@Fah'lin: You move a short distance away from Rolana and cadt your spell. Nothing registers. When you approach her and get within three feet, your spell stops working. You conclude that this must be magical maybe the crystal has some kind of ant-magic property? That seems to ge the most logical conclusion.

I wonder... Shifting the heavy crystal to her left hand, Rolana draws the empty-looking hilt of her sunblade, to test whether the magic-suppressing properties will prevent the blade of sunlight from materializing.
Apr 28, 2018 3:36 am
The blade doesn't come out at all and it feels like a regular longsword hilt.

OOC:
I think the sword is just a hilt if the sunblade doesn't materialize.
Well, taking the crystal with us is going to be a problem. Rolana looks at Fah'lin. I hate leaving it behind - it's a pretty dangerous object in the wrong hands. I suppose I could keep it on my horse and only use my own magical items when I dismount. If everyone keeps a three-foot distance from my horse, the rest of the party should be unaffected.

What would happen if we were to place it in a bag of holding? Likewise, would the mages at our target want to inspect it?
Apr 28, 2018 5:07 pm
Bags of holding are magical items. I doubt that the pocket dimension is accessible when the bag is within three feet of the antimagic field.

To test this theory, Rolana reaches into her own bag of holding, intending to extract the hunting trap stored within.

"If you want, I can carry. I still very dangerous even with no magic."
Apr 28, 2018 7:28 pm
That's probably a better idea, Champion, especially if this bag of holding theory of mine proves true.

"That probably is the best course Kuz. If we decide to keep it with us, it may be a boon. I have two more things I'd like to test before we continue. First, Rolana, place the crystal on the ground and back away." Once she has done so, "Now make sure your magic still works, if you please." After that is done, Fah'lin steps forward and picks up the crystal. Turning away from the group she attempts to cast Prestidigitation to create a spark and small cloud of smoke.
OOC:
Trying to make sure that the crystal isn't destroying magical items, and to see if a caster holding the thing can still do their job.

While the rest of the group investigates the carcass and crystal, Tinwë follows Ryestro. Fighting a dumb beast is one thing, but how can I go into true battle alongside this man? I must know more about him. She whistles a nonchalant tune, once again working in her spell of mind-reading.

Detect Thoughts, trying to see what's on Ryestro's mind.

@Rolana: you reach into your bag of holding and say the name of the trap. Nothing happens. It feels like a regular bag.

@Fahlin: You take the crystal from Rolana and move away from her. Rolana says the name of the hunting trap, reaches into her bag of holding and withdraws a hunting trap. The bag of holding seems to be functioning normally. Then you try to cast a basic spell. Nothing happens.
OOC:
@Everyone investigating the crystal: should you with to study this item in a more academic sense then you may. It requires one hour of time and you may roll either arcana, nature, history or religion. If something applies to the item and your roll is high enough, I will let you know the results :)

While Rolana cuts out the crystal, Oma puts her portable hole on the ground and climbs in, calling to Aetoris to make some hot water, which he of course does, the helpful man. She rummages around for minutes, mumbling to herself and getting small amounts of herbs, spices and flowers, putting different things in the 6 cups she has ready. She takes the cups out of the hole and pours the hot water in them, smiling and nodding happily at the choices she made. She hands the cups around, explaining what she put in them.
For Kuz, a refreshing blend of mint, pepper and coffee to give it a good kick!
For Pyrrha, fennel and camomile, it's what I like after a long day of travel.
Fah-lin, something more serene, I had some dried lotus petals.
For you, Aetoris, the usual darling, I still think it's boring to have "just thyme", but boring apparently suits you.
And for you, hard working lady, something special. A warming mix of ginger, clove, cinnamon and cardamom.
She puts the cup a bit away from Rolana so she won't accidentally knock it over. When she turns and walks back to her own cup those with good ears and paying attention can hear her mumble. Plenty of babies conceived after drinking that tea!
Oma drinks her own tea, two tiny mushrooms floating in the water, Aetoris knowing those aren't her very special mushrooms. When Rolana is almost done getting the crystal out she puts away the empty cups and kettle and folds the hole back into its handkerchief size. She stays away from the crystal, not liking the idea of being without magical powers. She even takes a unnecessary extra step back when Rolana suggests the party staying three feet away from it.
Oh my, this does answer some of our questions and it scares me more and more every second! What if they put crystals like this all through the city?! I will be useless! Should we warn the others? Why haven't they come back? She looks in the direction the others took off in and frowns, unhappy to not see an indication they're returning.

