Xorthan sent a note to DMJ
Thorn finished his walkthrough of the room, then lounges on one of the couches in the room.

"Nothing worthwhile here, Kray."

A few moments pass.

"Remember the speech the wife of the King gave back at the Hall of the Nasi?" he says abruptly. When Kray nods, he continues, recounting a portion of his conversation with Bandi.

"I met her upstairs before she gave the speech. She was interested in talking religion and politics, mainly; but she spoke of... a vile darkness in the city. Something about the Hileli being right and underserving of slaughter..." Thorn pauses.

"I've been thinking about that a bit since then. Maybe it's the same vile darkness we encountered on the way here. Yshala, but it seems like every job we do this last year starts out normal enough and quickly breaks apart into vile darkness."

Thorn gestures, raising left, then right hand with each enemy as he continues: "We start simple, fighting Gandish or Korvorans. Then things start getting strange, with Glaakieiou or hell hounds. Then it's the fucking Hierophant and..." Thorn trails off, his left hand higher then his right. He look at his right hand and shrugs, one eyebrow raised.

Trece observes Sizhen with a weary eye, his hand still hidden in his robes
[ +- ] Zutaran
Sizhen replies calmly.
[ +- ] Zurtaran
He uses the Heshbaan word for the Red Bastion so as to keep Bryn up to speed.

Kray took a moment to listen at the door before reclining into a chair himself, another cloud exhaled as he does so. Immediately he finds comfort. "Events around us do seem to unfold in the most peculiar of ways. I sense it too. As if we're on a similar path as in the Borgh. Escalating toward some inevitable confrontation with the surreal and unreal."

He acknowledged Thorn's elevated hand with a nod. "Escalating. Always the nature of conflict. Yet this somehow seems like a veil has been lifted. Eyes opened now to something that was always there. Watching. Waiting. Lurking, yet hidden in the shadows."

Kray considered the poet in the Griffon room along with Ivor's recently ended trance like state. "Or hidden in plain sight, like the poets. Something about that seemed... manipulative. The comfort stations and the drugs are likely part of it. An effort for control of some sort. Take Ivor as an example. It was unnatural, to say the least."

Kray looked at Ivor. "Take a load off. We're secure in here for a moment, at least. Taking stock."

Perception check at the door.

Post roll: Lmao X. We are sucking big time on having a clue.

Kray goes to the door, looks it over for clues and tries to listen for what might be outside. Nothing abnormal, but it is a heavy door, and may not let in quieter sounds.

The bolt on the inside was thrown into place by Ra u nak after he closed it. It is a moderately strong metal bolt and bracket, sitting at the top end of the door and extending towards the center of the door for perhaps a foot or so. Kray ascertains that it would definitely keep someone from barging in normally, though it probably would not withstand a full breach effort for long if someone outside was willing to use force, with some sort of ram or other strong crashing force.

Ultimately we're in our own tomb here if they come knocking. Perhaps we finish our respite and see what's beyond the door. Reconnect with Bryn, if possible."

J, Kray would know Bryns general plan as far as the Oceans 11 reason for being here? Eg same general direction?

Also, where we are would we generally be perceived as trespassing? Off limits to the party?

In the off-limit areas...

Bryn seems a bit stumped. What he thought was a solo stealth recon has now been joined by not one but two interlopers. He looks on as the Seetan Trece and the Alijanian Lord Lao speak to one another in the Desert Language. He does hear Lord Lao speak in Heshbaan partially, something about the Red Bastion of Midrad.

Now Bryn knows that something larger is under discussion at this junction.
OOC:
Yo, Sneaker Team. I don't want to drive over player agency in this, so holding off from setting the team in motion. Let us know if more needs to be exchanged, more action, more agreement? Or is this team on the move in unity? Who leads? Who follows?

OOC:
Oh yeah, one more thing: there's also this...
Trece, Sizhen, and Bryn all hear it.

Footsteps.

Down the hall, from the last intersection that Bryn and Trece just past moments ago.

A ways off, but voices...
[ +- ] Heshbaan
Then silence.

The corridor intersection from which the voices are coming is 25' away. West.
Another turn in the corridor is 20' away. East.
Stairs going up, down which Sizhen just descended. North.

What do you do?

Send Stealth if you Move or Dash.

OOC:
It does seem like Ra u nak walked you guys out from the party limits. He passed a guard at least. But you are not terribly far away from the party. Kray would probably not be entirely sure the level of violation this might be perceived as by the authorities, nor if being with or without Ra u nak, the local and authorized service provider, would make a difference or not.

