ANDER & CANTHUS: Ander fires at Skeetz and yet his arrow still finds the mark, stabbing into his leg (8 damage). In a few heartbeats, the Night Blade that Ryvid has doubled over (C) is surprised with Canthus's snarling maw in his face! He screams in horror as the wolf bites into his flesh (9 damage)

PAGEFLAP: Three glowing darts of magical force emerge from Pageflap's staff. Without fail, each one strikes the Night Blade screaming in the fire pit. Afterward, his body lies dead in the fire, his screams forever silent.

Nice job! First kill :)

Sulprax puts an end to Skeetz with his white-hot sword. He dies with a terrified look on his face, but whether that fear is from the Dragonborn above him or from his contemplation of his immortal soul, who can say?

OOC:
How do we want to deal with beast companion dying Naat? RAW, you go find another wolf, but I like the idea of a consistent animal companion. We can reflavour things. For example, Drizzt Do'urden's panther returns to the Astral Realm when it gets hurt, and comes back when healed up (or something - I haven't read those for decades). Or, we could give Canthus death saving throws which wouldn't be a stretch at all. I'm open to other ideas too.
Apr 5, 2018 10:47 pm
OOC:
I'm also a fan of a consistent companion, so I'd rather he be alive as long as Ander is.

I'd say either death saves or just hand-waving it away.

I'd just grab another wolf after eight hours anyway. Maybe he can just be unconscious for eight hours or until healed by magic? Same effect as RAW basically, right?

OOC:
Carrying around an unconscious wolf might be hard, especially for a Halfling. Maybe we can bake the solution into your magic weapon? A Spiritwarren Bow that can hold your animal companion's spirit for eight hours, after which it enables you to resurrect it? While the spirit is contained within the weapon, perhaps the bow has the wolf's DC 11 knock-down effect and advantage on perception checks that involve smell. I'd also be okay if you ever want to bring Canthus back as a giant crab or flying snake of whatever, if you're interested in exploring the class's options.

Ander growls as Canthus is struck once and then again, sending his companion to the ground, where he turns into smoke and is drawn into Ander's bow. "You bastards!" he shouts and fires another arrow at the Night Blade that killed his friend.

OOC:
So, my thoughts are one of two things:

1. Like Drizzt's companion, the wolf turns to mist immediately upon dead and its spirit is drawn into the bow
2. Ander has to touch the bow to the wolf in order to draw the spirit in

Which do you prefer, DM, if either?

Sulprax steps up onto the wagon, turns upon skeetz's friend at the front and stabs down with Tatsumasa, aiming at the throat.

Do you think we should take one alive Pageflap?

Ryvid draws another bullet and places it on his chest 'Deliver them from evil and guide my hand if you believe they deserve as such.' He places it in the pouch and launches it forward.

Ander's bow fails to find its mark, slamming into a barrel of ale. However, it shatters the taught, metal barrel ring, which springs up and slashes the man across the face. (10 damage as per the Lucky trait - which I realize means you pretty much cannot miss these guys!) He spits out a broken tooth and looks like he's going to run.

The Night Blade that struck Sulprax felt pretty good about getting a hit on the big lizard, but seeing the dragon man not even wince fills him with dread. He tries to block the big sword swing as it crashes down on him, and although it nearly breaks his arms to do it (12 damage), he holds off the searing blade. His sigh of relief is the last moment of his life; he will never know that Ryvid's bullet extinguished his flame (17 damage).
OOC:
Pageflap is up :) The final Night Blade has taken 24 damage.
Apr 6, 2018 3:25 pm
"Let us hear what this so-called Nightlord holds in store for us!" Pageflap says in Kit's voice, closing the distance so he's 20ft away before throwing his dagger at the bandit, taking care not to aim at anything vital.

Rolls

Dagger throw (finesse) - (1d20+5)

(15) + 5 = 20

If hit (piercing) - (1d4+3)

(4) + 3 = 7

I updated my last post to show that the wolf turned to smoke and was drawn into Ander's bow. I am going to have that take a bonus action to activate to account for the convenience of not being required to actually touch the animal

Pageflap's dagger slams into the last Night Blade's shoulder. He loses his cool and makes a break for it over the opposite bank.
OOC:
Opportunity Attack for Sulprax: make a regular melee attack with your sword. He's at 1 hp, so any amount of damage will take him down. Feel free to call it non-lethal.

@Naat, sounds good. I love designing things in collaboration, always ends up better than what I would have made on my own.

"If I may offer, we have a compromisssed barrel of wine that it would be unconssssccccionable to let go to wasssste. Perhapsssss we should imbibe asss we asssk our questionssss?"

As he talks to his companions he nonchalantly uses the broadside of his sword like a flyswatter on the escaping Night blade.
OOC:
Maybe a bit too nonchalantly

The Night Blade deftly dodges Sulprax's half-hearted strike. Thinking he's in the clear he let's out a little cry of joy and turns to run down the opposite bank.

And runs head-first into a tree, knocking him out.
OOC:
Dice are uncooperative sometimes. Combat is over! Good job.
