Something Strange is Happening in the South...

OOC:
I'm going to assume the nobles pass after Oma attuned to the crystal again? I don't want to speak for Pyrrha, but she followed the steward, so unless he's still there in the same spot as Oma she's not even there to see the nobles? If this happens BEFORE Oma attuned to the crystal again, ignore the rest of the post because that's what she's going to do first.
Just as Oma opens her eyes after placing part of her consciousness back in the crystal she sees a bunch of not battle worthy nobles walk into the fort. Looking around she doesn't see a familiar face so she decides to keep from testing the effects of another crystal on hers for a second and follow the group inside, finding Aetoris sitting chill as fuck in his chair and immediately she decides all these people must be very unimportant. She pushes past them until she ends up next to Aety. Aetoris, since you're not busy, can we discuss our next move with the crystal? The steward was completely useless, so I want to go out and test it, but I would like some help, from... Where are Fah'lin and Tinwë? She looks around, not finding them in the room, then raises both her eyebrows at Aetoris accusingly like he lost two children.

Tinwë waves to the halfling to run faster and keeps her eyes peeled for whatever may be behind him. Though she cannot call on her musical magic in this place, she does know the power of words and encouragement. "Safety is not far, little friend. Run on!"
OOC:
One Bardic Inspiration die for the halfling. 1d10 to an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Hoping he can use it to move a bit faster!
She stands her ground as the halfling runs past, pulling the arrow's fletching to her cheek.
It sounds big, but how fast can it be with this little one still alive? I'm sure I'm faster. Seeing this creature might give us some clues about this place.
OOC:
Plan is to attack once I can see the creature, and if it looks like trouble. If an arrow hits, Mobile Flourish to push it backwards 5+mobile Flourish die, then 1 ki point to bonus action Dash 100 feet back towards Fah'lin.

Rolls

Arrow 1! - (1d20+12, 1d8+5)

1d20+12 : (12) + 12 = 24

1d8+5 : (5) + 5 = 10

Arrow 2! - (1d20+12, 1d8+5)

1d20+12 : (10) + 12 = 22

1d8+5 : (6) + 5 = 11

Mobile Flourish (extra damage and push) if one arrow hits - (1d10)

(4) = 4

Don't just stand there! Quick while they're busy eating my horse! Run! the halfling yells as he puts on an extra burst of speed and sprints past you. You hear a strange sound coming from not too far away. You now recognise it to be the tearing of flesh and some odd churping sounds.
OOC:
Do you continue to hold your action?

OOC:
@Oma SalieProbably not as the attunement takes about an hour.
Pyrrha followed the steward and she saw him return to his tower in the fort and cast a sending spell. Everything seems to be legit there.
Jun 3, 2018 11:54 am

Very well my lord. Is there anything else? You notice about 50 or so well dressed minor nobles enter the grest hall at this point. Lord Byron, we have assembled out finest knights and we are ready to march on your order. the lead figure says with a bow.
Jun 3, 2018 1:19 pm
"Well then, after you!" Tinwë joins the halfling in a mad dash back to Fah'lin.

I'm confused, either Oma attuned to the crystal before the nobles walked past her OR she doesn't come with them to the great hall. Oma is not giving up on the attunement to follow the people, so if they passed her within the hour of attunement she is NOT in the great hall:-)

OOC:
My apologies. In that case Oma Salie spends the next hour or so attuning to the crystal while the rest of this is going on.

Sorry for the inactivity this week-end, had to help a friend move out of his apartment... I'll assume I came back with Lord Byron and was standing in silence near the entrance.
Kuz moves near the man addressing Lord Byron and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Lord Byron not in command anymore." Pointing to Aetoris, "He in charge now. You march on HIS order ! You understand that, yes ?... That is clear soldier ?..."
OOC:
Don't know if I need to roll intimidate on this but I added a roll just in case...

Rolls

Intimidate - (1d20+7)

(13) + 7 = 20

Who was saying the very well my lord and who were they saying it to? If Lord Byron, what did his demeanor appear to be? Does he seem sufficiently in fear for his position and neck? It will largely inform how Aetoris responds/reacts when the nobles enter.