As for reconnecting with Bryn, Kray would realize that that would be a challenging task.

Kray does know that Bryn is going straight for a certain room that he thinks he knows. Some lower level, perhaps basement type room, but one with (he thinks) multiple chimneys. Kray knows generalities but not specifics. He also knows that Bryn faces a similar challenge. Bryn does not have any map of the Palace or exact confirmation on the target site either, but is instead launching out to see what is possible.

So to sum it up: it would be wandering around, looking for someone else wandering around. It's just that Bryn would necessarily be better at doing it undetected than the current group of three in the nap relax station. (Though it is not known there that Bryn is also part of a group of three now. And about to put their Stealth to a test. Ha!)

OOC:
To answer J's question, Sizhen's priorities are assessing what his two new companions are up to and what their motivations are, in addition to not getting caught. I think he would do this best by following their lead. I name dropped the Red Bastion to establish Sizhen is not just some random bystander curious about their affairs, hopefully you guys can work with that :)

Listening to the pair of men speaking desert speech Bryn sighs to himself and says to them in Heshbaan "If guards find us because you can’t keep quiet I will make sure to rip your tongue out myself." Not being sure how much was understood, Bryn collects himself and listens down the hallway hearing the muffled voices.

"Let’s go. Move quick" Bryn says ushering them forward and down toward the North.
OOC:
Will throw in a stealth roll to try and avoid contact with the unknown.

"Then again, finding Bryn here seems a daunting task. The place is massive." Kray reflected on the old tea man's words. "And I get the feeling that the palace is not the place to be wandering after dark, and not just because of the guards. Considering the poet and the strangeness in the Griffon room... and Ivor's prior state..." Kray sighed an exhalation of smoke, addressing Thorn. "Like the Borgh... reminds me of witchery."

Kray eased back in to the chair, watching smoke curl from his spliff for a moment. "The way I see it, we're guests of Ra u nak at this point. Maybe we wake him, ask his opinion on the poetry recital." At that, Kray nudges the old tea man, as much as needed to wake him.

Kray would try to milk Ra u nak for as much as he knows on the strangeness of the poetry jam.

What exactly is Bryn looking for here? Has to do with the lockbox, correct? Also looking for a way to access the Red Bastion?

As far as our three man group's options, we could look for Bryn, but that seems like a longshot not to mention the issues with our team keeping it stealth. Risk vs reward is unfavorable; getting caught snooping would be a bitch.

Some ideas: we can sleep it off here, or leave all casual like by walking through the previous areas and playing it cool (for some reason Ra u nak brought us this way, instead of just saying we should leave?). Not a huge fan of the hail mary to find Bryn and Co.

OOC:
Bryn is searching for the Key to the Small Irons Gate
DMJ says:
Bryn thinks he has a decent idea on this already. There is supposed to be an old strong box or hidden vault case where the Key is locked away, perhaps still in secrecy. This reference comes from a more recent writing (only about a century and a half ago), which makes it quite out of the ordinary. The scroll says that the box is hidden within the mortar of a hearth in the lower level of the Royal Palace of the Sar.

The box is of Halonian origin. Halon was an ancient high tech culture that disappeared abruptly around 8,000 years ago. Halonian artifacts are among the most mysterious in all history, because they predate even the other ancient cultures. Bryn may be just as motivated to seeing the Halonian box in fact. That in itself would be quite a discovery.

The box is said to have the emblem of a Phoenix carved into its front plate. It is also known to be trapped with ancient mechanisms and perhaps even magical hexes, as deterrents to thieves. Bryn spent most of last year trying to build the specialized tools that can supposedly be used to subdue Halonian technology.

In the lower chambers...

Bryn steps into the switchback stairwell, descending down. Trece and Sizhen follow. Without a sound, they glide downstairs and put some comfortable distance between themselves and the approaching hallway walkers that were heard.

The team of experts may not entirely trust one another, but there seems to be a delicate truce...for now.
OOC:
Daaang! This crew is as quiet as mice! Trece actually made NEGATIVE SOUND on his exit. Similar to noise canceling headphones I think. You know what - he was so quiet and stealthy, that the sound he did NOT cause made some OTHER SOUND ELSEWHERE more noticeable to the guards, and they switched directions and investigated that instead.

Bryn glances at Trece and gives him a respectful nod. He moves very well. Maybe we won’t get discovered by the Gilded Armsmen after all. Once out of earshot, Bryn asks Sizhen in Heshbaan "Have you ever been to the Red Bastion? How do you know of it?"

Kray knows now that something is amiss. He feels so heavy.
