Addressing the rest of the group, Rolana says, since we're preparing for sleep, we may as well decide on watches. I suggest two people per shift, since we have the manpower and we're in such open space. Those with darkvision, like myself, should take the watches during the darkest hours, naturally. Volunteers for shifts?

It's worth trying, if anyone has any lead to use.

"I am ambivalent to which shift I take, and darkness, magical or otherwise, is no deterrent for me."

What are these 'targets' he is thinking of? Who is this man, really? Tinwë nudges a little deeper into Ryestro's mind. The masked man likely notices, but Tinwë is determined to pierce his shroud of mystery.
[ +- ] Detect Thoughts
For the duration, you can read the thoughts of certain creatures. When you cast the spell and as your action on each turn until the spell ends, you can focus your mind on any one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. If the creature you choose has an Intelligence of 3 or lower or doesn't speak any language, the creature is unaffected.
You initially learn the surface thoughts of the creature - what is most on its mind in that moment. As an action, you can either shift your attention to another creature's thoughts or attempt to probe deeper into the same creature's mind. If you probe deeper, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. If it fails, you gain insight into its reasoning (if any), its emotional state, and something that looms large in its mind (such as something it worries over, loves, or hates). If it succeeds, the spell ends. Either way, the target knows that you are probing into its mind, and unless you shift your attention to another creature's thoughts, the creature can use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested by your Intelligence check if it succeeds, the spell ends.
Questions verbally directed at the target creature naturally shape the course of its thoughts, so this spell is particularly effective as part of an interrogation.
You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can't see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you. You can't detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or lower or one that doesn't speak any language.
Once you detect the presence of a creature in this way, you can read its thoughts for the rest of the duration as described above, even if you can't see it, but it must still be within range.

That means a DC 17 wisdom save from Ryestro. If the spell works, then just whatever you feel like Tinwë might learn. And I'm sure he'll notice she's doing it :)May 2, 2018 1:57 am

With a crooked grin, Rolana says, I'd be delighted. I've been craving another chance to thrash you at Dragonchess.
Shaking out her bedroll, she announces to the others, It's decided, then. Aetoris and I will take the last two-hour shift before dawn. The rest of you may choose as you will.

You have travelled far and wide throughout the continent. You have made a specific study of the natural properties of magic and geological structures. You are certain that nothing naturally formed has these kinds of anti-magical properties. Furthermore, you have heard that lead has some anti-magic properties. But it acts more in a shielding sense, lead doesn't actually cancel out magical effects.

Tinwë receives no further thoughts and feels the spell has ended. Ryestro descends to the ground. He reaches into his bag and pulls out a cube; it floats out of his hand, about 15 feet out, and drops to the floor before expanding into a fortress. He turns to Tinwë "Come. Night falls upon us. A mind is best when it's rested." He turns back to the fortress and the door opens by itself, upon which he enters.
To Arina: I'm not really sure where Tinwë and I are in terms of time vs. location. If we match the time of the others, how far away are we from them and our destination?

Sorry if I was to vague on the initial spell but in a way it isn't too far from the truth. The "targets" isn't really an exact thing or person since Ryestro doesn't know much about this job, it falls to him thinking 'What-if-this, what-if-that'. Since he doesn't know what he is up against his surface thoughts consists of quick what-if scenarios and what he would do in that scenario. It is probably a bit jarring at the pace his mind moves.

Approximately 5 hours has passed since your fight with the Bulette. If you think that Ryestro would have noticed that his companions weren't following and returned then you conjure your instant fortress there. If not and you continued south then I'd image that you're about half a day ahead of them. Where do you think you are?

Instaling himself near the campfire, "I take middle watch, no bother me." Within instants he falls asleep, confident with his allies abilities to stay alert.

