Your rest is broken after only a short hours rest. It is just past midnight when a guard rushes in to wake you.

"Please, come quick, the attackers have broken into the keep. They have forced open the Sally Port and have rushed in. We need reinforcements.

The young guard is terrified looking as he waits for you to awaken!
Jun 13, 2018 2:27 am
Kel stands up from the chair he was in and kicks any laggards awake before rushing off with the guard. "Enough of that, you can sleep tomorrow!"
Jun 13, 2018 6:23 am
Harold's head still a bit fuzzy from the abrupt waking, he grabs his stuff, cinching it all in place, then drawing his longbow and an arrow, and heads with Kel towards the Sally Port to aid the keep.

Bartholomew grunts, picks up his weapons and follows Kel. He mutters a prayer to Bahamut as he summons himself back to alertness.
Jun 14, 2018 1:43 pm
Actaeon, who remained quiet on the endeavor back to the keep, wakes up on his favorite resting area, the nice cool ground. he puts his quiver and longbow back on to get ready to jump back into action.
Jun 15, 2018 6:39 pm
Responding to the alarums and lighting of torches, the shaman collects his staff and spears and charges toward the sounds of battle. He summons a sphere of flame into his right hand, holding it aloft to light his way.
Jun 15, 2018 11:47 pm
As the group emerges from there place of rest they are immediately greeted by Castelan the Red.

"There you all are. Some of the raiders have made it into the keep. My people have things under control with them. Unfortunately the Sally Port has been compromised. I need you all to re-secure the room until we can find someone to fix the opening. Head there quickly."
Jun 15, 2018 11:54 pm
You make your way in the direction Castellan points you. As you get to the entrance of the Sally Port you are met by a tall, lithe, imposing human, who would tower over most. He has a sharp, hawk-like nose and bright black eyes. His hair is long, sleek, and jet and his skin, where visible, is olive and still tinged with the blood of youth. He is a man of the swamps, wearing ocher and kaolin paint on his face and body, as is the tradition of a shaman of his stature.

He wears a hide jacket and leather leggings as customary to his nation. Slung over his shoulder is a hide drum... or shield, hard to identify, and he carries a long staff in his left hand. A long quiver of javelins and spears shakes quietly on his back. His chest is adorned with amulets, charms, strings of river mussel shells, and tiny bird skulls. The middle of his chest is adorned with an ornate wampum chestplate, strung with hand-drilled beads of turquoise and ivory. About his neck, hangs a satchel of herbs. On his shoulder is a chirping crow.
Jun 16, 2018 12:11 am
"This way!" the tall shaman directs, holding a sphere of flame up high so that the others can see the safest path into combat.

He sprints in the direction of the sally port, determined to stem the flow of the invaders as quickly as possible.
OOC:
Using the dash action to close the distance as quickly as possible. Rabal will summon his hawk totem and move it ahead of his path, providing advantage with some perception abilities, though probably only taking away disadvantage for spotting the foe.
Jun 16, 2018 12:25 am
Kel hefts his own staff at the shaman, and casts Mage Armor. "Kel. Kel Chezersk," he adds before following Rabal.
Jun 16, 2018 1:43 am
The tall Druid takes the lead and enters the Sally Port. As you ascend a short set of stairs and turn a corner you pass through an open set of doors and see before you 4 kobolds, a humonoid wearing a ceremonial looking headgear and he is accompanied by a four legged lizard like creature with a long thick tail that bears the resemblance of a dragon but is the size of and walks like a wolf.

The humanoid mumbles a few words and makes a hand movement and a divine energy glows about him for a moment before fading. He then changes his focus and continues moving his hands and directions his words now at Kel.

Jun 22, 2018 4:07 pm
Bartholomew shrugs. "I can break doors", he offers unhelpfully.
Jun 22, 2018 6:16 pm
The Crowheart raises an eyebrow at Harold's words, perhaps wondering how someone with only martial training could know about such things.

