The 1st bullet point of the Shield Master feat reads:
"If you take the Attack action on your turn, you can use a bonus action to try to shove a creature within 5 feet of you with your shield."
Now I've always imagined that as a shield bash rather than a simple shove. So houserule:
1) You can shove before you attack. Ignore
Jeremy Crawford's stupid about-face.
2) With this feat (or the Captain's Shield attuned) you get to use your bonus action to deal 1d4 damage AND possibly knock the enemy prone.
