Beginning of Urban Mystic

The three of you find yourself in the Base district for reasons that are your own. There is chaos in the air as various police forces find themselves rushing to the center of the district. Emergency sirens wail, a helicopter is overhead, and there are snippets of information that you gather. "Blood everywhere" "Somewhere between 10 and 20" "How could this have happened?"
This is not a normal occurrence in De Sombra as whole, but is completely unheard of in the Base, where all of De Sombra's law enforcement is generally concentrated.
OOC:
Let me know, if you could, what your character wants to do given this scene. Do your characters know each other, do they meet on the street, do they go towards or away from the chaos?
Mar 28, 2018 7:41 pm
A small, pudgy man with caramel-colored skin and a floppy, red hat darts around the scene trying to get a vantage point. Occasionally, he just kind of appears a top a police car or a street light. Occasionally, he sniffs at the air before moving on. He holds a crumpled up photograph in his hand.
OOC:
Nukux will try to invoke the Reading Boon at PL5 to get a sense of what happened here.

Ah, hum, good question... Let's see, we have a fame-seeking jack-of-all-trades, a redcap private eye, and a witch who makes her living removing curses...

Perhaps the private investigator knows of the witch because a client sought for a way to remove a curse?

My character tends to pick up all sort of odd jobs, so I could have ran into any of the other players at any time, really...

Yeah, I think we've all kind of run in similar circles and know each other

Jack looks at the crowd of onlooker gathering around the crime scene, being held back by the police officers. He sighs and shakes his head.

"Tsh, death, the cheapest show in Los Angeles De Sombra..."

He then notices a familiar red cap hovering lower than the average spectator's head...

"Hmm, maybe a new job? Eh, why not..."

Jak makes his way towards the familiar sight, not really bothering to ask people aside as he pushes his way through the crowd. Eventually he reaches the gnome private eye who seems to be concentrating, but also looks a bit frustrated...

"Hey there short stop, got anything good?

Shani stepped out of Councilman Price's office and headed for the door. 'This is the last time you work on a private case for a politician.' She scolded herself. The councilman had seemed nice enough at first, but once the work was complete it had been a real pain in the ass to get paid. Shani had spent three days stalking him, finally pinning him down in his private offices and threatening to hex him to Hades and back if he didn't fork over her fee. He objected to paying full price since his formerly cursed merchandise was no longer in peak condition, but Shani had warned him it might happen. There was even a clause in her standard contract, that the councilman had signed, absolving her of such damages.

The councilman had bought a watch that reportedly belonged to a notorious gangster, Coleman Petty. The watch was something of a signature accessory for Petty and must have had some significant sentimental value to the thug because he paid to have a wasting curse put on it. Likely, Petty intended to be buried with the watch and planned to punish whoever took it after his death. Whoever took it though was either smart enough to not put it on, or only interested in the potential monetary value of the piece. They sold it to Councilman Price, making a good profit Shani would guess, and only dumb luck had stopped Price from putting the watch on. Things started fine, but then the spell transformed into a burning spell and had nearly caught Shani's whole building on fire. The watch was fused shut and didn't tick anymore, but it was still recognizable as having belonged to Petty.

The Councilman ended up paying just as he had agreed but not without raising a stink about it, then suggesting Shani could make a little more money if she wanted. Shani had nearly decked him, but limited herself to twisting his arm nearly out of socket and beating a hasty retreat with her check.

As her feet reached the street she prepared to fly over to the bank to deposit her fee before her rent check bounced, but the the commotion and snippets of radio chatter were to much to ignore. She angled her broom the other way and followed the patrol car headed to the scene. She alighted next to a familiar pair of faces and waited to get the low-down. If nothing else this would make for great gossip at the diner.

"Nuk...Jack...we know anything yet?"

Everyone can see various law enforcement officials moving bodies into a stack so that it's no longer blocking the main intersection that it had been occupying. The bloodstains on the street seem to have left some sort of design that it's hard to see at this vantage point.

Jack acknowledges the newcomer with a side glance before looking at the scene again, another familiar face. Looks like when death is about, the freaks come out to play...

"Hey Jinx, nah, I just got here, but short stop here was here first, look like he was trying to use some power or something... Didn't seem to have worked judging by the look on his face..."

If jack is close enough, he'll try to have a general look of the scene, like are there bullet holes, or scorched marks from a bombing? If not, he might suspect something supernatural instead.
OOC:
So, if I got this straight, since my Perception is 0, my Well-rounded feat should give me Advantage 1 on the check, right? It's going to be either a 10 or a 17 depending on how well I understood the rules...