Then, looking to the problem at hand, he raises his arms and gestures wildly, chanting deep, rhythmic syllables over and over, until gradually, the roots and vegetation, hiding beneath the soil and flagstones of the old courtyard, begin to reach up from the ground nearest the gates. From here, they climb and writhe, horribly, hungrily, reaching up and across, intertwining themselves through and around the split and shattered boards of the doors, weaving them together with tight bands of vines and twisted branches. The woody, black growth rapidly develops verdant leaves and soon covers the whole sally port, as though it were a huge, decorative trellis.
OOC:

Rabal directs the vines to grow up under the door and climb up the outside surface, leaving the inside faces of the door accessible for repairs, barring, or a mending enchantment.
OOC:
The twenty foot square could be placed directly under and behind the sally port, plugging up the space between the port and the outside world. Someone else will have to find someone to assist with the door as Rabal must concentrate.

"Go to the top of the wall, Flent" Rabal commands his crow.

"Corn!" it retorts saucily before launching off the tall man's shoulder in a whisper of dry, glossy feathers. Flying to the area atop the wall, it surveys the land beyond.

The cultists begin pushing their way into the Sally Port, Rabal launches a ball of flame at the first one in the doorway. C1 attacks Bart with his Scimitar, the blade bouncing off the Paladin's Shield.

C3 joins in on the attack, his sword managing to find a weak spot in Bart's defenses. The blood is beginning to poor from Bart pretty steadily as the last of the cultist shakes off the fire from Rabal and slashes with his weapon as well. Bart turns around just in time to see pieces of the keep parapet fall to the ground in front of the Sally Port where BArt was standing just seconds before. The rubble effectively closed off the Sally Port. However screams and shouting can be heard from outside the room you are in.

Kel considers taking a shot at the dragon, curiosity and a burning rage struggling for revenge on the beast. But he knows that to draw it's full attention may cost dozens their lives.

He brings his teeth as he follows Rabal, watching for villagers they can herd assist.
Jul 25, 2018 3:04 pm
Before any of you have a chance to act further you feel waves of fear come over you upon seeing the dragon. (Everyone make A wisdom saving throw)

Watching, you can tell that the dragonappears to be only reluctantly attacking the towers and can likely be driven off with a good hit or two, unwilling to risk his own skin. However, any successful attack that doesn't drive him off is likely to focus his quite lethal attention on you. Driving him off now would save hundreds of lives and the surviving guards would make life that much more difficult for the cultists. What do you want to do?"

From out the keep tower you see the Dwarf Captain Escobert the Red. He spots your group and comes running up to you.

"This bloody Dragon is fucking murdering our men on the parapets. One of our scouting groups was able to capture one of the mercenaries working with the Dragon cult. He was pretty talkative though after some "convincing" by yours truly, he says that the dragon's name is Lennithon and that it apparently wasn't very keen on joining this venture that the Cult is on. Lennithon was to be used primarily as added intimidation, which is clearly working by all the scared shitless men up there. I think if we can get a few good shots on this bastard it will flee. The merc says it has no interest in fighting and that its likely that the leader, some bitch named Frulam Mordath, ordered the Dragon to make some sort of final attack. Can you get up there to try and help my men drive it off?

To the soldiers, he roars: "Next pass, men, we'll concentrate fire. As soon as it is in range of what ever you have, let loose. And try not to bunch up in those straight lines, you saw what it can do!"

Rabal's heart is in his throat, a suffocating fear that tries to strangle him and presses his feet to move in the opposite direction from his heart. He has never truly felt fear before and so this is the most unnerving feeling he has ever experienced. So, once he recovers from this weakness he has never known, the emotion has to go somewhere - anger!

Flying into a bloodcrazed rage, the Crowheart lets out an ululating warcry and sprints to the top of the parapets. From here, he launches a sphere of fire at the flying blue reptile that has incensed his rage so much.

With the dragon's departure a collective breath is let out within the keep. Though the raid continues outside.

It appears that the injured have been tended to as amazingly few were injured and only two killed by the deadly lighting breath.

