is currently in Long Range for a longbow. Normal Range for longbow is 150 feet. So that means shots should be taken from Disadvantage until when/if the Range changes. That truth exposes what probably was a bad ruling on my part. I set the original Range and spacing of the first shot, not really in reference to longbow range, but instead by placing the crossers roughly in a middle distance of the crossing ground. Simush may have decided to wait longer and let his targets get within normal Range. On the other hand, the crossers would have been that much closer and have a shortened distance/time if they decide to assault. I plunged in without covering all of those things in questions, but we are where we are.
Ruling: I'm not going to go back now and retcon Range/Distance, but also not going to retcon Maeriks getting shot and put down. Things stay as they are. This means that at the moment, at current positions, no matter if the crossing team is Dodging, Prone, or not, then Longbow shots are made at Disadvantage. In coming rounds obviously, both crossers and shooters may change Range/Distance to affect impacts.

Horse notes: As mentioned above or in Admin I think, the shooter is not on horseback at the moment. Sizhen spotted the horse and identified it as "further up the hill and right."

Ez: Bonus Action Shield is in. Movement was discontinued (or at least paused). Finalize Action set for R1.

Jabes: Roll for Initiative (which will be R2 and recurring), by the book 5e.

Hyp: Send R1 Action and Initiative for following Rounds. You've been quiet, Hyp. Bro, are you quitting under protest? If so, stop being such a pussy, post up, and start trying to kill Iasu. Murdering Jabes' character will be a lot better protest and a lot funnier, and then you can still complain about me for letting it all happen, being unfair, etc. etc.

DETRIMENTAL ENCOUNTER!
You guys passed the Skills Challenge to get avoid one, but Iasu decided after his resort spa sesh that you still had to face another, one that he would be managing. So let's get it on!

Ryhim takes off, sprinting towards the far side of the field. Fleet of foot and hopping from one spot of best ground to the next, the Sarceran covers a great distance in a short time given the terrain.

At the end of the movement, he drops to the ground in anticipation of another incoming arrow.

45 feet total Movement (after Difficult Terrain factor).
Prone Condition taken.

Distance to wood line: 135 feet
Distance to shooter: 165 feet
OOC:
Unfortunately for Ryhim, no terrain Cover to be gained.

Seeing one victim fall to the arrow and the others scrambling and vulnerable, the edimmu flier revels in the chaos and predicted slaughter.

"Haaaill, VICTOOOOORR!!," it buzzes, flapping its wings in the tree. "The Champion SLLAAAAAAAAAAAAEEYYYYZZAA!!"

OOC:
Next steps, as I see them:

1) Kray finish R1 Action

2) Simush is first for R2 and recurring. After Kray, Simush post Action.

3) After that, since crossing party is in a grouping as far as the order goes, you have option to stick with the published order or can elect to go to a different order, or go first come-first serve. Your call.
May 12, 2019 1:58 pm
Simush watches them dive for cover. Predictably, Sizhen and Kray push forward. It is a marvel that the Alijanian still has his wits about him and hasn't succumbed to the Depth Sickness yet. The Sarceran is less predictable. That one could ruin it all. But first, the spotter. As Simush falls back to his horse, he deploys the edimmu flier, sending the bat-winged creature flying high across the flood plain to help him gauge the range to his target. He's counting on these thieves not having any bows of their own.
OOC:
• Advantage via edimmu air support canceled by Disadvantage via prone target.
• Given present conditions, am assuming sneak attack is not viable.

Before posting the rest of my turn, I have questions:

How much farther up this rise til I crest it? Is it a ridge, or plateau? More to the point, do I risk losing line of sight if I withdraw? Of course, if that's the case then they will also lose sight of me.

What of the other operators in the area? The Gilded Armsmen. The Korvarans. Jumoke, the Otessite merc. Do I currently have eyes on any of them? Or some intel via edimmu report?

The edimmu head flies out over the field and sights for its master.

OOC:
I have to go to Notes here because of the nature of the questions asked.
OOC:
Nah. Will stick to my previous commitment to making all my writing public. Not perfectly fair, but what is at this point. Ha!
OOC:
The rise is gradual, but yes, once Simush withdraws from current firing point, he would lose sight of them and they would lose sight of him, because of the trees and foliage. I think he might generally know where they are though. Out in the field.

Rushing the wood line would seem to give the crossing team at least SOME advantage (not Advantage). Simush's tree line is also their "finish line" to reach the forest. I would not think that the would want to go the other way. That would be back to the road - very vulnerable to patrols closing in.

The area is canvassed with both Gilded Armsmen and Korvarans. Simush knows that a close team is east of here, less than a mile, where the road across the flood plane turns hard north and leads into the forest, where it gradually fades out unused.

I don't see a great option of flanking. The obstacles for the crossing party are obstacles for Simush as well. Surrounded by Difficult or Impassable Terrain in all directions southward (the flood field and all sides) all the way to the road.

The only moveable directions with a horse are northward into the forest. To move south with a horse, Simush would need to go down to the road head to the east. Which is fine because he does have that pass placard, but that route does involving passing the Korvarans/Armsmen who are stationed there and launching various foot and mounted sorties in the area.

So to sum it up, I think Simush can withdraw all he wants, back into the forest. I think flanking, though not impossible, is not easy. It would involve getting into Difficult Terrain and open spaces with fewer Hide options, or it would mean going far east to the road and then back around.

Jumoke was spotted by the edimmu further south, but it is currently unknown his exact location.
Another arrow sails in. Sizhen barely moves out of the way before it kills him.

Attack Hit
OOC:
OK. Will let that one go. No matter what order it's in, the numbers will say that NPC Sizhen has to take that hit.

But really, Kray still has the remaining Round 1 Action. He was doing Movement, then he wasn't. So we need to know that to close Round 1 completely.

After that, Round 2 has begun. Somewhat prematurely. With Simush's main Action (Attack) in, now he is deciding other Actions (Bonus, Movement) in the set.

But Players' Club, after that, it's got to become more "open-and-close" for each entry. This is a tense scene with a million questions in all directions. Will try to answer, but I'm not going to keep managing it with Actions put out and then canceled and then partial actions out of sequence followed by questions and delayed finishes for the rest of the Action set.

So a restate of current situation:

1) Kray confirm or change previously posted Action/Movement for Round 1.

2) Simush inform on additional Actions desired (if any) after info provided.

3) We continue along Initiative Order, or in varied order for crossing party if they desire, with each entry including complete Action sets.

OOC:
Likewise opening my note. No additional action from Simush this round (Round 2). Holding position by his horse, preparing to reposition depending on developments.
May 12, 2019 8:03 pm
I'll keep Kray's movement with the dash and shield cover, on top if getting to additional cover on the way, like Ryhim and Sizhen. Shield cover + terrain cover.

Maeriks' eyes flutter. For a brief moment, he seems to have recognition.

"Thorn..." he says, in a quiet voice. His eyes dart around in worry. His hand moves up to his chest and he cringes. "...I wish we ... could make it ... to that forest ...."

He gasps for breath in a few gulps before his body convulses and goes still. Blood trickles from his mouth as his eyes flutter and fall blank.

Optional Action, Thorn: Begin attempt to stabilize the dying, using WIS Medicine Check. Will follow House Rules on treatment. Identify whether trying, to restore Life Marks or Remove Death Marks.