Rolls

Perception, advantage 1 - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (10) = 10

1d20 : (17) = 17

You understood correct you made that roll with advantage 1, meaning the roll is a 17
Crimson Jack makes his way right up to the scene as no one makes an effort to prevent your approach as no one seems to be trying to keep an eye on the scene. The blood seemed to have pooled into a rough circle with a jagged line in the middle. One third through the line it changes direction at a point where a circle of blood pooled. There's no damage to any roads or buildings, no sign of flames, without the death and blood the scene would look pretty calm. You do notice some magic in the air, but it doesn't seem to be a violent type of magic, more of an illusion of sorts, as you try to focus on it to try to identify it the thoughts you have seem to jumble and be harder to grasp. Looking at the bodies you notice the wounds for all of the bodies come are at their torso with the blood seeping from their white shirts. One body in particular seems to have been stuck in a fetal position whereas the rest are stuck laying flat. The body in the fetal position has more blood on it's shirt than the rest, making it's shirt look more like a uniform red than white with a bloodstain.

Shani rolls her eyes at Jack's nickname for her. "I don't like the looks of that blood. I mean, aside form the fact it should be inside those people and not on the street." Glancing around, the witch mounts her broom and lifts into the air to change her point of view.

'Is it, some kind of spell I wonder.' Shani ponders trying to keep her mind focused on the symbols of blood. 'What could have done this? Despite the overall mess, it seems almost clean and meticulously planned.'
OOC:
Should I make a roll? Will maybe to see through the "illusion" or Learning to figure out what she is looking at?
Mar 29, 2018 12:50 am
OOC:
Yeah, I was wondering what attribute would work for dealing with illusion magic...
As he notices Shani rise above the crowd on her broom, he calls to her as well as shake Nukux out of his concentration.

"Hey guys, look at that pool of blood over there and tell me this isn't a clock showing 11:30."
OOC:
What time is it in game time?

Ah you caught me before I could post the symbol left behind, I don't know if that changes the action you want to take. If you still want to fly and make a check you can, however, in this game one of the rules is to make every roll count so to not repeat other people's actions. In you're case you're doing something different so we don't have to worry about it. Since you're using your flying feat I believe you can't use another feat at the same time, though I'm going to check into that, so it would be normal perception, so you'd probably get a similar result to Jack at that point though.

In game we're looking at about 4 in the afternoon.
Mar 29, 2018 1:39 am
Nukux's high-pitched, froggy voice sounds saddened Not good... No, no...many dead...can't see what happened before 11:30. Don't know how bodies got there. He shakes his head and holds his hat in his hand as he makes the sign of the cross.
Mar 29, 2018 1:56 am
"Wait, what was that short stop? I though we have about another 7 hours and a half to figure things out, but you say this happened at around 11:30 AM?"

Jack thinks quickly, he approaches the yellow tape and tries to talk to an officer, holding his smartphone as if it were some sort of recording device.

"Officer, officer, Bill Posting here for the Daily Nurgle."

Jack quickly flashes a card from his wallet, not really letting the officer have a good look at it.

"Can you tell us more about those bodies, does the LADSPD knows what is going on here?"
OOC:
Gonna be rolling Deception with advantage 1 thanks to Well-Rounded. Damn, those rolls are on fire!

Deception, advantage 1. - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (17) = 17

Hey man you know what I know, 15 dead bodies. It doesn't look like natural causes. People said a haze came through and the bodies appeared. Real weird.

At this an urchin comes up to you guys. The child looks to be about 7 years old and would have not been noticed had he not approached you first. His clothes at first look seemed decrepit but once his was close to you they seemed in good repair and shockingly clean. Despite probably being older than the kid and having more patches than original material everything seemed to be done with high skill and quality materials.
Excuse me Gentmen these are for you and the flying lady.
He hands you three envelopes with a symbol on the front. As you look at the envelopes the urchin disappears into the crowd. They all appear exactly the same with no way to distinguish any of them belonging to a specific one of you.

Shani returns to the ground and regards the envelopes. "Nothing different to be seen up there. What do you think those are all about?" She does not reach out to take her own. "Feel free to open mine."
OOC:
No problem about the cross posting, it happens. I'm fine with the outcome, I just wasn't sure if there was more to learn from above. Were we here to see where the bodies were originally? Like...were they placed at the hours specifically? The other three being the hands and the center of the clock maybe?

Correct all the bodies were laid down in a circle to be the face of the.

Sorry, I misread my note. It should just say before the bodies appeared not 11:30. I'll update later today at lunch
