Scene 1 - The Ruk Disaster

Jan 14, 2018 4:05 pm
Ruk, you can't believe that you're in Ruk. What a craphole. And that weasley methhead Culkin... sure, he got you here, leading the translation since none of your team had been here before, but then he stays back at camp "Protecting the way home!" What a duchebag.

You made your way out of the translation spot, an abandoned bodega-analog named "Exotic Fine Meats" that has been taken over by Fischer Astrotech. The building's windows are papered over, purportedly 'under renovation' and you snag a set of keys for the door. "Dr." Culkin showed you a map of Harmonious City (population about a 100k), and then drew a copy of it quickly, indicating how to get to the Shadowed City. Apparently, Harmonious City floats by some kind of anti-gravity power, and the Shadowed City is the crappy part underneath. Of course you have to go to the crappiest part.

https://pre00.deviantart.net/4d8e/th/pre/f/2014/252/8/a/a_location_on_ruk__by_cloister-d7yj3mu.jpg

Culkin tells you that a deepcover agent for the Quiet Cabal (an Ruk-ish organization seeking to preserve Earth) has reached out to Fischer Astrotech that Karum (an Ruk-ish organization seeking to destroy Earth) has a new weapon. They are excited about this new weapon. They think that it will make a difference. That is bad. The agent has requested that you grab this weapon and take it to Earth, because if the Quiet Cabal comes in needlers blazing, his cover will probably be blown. Now normally translating back to Earth would just mean that the weapon would be stored in Abeyance until you return to Ruk (no bad thing there), but the rumour is that the weapon will translate intact. In short: A terrible high-tech weapon that can get to Earth intact and the nihilist cult is giddy about doing just that.

Your mission: Travel to the Karum safe-house in Shadowed City, meet up with your contact, codename Agent Sly, and obtain the weapon (this part is suspiciously vague - best wear your brown pants); then, return to Exotic Fine Meats and translate back to Casablanca where Fischer Astrotech will take possession of the weapon.

You took a public elevator down to the ground. You see people, all human but some with weird alterations, like facial implants or biologic wings grafted on. It's really creepy, and as the elevator drops out of the light into the Shadowed City, your hackles rise. There is a fair bit of traffic up and down, as the Shadowed City is home to a bunch of manufacturing and what not.

You've made your way through the rough streets - you might complain about the roughness of the streets, but after exploring the seedier sides of Casablanca, you're not all out of your element. The locals eye you suspiciously, but they eye each other the same way. You fit right in, your clothing and gear that appeared on translation (the gear you had when you left Earth is in something called Abeyance, which is like some kind of cosmic coat check) is typical for Ruk; sturdy polymer fabrics in greens, greys, blues, browns, blacks.

Only a few blocks from the Karum safe-house, you've been trapped in a garage for the past few minutes, as a horrific glial storm moved through the area. Bioelectricity rockets through the area, so you took cover to avoid the deadly electricity as well as the random thoughts and images that seem to accompany it. Even on the edge, alien horrors flicker at the edge of your consciousness.

THREAD IS NOW UNLOCKED. Let's start off with descriptions and banter between your characters as you wait for the glial abate. Your gear and weapons are the same (stat-wise) in Ruk, although their appearance and function may now be more high tech.

Micah stands by the door, looking out at the ferocity of the outside storm. The flashes of electric discharge illuminate the half-shadow he stands in, making his body lighten, then darken again to try to match the light that surrounds him. His eyes are narrow in thought as he watches the chaos of the storm. "Beautiful..." he murmurs to himself.

He starts, looking somewhat embarrassed as he glances around the garage at the others. "Pretty intense, isn't it?" he says.

His normally blue eyes have toned down to a stormy gray but his smile is as bright as ever.

Vinny barely hears Micah. He stares at his reflection in a particularly shiny terminal screen and responds distractedly, Yeah, bro. I am swole as fuck! The normally hulking man seems even larger now. He flexes and admires himself. Quills of iridescent blue and green fiber optics highlight his spiked hair.

He lifts his mace and gives a couple of practice swings as though it were a baseball bat. Yeah, this'll work. I was kinda hoping to get a 'light-saver' any of you'z guys get one?

"This place is as busy as a stump-tailed bull in fly season." Duke mutters his voice slightly digitized one hand on his waist watching the skies above and watches the crowd to see their reaction as well. He glances around the garage they're in to see if they're interrupting daily business.

Micah laughs at L0nestaR's comment, shaking his head. "Always the funny one," he says.
OOC:
I've decided that L0nestaR is the one that Micah is entertained by.
He looks back out of the door, watching the storm. "Hey, how long do these things usually last, anyway?" He rubs his nose with the back of one hand. "I'm getting bored."

