This was the box found, but dropped and forgotten when Marv fell in the hole on your last visit. It had letters and a book inside it.

Marv leans down to pick up the box and begins to rifle through the letters and books. "Hey! I found something," he says to the others and starts to see what the contents of the box say. "There are some letters and, hopefully these are journals."

Barry remembers dropping that box now.
The letters appear to be correspondences with crew members family and friends. Some saying normal daily routines and small talk, but the more recent ones speak of worrying and fear of the area and things happening, like accidents.
The book does appear to be a journal.

Marv reads the journal page before handing it off to whoever wants to take a look at it next.
"Well, looks like the professor is completely nuts," he says, his voice despondent. "Part of me hopes that he died in the water, but that last entry there makes me think he's gone back to town."
After letting the others read the page, he says, "What do you all think?"

"I agree mate, it sounds like he was completely crazy. 'Down the river path I must go,' it says. Is there a river, or river bed around these parts? That might be a clue to where he's gone," Barry says.

Marv nods to Barry, his eyes lighting up and he turns and hurries down toward the river. "Down this way!" he calls back to the others.
As he gets down there, he begins to look around, almost frantically, for some clue, some sign, something to help resolve the mystery.

The sides of the bank are worn, what could almost be a path, but the rains have washed away any trace of prints. The hose sticks out here from the pump.

As you travel along the path, the mud gives way to stones and a rough path along the water. The land starts to gradually incline and you come to a rock wall and a pool of water with a waterfall running into it. The water churns and bubbles from the water. Stones line either side of the pool and seem to go behind the waterfall, but get slick.

Marv takes off his shoes and coat and tries to make his way behind the waterfall.

As Marv climbs onto the rocks, the water seems to settle a little bit and looks even a little peaceful.

Marv easily glides behind the waterfall and disappears. As soon as he does, the water starts churning again.
