Hi all - thanks for joining this game with me! I'm looking forward to having a metaphorical and literal blast with you over this campaign!

About me: I'm a huge Star Wars nerd, from watching the original movies with my dad, to playing The Old Republic RPG for 100+ hours, to newer movies and countless hours on Wookiepedia.

I'm enthusiastic about helping you have an awesome adventure. At the end of the day this is YOUR adventure and I'm looking forward to seeing what direction this will all take with you.

This is the second time i've been a GM for a EotE game so I'm still relatively new by most standards. So don't hesitate to speak up if you think I could improve or if you think there is something I should know but don't know about. If you don't feel comfortable saying it in public you can always PM me :)

This game is a marathon not a sprint and i'd prefer a long term slow burn campaign to something that is rushed and burns people out. That means I'm expecting between 3-5 posts per week (no doubt more than that during the initial excitement) but I expect we'll hit a natural rhythm that we're all comfortable with once we get up and running.

I'm a freelance programmer in my day job so I do get busy with projects but will do my best to check and reply most week days.

*House Rule* as long as you are all comfortable with this (let me know if you are not) if a player doesn't reply for 3 days then we will either skip them or move their character a little to keep the story flowing for other players (whichever makes more sense).

The first mission

Our first mission is a good ice breaker mission called "Debts to Pay" - I'm hoping most of you haven't done it to avoid too many spoilers for yourself and others. If you have done this mission then please don't tell your characters :)

Once we've completed this first mission (which should take about a month or so) then we'll be ready for something a bit bigger and even more epic, I have a few options in mind already but we can discuss it all later.

I'm hoping you're all in for the long haul as i'd love to build some epic characters and awesome stories over the next 6-12 months of real world time.

My GM style (so far)

Last but not least, I'd like to copy my GM ethos over here, this text also appeared in my game advertisement but just here again for reference:

You can expect a fair game from me where your choices will be mostly responsible for your character's success and fate.

As a GM I won't be 'out to get you', but you always have the potential to face ruthless enemies, real danger and even death in each mission if you make bad decisions or have bad luck (often at the same time).

Naturally, knowing that as your GM I can, at times (not always!), be absolutely merciless, your victories and accomplishments will also have much more meaning. The dramatic moments will be more intense. The lighter moments will be a welcome relief at times. And, if your character does suffer a horrible fate for whatever reason, you can always create a new one and we'll easily find a way to bring them into the story. In no way am I implying that generating a new character will be common, I just want to let you know that you won't be eliminated from the game.

Next steps:

I'd love everyone to introduce themselves and answer the following ice breaker questions (I have asked most of you individually already):

1. Have you played EotE or any other RPG games before? And if yes, how much?

2. What do you most want to experience in the game?

3. Is there anything specific about your play style that we should know about?

Hello everyone!

I'm excited to be playing a game with everyone here and I hope we have a great time going forward.

1. I have played EotE before, but not a great deal. I've run beginner games several times and also ran half a Beyond the Rim campaign. So, I'm not very experienced, but I have the basics.

I have a great deal of RPG experience with D&D 3.5e/4e/5e and Pathfinder. I've also played Star Wars Saga d20 before. I'm a big fan of Star Wars and love the animated shows. I've also been listening to the new audio books.

2. What do I want to experience? I want to feel like our character's decisions and actions have weight behind them. I want my character to develop strong relations with the other characters. I want for our backstories to come up in interesting and possibly dramatic ways. I also love episodic stories, so it doesn't always need to be a long arching plot, but I also don't want for it to always be dramatic and plot heavy. So breathing room to have just fun adventures is great as well.

3. I'm not used to play by post, but I read a lot of books (well, now I listen to audiobooks more) and I have experience with forum roleplaying in the past. My primary concern is for everyone to be having fun and I'm really flexible with any changes that might be need to be taken in order to improve everyone's experience. So, I hope you find me approachable as we play.

Of note, I've spent most of my time with tabletop RPGs as a GM, so I'm thrilled to be a player in a system like EotE.

Hi all,

1. Have you played EotE or any other RPG games before? And if yes, how much?

I've played a couple campaigns for EotE and DnD. I also ran a couple for AoR for a total of 2-3 years now.