He glances back at Vinny and raises his voice, trying to break through the other's vanity. "Hey, Vinny, what are you watching on that screen over there? Anything good?" By his tone, it's obvious he's trying to tease his team-mate.

Vinny flexes some more as he turns, I'm checking out the gun show, bro! He holds the pose for a second before smiling and coming back over to the group.

"Reckon it'll be done when it's done. That's what ornery things do." comments before Vinny comes back, "Showing is nice and all but I'm more about the telling when the time comes." Duke states slapping his side before looking down to search for his holster.

"Where in darnation is my-" he mutters patting his sides before his upper leg armor shifts and the top of a holster shifts up from underneath with a click. He removes a blaster and inspects it checking the sights without pointing it at people and examines it for a second before putting it back in place. "Well that's different."

Vinny walks up excitedly, Hell yeah, that's some Robocop shit! He walks to the edge of the garage and looks out. I dunno, bro. I was in that nor'easter a couple years back. Can't be much worse than that. He reaches his hand out to feel the rain.

Seth sits quietly in the corner of the room, apart from the others. He has been quiet since they entered the temporary shelter, studying his body and taking notes, looking over the changes the translation has caused in his body and gear. He was wearing normal street clothes, but has translated wearing loose robes with integrated armor plates, and his skin has taken on a sheen reminiscent of a salamander's, with occasional spots of different iridescent colors, most no larger than a dime.

Inspecting his other gear, his pocket knife has become a long dangerous-looking blade that seems weighted for throwing. The other supplies seem changed, but analogous to what he had translated with.

Inspection complete, he walks to the door with the others. He looks out at the storm, and tilts his head quizzically, furrowing his brow in thought.

"Fascinating weather patterns, especially since we are given to understand that this type of storm is common to this...place. I wonder what triggers it, perhaps a build-up of charged particles in the atmosphere, or some kind of airborne algae that becomes charged with and must then expel their excess energy? I would love to take some time to study this. Maybe we can come back with a research team..." he says, speaking rapidly.

"Well if this is really that common then there's some smart fellas who probably thought to join buildings maybe so you can still get around without getting fried like a possum in a bug zapper." Duke offers up.
Jan 18, 2018 4:08 pm
Vinny shudders as the electrical discharges wash over his hand. Stunned momentarily, he jerks rigid stumbling away. His eyes tease blue but his vision is clearly inward. After a few seconds, he recovers.

Duke smiles behind his face mask, "Possum in a zapper..." he declares shaking his head. He snaps his fingers off to the side of Vinny's head to see if he can focus eventually when he's back.

"I would NOT have recommended that, but thank you for volunteering yourself as a test subject. Remind me when we return to examine your electrolyte profile, I should have a baseline on you somewhere..." Seth says, looking at Vinny's hand.
Jan 18, 2018 7:39 pm
Vinny slowly starts to regain his faculties before jerking up suddenly again, fists up about to strike an imaginary opponent, before he realizes where he is again. His smile returns, Yo! That shit was crazy! It was like a bad acid trip. Shit was eating the sky and everything tastes like some bad Baccala.

Shortly thereafter, the glial storm passes. The impromptu cover you found suddenly seems decidedly less appealing. Taking your bearings, you leave the garage and continue along the described route, and soon end up near the designated spot, an outdoor fountain that looks to have been abandoned mid-construction. Several single floor buildings of rough manufacture surround the area. You see a woman in the fountain area, standing among the pillars of a roofless gazebo. She appears to be smoking.

As you appear in sight, she puts the cigarette out against a gazebo-pillar, and becomes you toward her. She steps backward, out of sight.

OOC:
The notes flying around are hidden from me and I'm getting a little disoriented when they're referenced in text I can see. Are notes really necessary? Are there things that need to be hidden from me/us/others as a player?
Micah glances around the area, scanning for people. He's used to being the center of attention so his current state of being is a little different than he's used to. His body seems to fade in and out as he moves, trying to conform to his surroundings.

Seeing the woman beckon, he waves back and smiles. Speaking from the side of his mouth to the others, he asks, "So... she must be our contact. I guess I'll go say 'Hi'." He moves over to the fountain, his footsteps quiet.

"Hi, how are ya?" he asks, giving the woman one of his charming smiles.

OOC:
Not all information is beneficial for other players to see or it might be private like a card they play against their chest, maybe he saw his own death or one of ours? I have no idea. Via another game just because the crazy guy in the group saw something doesn't mean him explaining it doesn't have a filter on it so it. Mine were related to asking if I needed to pick my Ruk foci for when we translate here.
Duke follows and stays silent in a city like this the area is a great place for a setup. His hand moves to his side as he follows Mullron and goes on overwatch.