Oma Salie frowns at the idea of putting the crystal in a box made of lead, keeping it firmly in her hands. Don't you want to know what it does? Not the least bit interested in the workings of this crystal? She sounds genuinely shocked about the lack of curiosity. As the others quickly move on to the next subject she keeps quiet, having made up her mind already.
Last shift sounds good to me, let Aety wake me up, he can handle the mood... If anyone desperately needs me, I'll be over there, but I don't want to be disturbed.
While the others are setting up the camp, hopefully quite far away from the gutted bulette, Oma walks off between the trees, sitting down against one of them. She closes her eyes and first finds the connection she has with her Ioun Stone, knowing from experience she first has to mentally disconnect with something before she can make a new connection. She takes a deep breath, mentally unplugging the stone from her brain. Thank you old friend, when this is over I'll remember you again.
She opens her eyes briefly to clear her head and then focuses again on the crystal in her hands, feeling the pull on her magic once again. She allows her magic to flow, giving in to the draining power of the crystal, trying to build the connection, plug it into her brain, and uncover the secrets it still holds.

@Oma Salie: As you focus and meditate on the nature of the crystal you feel your magic begin to drain away, rather than fight it you allow the crystal to redirect the flows of your wild, unpredictable power. You watch as your magic flows deep into the crystal, right into its very heart. There you find the source. You focus on that source and feel a part of your consciousness slip into the crystal. You look out through the many facets and see the world through a completely different perspective. You can see the ambient magics and can control the magic around you. After a few moments, you focus and detach your mind from the heart of the crystal. Part of your focus remains inside.
While attuned to the crystal you gain the following effects:
The anti-magic field now encompasses your body and extends one foot beyond in all directions. Your own magic is now attuned to the crystal and will work as normal. However, all other magic be it from friend, foe or magic item, ceases to function within the sphere. The only exception to this rule is your other attuned magic items. They function normally.

Ryestro is after information—information he didn't see coming from a dead bulette—so he would of continued on. He sees the value in rest though, so he would of stopped when it got dark.May 3, 2018 11:11 am

Ok so Ryestro and Tinwe have camped about half a day's journey to the south of the rest of the party. For the rest of you I'd like, a survival check from whoever chose the camping location, and perception checks for 3 watches. First, second and third.
May 3, 2018 1:24 pm
Aetoris spends a bit of time sussing out a good camp location.
OOC:
Since Aety has proficiency in both survival and perception, because of Reliable Talent, any D20 roll less than a 10 on those skills is treated as a 10. So my minimum result for both is a 25.OOC:
Also, during his watch, he will wear his Eyes of the Eagle. He has advantage on sight based perception checks.Last edited May 3, 2018 1:28 pm
Rolls
Survival - (1d20+15)
(14) + 15 = 29
Perception (2nd watch) - (1d20+15)
(8) + 15 = 23
Advantage for sight based perception - (1d20+15)
(18) + 15 = 33

Tinwë mutters a curse under her breath as her spell fails, but continues after Ryestro.
She tries to conceal her shock when the fortress appears. "What, you aren't afraid of the dark, are you?" She moves to follow Ryestro, but hesitates on the threshold. There is no way I'm spending a night alone with this creep in a place I don't know. My questions can wait.
Tinwë steps back out and into the air. "I always preferred sleeping under the stars. Hopefully we find more answers in the morning." She flies up onto the roof of the fortress and settles down into a meditative posture, lightly humming a melody she once learned from a passing satyr.

Oma jumps up after finishing her attunement. Wow, this is amazing! This is beautiful! Oh... She holds the rock close to her face, suddenly realising her eyes of minute seeing don't work anymore. Oh no! She puts the crystal in her backpack and grabs her broom, straddling it and even doing a little hop like she wants to get up in the air, but nothing happens. No! This is HORRIBLE!
She steps off the broom and runs over to the camp whisperyelling. Aetoris! Aety I did it! But it's bad, no, it's good, but with a bad aftertaste! I can't fly anymore Aety... But I still have that swirling magic inside, so I did not lose my powers. I haven't tested it yet, but I feel like I can use my magic like normal and perhaps even can find a way to use my magic to penetrate the shield around others who use crystals like this! Oma flops down next to Aetoris, quickly putting her stuff down, taking her bedroll and while seated working her way in it. I will test things tomorrow. I don't want to wake anyone up...
She stares up at the sky, hoping the stars will calm her down because she needs the sleep.