The party makes its way down from the top of the keep, wiping sweat from their brow as they are beginning to grow weary from the long evening.

Governor Nighthill quickly approaches you as soon as you reach the courtyard area. "I can't thank you all enough for what you have done for this town today. But unfortunately I must ask more of you. The guards have spotted a new threat. Raiders are trying to set fires to the town's mill. If it burns, we'll lose our stockpile of flour and we won't be able to grind more for months. I'm, trying to assemble enough defenders from here in the keep to defend it through the rest of the night, but that will take time. You'd do us a great service if you could get to the mill quickly and drive away the raiders before they can set it aflame. You'll need to defend it until our force arrives to take over, but it shouldn't be more than fifteen minutes behind. We also found out the raiders managed to set fire to the sanctuary, they then broke into it and killed many of the people that were barricaded inside. Only a handful made it out safely. We cannot afford to suffer these tragedies for much longer. Will you continue to aid us?"

Continuing along towards the Mill you eventually arrive to find a simple rectangular barn, roughly 40 ft long and 20 feet wide with an attached smaller office on the front exterior. The long side of the building facing towards you and away from the stream has barn doors and a two-part door, and the two short walls have windows. All these openings are closed.

You can hear the noise of the mill wheel still turning. The millers must have fled in a hurry when the raid began.

A few small fires are burning around the building as you spot 3 humanoid figures attempting to light the building on fire.
Sep 10, 2018 2:54 pm
Kel motions to the others, before raising his hand to cast a spell. "Good, they haven't set the mill on fire yet, but they're still at it. Quickly, ranged attackers, strike them down, but close quarters attackers, keep an eye out on the other buildings."

Harold, leery of entering this place (he suspects an ambush because he would also try to do this), whispers to the group: what should we do to draw these fools out that are inevitably waiting for us here?
Sep 18, 2018 7:11 pm
Actaeon replies in a whisper to the message, Definitely an ambush. 6 of them are all up on the loft awaiting for us to enter. I have an idea to lure them out- get ready for an immediate counter-ambush if you guys are willing to trust me.
Sep 18, 2018 7:14 pm
Kel passes that one quietly to the others, saying: "He says there are 6 of them set up for an ambush in the loft. He says to get ready for a counter-ambush. I'll try and put a few of them to Sleep; attend to those who don't drop."

Kel will wait for confirmation from the Bartholomew and Harold, then signal ready via Message to Actaeon.

Its a two story building on the larger section, Acteon is currently 10-12 feet off the ground peering into a window directly above the barn double door. As a note Acteon, you also notice a set of stairs to the right side of the loft area and they appear to be huddled mostly around an opening in the loft floor looking down into the first floor area.

If anyone wishes to move before we continue, let me know now..otherwise just post READY

I would not say that I exclusively do that no...but it does happen if I am in a position to see the post and react to it and don't think about giving the other players a chance then yeah it can happen, like today...tbh I sometimes just don't think about giving the other pcs a chance, not because thats what I intend to do but because I hopped on...saw the post...and reacted...not saying that is good at all but just what I did/do, I am not trying to step on other pcs and I understand that sometimes I can move things along too fast with other pcs that are more active than others...

In this instance I think its perfectly reasonable to say that Harold walked up to the guy and slit his throat completely to your guys dismay and you all were so surprised by his actions that you did not react in time to save him...HOWEVER...if its a big deal I am willing to rewind the situation and delete posts back to his declaration and go from there.

Actaeon sighs, and lowers his bow, We'll deal with this later. Tie these two up, because the more we quarrel, the more citizens that will die. Now, let's drop them off at the keep, and see where we're needed next.
Sep 24, 2018 3:04 am
Kel backs up Bartholomew and Actaeon, but he doesn't brandish any weapons at Harold. "This is a matter for the Lord of the keep. He will likely side with you Harold. These murderers have no friends here. "
Sep 24, 2018 5:02 am
Harold sets the guy down that he was willing to carry. Fine, Sah! You carry the damned guy.

