Marv grabs his mug by the handle, noting the warmth of the glass, and brings it up to his lips with a smile. After a couple swallows, he thumps the mug down with a contented sigh and looks to the bartender. "How are ya? Name's Marv."
Sep 17, 2018 1:19 am
"Names Rick, you just tripled my business so far, so not bad."
Sep 18, 2018 5:19 pm
Barry raises his glass in a toast. "Your continued good fortune, then," he says. "And yours as well, gents," he adds to Marv and to the other patrons, taking the opportunity to study them quickly. "I'm Barry, by the way."

Marv begins to buy drinks and talk to the bartender and the few patrons that are present, getting to know them a little and see what kind of gossip they like to spread. After awhile, he'll drop hints that he and the rest of his companions are there looking for the people who were working the dig and ask if anyone has any news or knowledge of their whereabouts or goings-on.
Oct 4, 2018 12:03 am
"That dig be cursed. Ya should leave what's buried alone. Ya stir up some bad things. Those Indians were evil for sure." The bartender says and then spits on the ground.
Oct 4, 2018 2:36 am
"Indians? Don't tell me you believe in Indian curses!" he exclaims with a laugh. "What does it matter if they were evil? They're dead!"
Oct 6, 2018 12:30 am
"Not all of them are dead. An old woman still lives from one of the neighboring tribes. She lives in the bog, keeps to herself. Not all dead things leave sir, be weary!"
Oct 8, 2018 3:21 am
Marv's smile falls a little, but only a little. His mind spins as the bar tender clues him in to the existence of someone who might know, probably does know, about the supposed curse. She'll also be clued in if there are any rogue bands of natives who are looking to get revenge on civilized folk for desecrating their land.

He raises his glass in a salute to the bar tender and says, "Consider me warned," then takes a sip from the glass and returns it to the table.
OOC:
It feels a little dirty, putting down the first nations people. This is all the character and not me.

OOC:
Don't worry just playing character and time period. No racism here either.

"You should talk to the old woman if you want more, but if I were you, I'd go home. If you are going, she loves these pickled eggs, only $2 for the jar if yer like em." The bartender says, silencing the crickets.
Oct 23, 2018 11:10 pm
A man walks into the bar....
OOC:
PeasofCrab introduce Ari Fishman
Oct 23, 2018 11:12 pm
You also notice, Prof. Howard Mellon is no longer in the bar.
OOC:
Will try and pick up a few more.

The man who walks in would be easily mistaken for your next door Average Joe if it weren't for his antiquated cop's uniform and the billy club at his hip which slaps him in his thighs as he strides in. His plain looks, average frame, and easy manner cut the opposite of an imposing figure as he flashes a smile, first at Rick, then the room. He takes a seat at a table by the door, facing the new guests to town, and orders a draft.

After taking a few moments to get a good few looks at the pair, who seem a bit lonely for what people were reporting as a "crowd" of strangers coming into town, he waves them over in a warm invitation.

"'Ey there. Name's Ari Fishman. Feel free to call me Ari. How're you doin' this fine evenin', Misters...?" he trails off in an imploring manner.
Oct 24, 2018 10:59 pm
Marv slowly takes two dollars out of his wallet, pointedly ignoring the new man. He pays for the jar of eggs and pulls it toward him, holding it in the crook of his elbow.

He slowly turns toward Ari, a small smile resting on his face. "Are you what passes for the local coppers?" he asks in a quiet voice. "I'm not that impressed."
OOC:
I'm son of a gangster, so I'm not going to immediately warm up to someone who looks like a cop. But, I'm not trying to drive Ari away. Let me know if Marv's antagonism is too much at any point.
Oct 25, 2018 4:40 am
OOC:
No prob, Bob.
Ari's eyes flicker as he processes the young man's words but he doesn't frown or anything, like that. With a smile that looks a bit forced, he replies, "Well, I'm the local copper. That's me, Sheriff Ari Fishman. Sorry for not bein' a big scary-lookin' fella like I'm sure you probably get in the cities but that's just how it is 'round here. Talkin' 'bout impressions, though, you boys have made quite a few. We rarely get any strangers and the last couple were those queer university folks that were checkin' out that dig. Given the concerned calls, I figured I ought to come in and introduce myself. So, let's start over, why don't we? I'm Ari Fishman, what passes for local coppers. What's your name?"
OOC:
So, lunitar, what does Ari actually know about the situation here?
Oct 26, 2018 11:37 am
"Whoa, steady on," Barry says to Marv. "The bloke's just doing his job." To Ari, butting in: "I'm sorry, we've had a bit of a rough day. My name's Barry. We're from the university too – sent down to check on the expedition, make sure they're not causing any bother, you know."
Oct 27, 2018 1:08 am
Marv smiles over at Barry, then turns to offer Ari his hand. "Yeah, rough day. Name's Marv Coletti." His smile looks more than a little forced.
Oct 27, 2018 5:36 pm
Ari had been called for the strange events happening at the dig site, but was trumped by the state cops and they took over the investigation. The university people were well mannered and paid the local establishments well, up until the accidents started happening. He doesn't know much about where everyone went as he was to forward all concerns on.
Oct 28, 2018 5:18 am
"Well, that's alright, then. "

Ari's smile widens, with more sincerity this time, in spite of Marv's clear wariness.

"Nice to hear they've sent some people to take care of business. People 'round here been a bit on edge ever since the accidents kept comin'... Misfortune spreading and all that. But say, folks were tellin' me there were two cars what came in, some passengers each. They your friends or am I gonna have to find a whole 'nother group to introduce myself to?"
Oct 28, 2018 5:04 pm
Marv smiles, a little more genuine now that cars were introduced to the conversation. "Nah, that's us."