Holding the crystal out to whoever wishes to take it Fah'lin says, "It seems I will be of no use in this endeavor than my natural assets can carry me. Let us hope there is another lecherous old man playing an intregal part to this story so I can do more than be dead weight."

Kuz take for now. If too dangerous, I smash crystal with big rock. Or maybe Kuz throw at ennemy mage.

Let's not make too many assumptions in the absence of some more in-depth investigation. Rolana looks around the circle of those party members still around. Those of you who are spellcasters - maybe you could spend some time applying your knowledge of the arcane - and even other fields - to the study of this crystal? I know time is of the essence, but if we don't do what we can to understand what we are up against, we are sure to fail just as those the king sent before us. Goodness, it's gotten warm out here.

As she continues speaking, she removes her cloak and loosens the button of her shirt collar, then begins to undo the fastenings of her glamour studded armor. I would like to be armed with as much knowledge of this crystal as possible before we ride for Southwatch.

Tossing the armor to the ground and stretching languidly, Rolana says, It shouldn't take up too much time, and Kuz and I can easily keep an eye out for trouble while the rest of you concentrate on the crystal. Placing a hand on Aetoris' arm, she continues, I know you're not a spellcaster, Aety, but you have... you're a... My, have you been working out? Looking a bit shocked at herself, she stops running her hand up his arm and over his shoulder and yanks it away. She takes a step away from him and composes herself. As a scout, you have knowledge of nature. That's what I was getting at. You know lots of things. About nature. Maybe you could detect something about the crystal with your vast... Realizing that her eyes have somehow drifted downward while looking at Aetoris, she brings them up abruptly. ... your vast knowledge of the natural world.

She turns away from him, and with what seems like a forced briskness, says, Are we in agreement that this is how best to proceed? Moving to her mount, she busies herself with the horse's pack and only very occasionally tosses what seem like involuntary glances back at Aetoris.
Apr 29, 2018 7:07 pm
"Kuz agrees, but only for short rest. We need move fast. Can somebody warn others we stay here longer?"
If everybody agrees, Kuz will take care of bringing the horses nearer the group, then find a calm place where he will sit crosslegged on the ground and close his eyes while holding an oversized bearclaw that was hanging around his neck.

Watching Rolana's behaviour Oma Salie's eyes grow big and she slaps her hands in front of her mouth, trying to stifle her laughter. A few loud snorts and squeaks come out anyway. When Rolana walks to her horse she nudges Aetoris's hip. Remind me -ha!- remind me your girl is a lightweight! She wipes the tears from her eyes and looks at the crystal on Kuz's hands. I do agree with our hot companion though. It has no lasting effects so I'll take a look at it if you agree. We can catch up with the others whenever they decide to stop and wait, I'm not in a hurry. Besides, it might take a few minutes before she cooks off. Unless... She raises an eyebrow at Aetoris and giggles again.
OOC:
I'm rolling, but if the others don't want to do this but go immediately instead just ignore it:-)

Let's please not ignore this...?

Pyrrha gives the old gnome a curt nod and a quick word of thanks as she is handed the tea. The dainty cup is more than a little out of place in the wilderness next to the gigantic corpse. Nevertheless, she takes a few sips and smiles at the pleasant taste. Feeling revitalised, she watches on and listens intently as the others discuss the puzzling lump of crystal. At Fah'lin's insinuation of her non-magical skills, Pyrrha tries not to spew a mouthful of tea, and gives her cousin a poke with the end of her staff. With the other spellcasters, she kneels over the crystal and attempts to some useful morsel about its origin.