He steps into the blade a little, so that it presses against his chest, where his heart would be.

You would LOVE to murder a halfie, wouldn’t ya? Like your people did to my twin brother?

If you’re going to hold a sword to my chest, have the guts to drive it through me, or get outta ma face. It’s no time for debate or waste. This is a war.

Now come on! You carry this fucker that tried to kill you and everyone else in this town.
OOC:
I dunno, guys. This kind of conflict makes for a fun game. *Lol*

OOC:
It does when PC's are the ones debating, not the players themselves.
Harold, I've killed my fair share of these bastards, but if I ever have the chance at sparing a life, then you damn well believe I will do that. If you so much as touch one more unarmed man, I will put an arrow through your skull before you can even react. he sighs, Some of these men might have a chance at switching sides too.
Sep 24, 2018 9:51 am
As you finish up the conversation, awkwardly, a group of a dozen bloodied but basically healthy defenders arrive from the keep with orders to relive you and defend the mill through the rest of the raid. They tell you to head back to the keep quietly while they remain at the mill.

Bartholomew does not flinch at the halfling’s unsubstantiated accusation. "I am sorry your brother was murdered, but it was not me, and that is no excuse for committing murder yourself. Now March, Sah. The Governor will decide what to do with you."
Sep 24, 2018 12:49 pm
OOC:
He’s not a halfling. But whatevs.
He will, whether I submit myself or not.

Do me a favor and give your piece a blowjob, Sah!

He swats the sword down and walks in the direction of the keep, confident in his feelings about the situation.

You all suffer one level of exhaustion as it is now late into the evening (approximately 2am or later).
OOC:
Exhaustion Level 1 - disadvantage on skill checks

You return to the keep uneventfully but are immediately met by the fiery haired Dwarf, Castellan Escobert.

We've got good news and bad. The good news is it looks like the majority of the raider's forces have begun to withdraw from the town. It looks like we may make it through this. As he says this though, he lowers his head briefly before continuing, Follow me.

Escobert leads you back up to the top of the parapet and points towards the west and slightly south towards a glow in the sky,
The church didn't fair so well though. About 20 minutes after you all left to save the mill we saw it. The bastards lit the whole damned building on fire. We don't know if there were any survivors but we know there were at least 2 dozen folks holed up in there.

As he is about to continue one of the guards runs near and says, Castellan! Come quickly!
Sep 25, 2018 8:29 pm
From the darkness, a creature strides in to the dim light of the dying fires around the keep. Although it is shaped roughly like a human, it is at least seven feet tal, its skin is covered in blue scales, its fingers bear wicked claws, and its face has the muzzle and reptilian eyes of a dragon. The creature stops about eighty yards from the main gate of the keep and scans the walls. A line of kobolds fans out behind it. With their spears, they prod four human prisoners in to the dim light. You can make out a woman, a teenage boy in a blood-soaked tunic, and two children. Then the half-dragon creature hails the keep.

Defenders of Greenest! This has been a successful night, and I am feeling generous. Do you see these four pitiful, useless prisoners? We have no need for them, so I will trade them back to you. Send out your best warrior to fight me, and you can have these four in exchange.
Sep 25, 2018 8:35 pm
With little time to soak the information in, one of the guards rushes forward to see and screams out Laura! He immediately turns and makes for the steps to head down.

Escobert tells a pair of guards to restrain him quickly.

What are you doing? Thats my sister! My nephews!

Castellan attempts to calm him down when Governor Nighthill appears, speaks briefly with the Shield Dwarf and then turns his attention back to you.

Sergeant Markguth, though brave, is not in his right mind to attempt this fight for his family and would surely die. My friends, you've demonstrated your prowess all through this frightful night. I realize this is an awful burden to ask you to bear, but any of you has a better chance to defeat that horror than my milita have.
Sep 25, 2018 9:30 pm
"I will do it Sah. It is my calling. I will defend this town with my life if necessary. Blessed be Bahamut."