OOC:
Yes, I'm a bit confused about this encounter, too. It sounded as though Byron was grudgingly submitting, but this parade of noble posers suggests otherwise.
Jun 4, 2018 3:33 pm
OOC:
The way I saw it, Lord Byron was submitting, and after that some minor nobles entered, probably on orders he gave earlier, thinking he was still in charge. Kuz simply tried to make clear he wasn't in charge anymore but Aetoris was.

OOC:
Kind of my thoughts as well, but figured getting clarity on dispositions and all will make Aety's approach a little easier. He has some general plans to "soften" the blow somewhat, as well as separating the fool from his "currency" of troops.

This is exactly what happened. Does it read differently?

OOC:
It was just a little confusing. I think we're all on the same page now.

@Everyone in the great hall: Actually I think you have done very well so far but from a game mechanics position I just tried to up the stakes a little. If you can figure out a way for Lord Byron to save face in front of this group of minor nobles then you'll avoid making an enemy out of him.

Good luck

Rolana steps forward and puts a light hand on Kuz's arm. Thank you, Champion, but His Lordship has already made his understanding of the chain of command admirably clear. He is a man of the utmost integrity and patriotism, as we are all well aware.

With a smile and a subtle curtsy to Lord Byron, she continues. Lord Byron, we've never had the pleasure, but I am Sola Kraen, diplomatic attache to King Pious. His Majesty has told me so much about you, my lord. Please accept my heartfelt thanks, on behalf of the Crown, for supplying your leadership prior to our party's arrival. I think we can all agree that things could have gone much differently without your involvement. Your elegant transfer of power to Commander Aetoris is very much appreciated.
OOC:
Since there's no "bullshit" skill, I'm guessing this requires a persuasion roll. Reliable Talent, can't be less than 19, blah blah.

Edit: It occurs to me that you might actually want a deception roll instead, so I'm adding it just in case.

Persuasion - (1d20+9)

(10) + 9 = 19

Deception - (1d20+0)

(20) = 20

Aetoris smiles as Sola moves smoothly into honeyed words.

My associate is correct, as always Lord Byron. As you mentioned, you've heard much of my deeds. I have some small knowledge of your own deeds sir. While we are all required to pull equal weight in defending ourselves, I do have a need for someone with knowledge of the troops here as well. After all, you better know the abilities of your bannermen. I would be most appreciative if you would join our war council here and help us to analyze the information coming in. Aetoris says, finally rising from his seat, turning to face the newly assembled nobles.

Welcome, all of you. For those that don't know me, my name is Aetoris Nailo. I have assumed command of this fort under the order of King Pious. We have come far, and at no small magical expense, to assess the situation at hand. The fact that the king has sent us here in such a manner should inform you of the gravity we face here. Your lord Byron has informed me of his initial concerns with mounting defenses here and his bravery is commendable. We learned from different masters, however. As I've assumed command, we will lean heavily on the intelligence that some of my compatriots are currently beginning to gather on the pyramid that has risen. I know the request I will make of you seems distasteful and below your station. I ask you to remember that in the trenches of every great war, generals and green recruits alike are stained brown with the mud of toil. Our first order is to properly dig trenches and erect earthen ramparts around the fort. We can ill afford to allow the common folk of the fort to fall to the depravities of whichever enemy sits at our border! You are no doubt accomplished fighters. Please, use this information to your advantage as you work with the captain of the guard here. Ensure that our defenses will stand against any that march against the fort. I assure you, as soon as we know what kind of threat we face - a threat that erased a full squad of impeccably trained knights I'll remind you - we will form a proper battle plan and I will act as forward scout for you all. But I will not throw lives against a hidden threat without knowing how best to use you. Please, permit me the luxury of a few short days to learn from lord Byron all that you can provide while you show your noble faces among the populace here, setting about their defense. he says, his voice booming out over the collected crowd, clearly falling back to his former military ways. Can I trust in your support, as I find myself able to trust Lord Byron?
OOC:
Not sure if you want anything rollwise. :)

Oh I miss Diplomacy from 4th edition. Let's go for a group persuasion check.

Oh boy, Persuasion...one of the few things Aety is NOT good at!
