You get no response, but see a large clawed foot print where he was standing in the path.
OOC:
Play it out how you normally would, but he had to drop the game.

"Oh my, perhaps we were a bit hasty in coming out before checking on the prevalence of predatory wildlife. We should leave and get help from the local authorities. These woods are simply not safe!"

"Skit oksa!" growls the foreigner. "Do you think there's bears out here!?"

Magnus toes around the forest floor for a stick or something to throw.

"Let's get back up to the road!"

Barry examines the footprint, trying to identify the beast that made it, and the ground around it to work out what out what happened – looking for indications that Larry was dragged away, or had run off under his own power, etc. He keeps a firm grip on his machete, and stays alert through his inspection.

Marv pulls his pistol, and points to the print with it. "Bear? That was a quiet bear. Larry could still be alive. We should go after him."
OOC:
If it makes more sense for the story to write Larry off, we can do that. If our investigation into Larry's disappearance will further the story, I'm all for doing that, too.

Barry looks at the print, but it looks like some mix of animals, bird? Lizard? Bear? It appears to be similar to all three.
OOC:
I will say, you won't find him yet, but no railroading from me! ;)

"Damn right we should!" Barry nods to Marv and plunges into the undergrowth, using his machete to clear a path.

Marv simply nods to the others before following Robago. He keeps his eyes open, looking around for any threats.

Howard follows, but pulls out the map to see which direction they are going, and to make sure they can find their way back.

The brush becomes thick with saplings and the way is getting muddy as you are heading into low ground. It appears you are the only one to have come through here.
Mar 8, 2018 2:57 am
Marv calls for a halt. "We're going the wrong way. Nothing has come through here before us." He pockets his pistol and scratches his head. "I think we should go back to the trail and figure out which direction Larry went. Or was dragged. Or, whatever happened to him."

"This is bullshit!" growls Dutch, slamming his stick down in the hard-packed clay with disgust.

"I bet you a pack of Camels, Larry's sitting in the Hudson, taking a nice nap. Forget him! Let's go back to the car."
Mar 9, 2018 3:58 am
Marv laughs at Magnus's comment. "Here's hoping, right?"
Mar 9, 2018 7:03 am
"Yeah, alright," Barry says, sounding unconvinced. "We're just chasing our tails out here."
Mar 9, 2018 11:33 pm
You double back, following your own trail and come back out at the cars, but no sign of Larry. You see the initial footprint from the beast and no others. It might have swooped down from the trees.

"If this is a joke, I'm not bloody laughing," says Barry. "Could-," he stumbles over the madness of the idea, feels silly as he blurts it out, "Could he have been taken by a bird? That footprint isn't dissimilar to a bird track, and it explains the single print, but... I mean, cassowaries will do a number on a bloke, but I've never heard of one killing somebody, and the bastards can't just fly off with a poor bugger, they don't fly at all... what the hell is going on here?"
Mar 10, 2018 4:38 pm
"Let's go back to the locals and get a search party to look for Larry, or at least a guide who can help us avoid more dangers."
Mar 11, 2018 5:39 am
Marv shakes his head. "That'll take a lot of time and who knows how much time he could have?" He thinks for a second then says, "No, if you want to go talk to the locals, go for it. I think I'm going to keep looking around."
Mar 13, 2018 3:19 am
"I don't think anyone should stay here by themselves, it's too dangerous," Barry says. "If you're staying, I'm staying too." He tucks the machete into his belt and loads his shotgun.
Mar 13, 2018 5:11 pm
"Ok, let's try again to look for clues to where Larry was taken."