2. What do you most want to experience in the game?

I'm much more on the lines of telling a fun/interesting story when playing RPGs, so I'm pretty flexible in terms of over-arching stories vs more episodic ones. Dramatic stories might not be my strong suit, but I'm willing to give it a try.

3. Is there anything specific about your play style that we should know about?

At a regular table, I like cracking jokes and/pop culture references every now and then. I'll likely continue to do the same here. Having been on both sides of the table, I'm not a huge fan of cheesing the system to be maximizing efficiency, i.e. I'm not going to build a combat monster.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of "evil" characters. Morally grey is fine, but most of my experience with evil characters typically haven't gone well and I do my best to avoid them.

Good Afternoon Ya'll!

1. Have you played EotE or any other RPG games before? And if yes, how much?
I sure have. I've played in various one-shot DnD sessions but the vast majority of my RPG experience has been with the FFG SWRPG system.
A close friend and I have roped our respective better halves into a weekly RPG campaign that sees he and I alternate as GM. Just wrapped up GMing Onslaught at Arda 1.

2. What do you most want to experience in the game?
Outside of my mate and I (who're massive Star Wars fans, extended universe, TV shows, comics, etc.) our girlfriends don't have the 'Knowledge: Lore' to really dig into more intricate and exciting Star Wars adventures.
Additionally, they never truly roleplay and will often say things like 'I enter the room and take a perception check'. I'm excited to imerse myself into my character.

3. Is there anything specific about your play style that we should know about?
I have only ever played with the same group and as the same PC (Legend level Duro Hotshot Ace). It's very possible that we've misinterpretted the odd rule here and there - so don't be alarmed if that occurs!

Otherwise, not really! I reckon it'll be smooth sailing (spacing?)

Nice to meet you all.

1. Have you played EotE or any other RPG games before? And if yes, how much?

Yes but mainly just the starter game. Most of my role play experience is from D&D, White Wolf and homebrew.

2. What do you most want to experience in the game?
Just some fun interactions using this format, I want for us to tell a great story together.

3. Is there anything specific about your play style that we should know about?
Nothing specific, I like to consider my actions so this format should be great.

Awesome everyone! Moving our focus over to the "Character Creation" thread now - I'd love to get us started on actually playing the game as soon as we are ready next week, so the focus is 100% on characters and backstory until then.

Hey all - just a quick note to let you know I will be away for the middle of this week (Wednesday and Thursday) - I'm flying back to my sisters wedding and she lives about a 10 hour flight from me :) aside from that I'm here.

Ok mate, hope you have a great time.

Quick question:

When making posts, how would you like to see that written?

'Dud does x'
or
'I do x'

Hey hey! I've mostly seen people do the 'Dud does x' but I'll understand either way, since you and Dud become one in the in game chat :)

Regarding one of the other PC’s being responsible for the damage to my shop. Given Jacks understanding of how these things work I think he’d be initially angry but wouldn’t directly blame who carried out the deed. He’d save his anger for the person pulling the trigger, not the gun itself. I’m easy either way with it as a plot point, if it organically comes up then we can play it out safe in the knowledge he’s not going to sabotage a seat belt of mess around with other people’s weapons. Part of him would even be grateful to the person who did it since it would vindicate his thoughts on how and why it happened in the first place.

Hey Andy! That is awesome, love the way everyone is working together so easily.

On another note. I saw this response to a reddit post earlier today and wanted to share it with you all. The original post was something along the lines of "How do I make my Play By Post (PbP) game awesome?"

https://i.imgur.com/IPrjCZv.jpg

I really like that person's reply and I encourage you all to have more creative license in our game. What I mostly mean is - you are all welcome to describe not just your character's actions and thoughts but the world around you. After all at the heart of our game is collective story telling.

And don't be afraid to push the story along even if you feel unsure, just go for it and we'll work it out!

Roger that mate. I'll get more descriptive. Looking forward to it!

Gwekk eyeballs the situation for a little while longer before saying: "Look Genko. I know a thing or two about how Gamorreans do their mating rituals. And this looks far too friendly as far as Gamorrean mating rituals go. What's really going on here?"
LOL! Looking forward to the spin-off story in which I discover just how Gwekk learned this!

Good advice, cheers.

I'm off on vacation starting tomorrow and won't have access to a computer. I would try to use my phone, but it doesn't appear that this site is very mobile friendly.

Anyways, I'll try to keep posting until I hit the road.

I should be back Sunday.