The Dragonborn steps forward.
Sep 25, 2018 10:59 pm
Actaeon nods his head to Bartholomew, Good luck, Sah. then turns to Langdedrosa, Hey, you didn't happen to bring Rezmir along did you? Maybe Frulam, or BogLuck?
Sep 25, 2018 11:39 pm
With that, Harold is going to find a nice perch where he can watch the scene. He preps an arrow, and awaits the proceedings.
Sep 26, 2018 1:15 am
"I have nothing to help you. Good luck, my friend."
Sep 26, 2018 2:10 am
The blue half-dragon scoffs at the Dragonborn in front of him.

This is all you’ve got. An afterthought of a false god. This will be easier then I thought.

Langdedrosa steps forward wielding a great sword and wearing splint mail armor. He stands, sword in hand, at the ready. Your move metal joke.
OOC:
He is allowing you to take the first swing as it were. However he is taking the dodge action to start. Bart you may go.

Just so everyone is aware. The prisoners are being held by a large group of kobolds and look ready to kill them if necessary. It would not look advisable to try anything without being willing to risk their lives.
Sep 26, 2018 4:05 am

OOC:
Bartholomew didn’t expect to just teleport before him. He is pretty badly injured and I was going to cast cure light wounds on myself if the keep’s healers didn’t offer... Can he be healed before leaving the keep?
OOC:

Not a problem
As Bart is about to exit the Keep, he is stopped by Bertram, one of the Clerics rescued earlier in the evening. He grabs the brave Dragonborn and says, Son, you don't look so hot, let me help you out. Bertram holds his holy symbol and casts Cure Wounds (Heals 10HP)
OOC:
You can proceed
Sep 26, 2018 11:26 pm
Bartholomew nods his thanks for the heal and approached the half-dragon. The walk is a long and lonely one, but he tells himself it must be done. He feels no need to make small talk, and the attempted insult rolls off his back. After all, he’s had to deal with enough insults from his comrades. He feels prepared for the ordeal.

When the half-dragon invites him to attack he doesn’t hesitate... he mutters a quick prayer to Bahamut (ooc: bonus action, shield of faith +2 AC) and swings his blade that simply has seen too much action recently...

The Blue Half-dragon cockily attempts to sidestep Bartholomew’s swing. The blade catches him with the blunt edge of the blade against his armor. Not doing much physical damage, the Paladin showing clear signs of his exhaustion from the evenings activity, it still seems to have taken the cult leader somewhat by surprise. He gives Bart a little smirk before turning towarss the keep and addresses those watching. You disappoint me. Sending this wyrmling out to fight me. He turns back to Bart and says Care to try again? He stands there waiting your advance.
OOC:
Taking the dodge action again. Bart may go again.
Sep 27, 2018 3:19 am
OOC:
I added the disadvantage to my previous post. You can add rolls without the previous rolls changing. Sorry it confused you, boss.
Bartholomew is frustrated at the antics of the leader, and says so. "You call me out to fight you and then jump around like a cowardly jester. Stand and fight if you have any honor." Bartholomew has been a soldier for a long time and he recognizes he is being toyed with. The fact that the foe is heavily armored and is attempting to dodge his blows is a cowardly way to fight, and the paladin knows he has slim chance of striking him. Nonetheless, he accepted the challenge and how he behaves now is a matter of honor. Not to mention he promised to protect the village. He swings his sword again hoping for a lucky strike guided by Bahamut.

This time Cyanwrath was more prepared for the Paladin's attack and easily sidesteps it. This time he counter strikes, making two swipes with his Great Sword. The first one landing, almost knocking the wind out of Bartholomew, the second glancing of the Paladin's shield.

BOOOM

A loud clap of thunder is heard as Bart strikes at Langdedrosa. The blade hitting the half-dragon's arm, causing him to stumble back 10' feet and fall to the ground. A cheer erupts from those watching atop the keep.

Now with his pride bruised, along with his body, Langdedrosa climbs back to his feet and charges at Bartholomew with a roar and fury as he unleashes a surge of attacks.

The swiftness in which Langdedrosa moves catches Bartholomew off guard as the first strike catches him and causes a nasty wound to open up in the Dragonborn's side. Bart is able to parry and dodge the other attacks. Breathing heavily and bleeding badly now, our hero is looking rough.
OOC:

I’m assuming he didn’t charge or use multiattack, but actually used movement to stand up and move up and then use his extra attacks for a high level fighter. Poor Bartholomew... nice knowing you.
Bartholomew is now shocked at the abilities of this creature. That flurry of blows was like what his master used to use. This time it seems there is nothing Bahamut can do about it. He mutters a quick prayer of thanks to Bahamut for his support and attacks once more, hoping to send a message to the village and his companions that no matter what the odds, never give up.

The first strike connects and Bartholomew's eyes roll back in his head as he slumps motionless to the ground, the second swing catching only air.

Breathing heavily, Langdedrosa takes a few steps back now and motions for the kobolds to release the prisoners, who immediately run towards the keep.

Thank you Greenest, its been a pleasure. With that the last of the raiders retreat en masse from the town into the darkness, marching away toward the southeast.
Sep 27, 2018 3:16 pm
Immediately rushing out, Bertram and his brother Oliver stabilize and heal Bartholomew, bringing him back from the brink of death.
(+11 Hit points)

Once back on his feet Governor Nighthill approaches Bartholomew, Thank you son, you saved those peoples lives at risk of your own. Its not much but please take these as a personal thank you. The Governor hands Bartholomew Two (2) potions of Healing.

The sun will be up soon and we will need to morn our losses, bury our dead. You and your friends, come find me after you have rested. There are many questions that will need to be answered. For now though, you've more than earned a breather.

The Governor walks off and begins talking with Escobert and other town leaders on the task of picking up the pieces of what is left.
OOC:
You are free to rest or do what ever...if you do not rest I will need another round of con saves from everyone.
Sep 27, 2018 3:45 pm
Bartholomew thanks Nighthill for the potions. "Don’t thanks me, thank Bahamut, Sah. You and Greenest are most welcome. This whole episode is very puzzling. What exactly were their intentions here?"

Even after some of his wounds being healed Bartholomew is still wounded so lays hands on himself. "I really must rest. It has been a long day, Sah."

He seeks out his comrades. "I need to sleep..." He turns to Harold. ...and you need to turn yourself in to Governor Nighthill like we agreed."

He heads off to find somewhere to rest.
Sep 27, 2018 4:00 pm
Actaeon stands up, and walks over to the Dragonborn, Bart! Holomew.. he clears his throat, and stretches out his hand, You did a fine job, Sah. I would be honored if you were to join me in pursuing this cult- I have business to finish with them, and I need a strong ally.

Sep 27, 2018 5:23 pm

Sep 28, 2018 12:03 am
Kel finds a quiet place and attempts to get a complete (long) rest, to recover his spells.
Sep 28, 2018 1:09 am
You all receive the effects of a long rest. Your level of exhaustion is removed Hit points/spells and other abilities restored. You however only restore a max of 1 of your used Hit die.

As a side note...moving forward I'm going to apply a level of exhaustion for anyone that has to make a death saving throw...you will receive 1 level of exhaustion for each incident in which you go unconcious and are required to roll at least 1 death saving throw. This will make getting knocked unconcious have a little more impact in the game. If we find that it becomes to have too much of an impact on the game I will consider removing the home brew rule. For now we will be testing it out...I'm going to be applying it to all games I'm running for the foreseeable future.
Sep 28, 2018 1:12 am
You all stir shortly before midday. The town is full of activity as people are cleaning up from the raid. Word reaches you that over 500 people were killed in the raid. Sadness and despair is a common sight.

What do you do?
Sep 28, 2018 3:13 am
Harold typically is not one to succumb to the authority of a hard ass like Bart, but due to his display of heroics the precious night, he walks himself quickly to the governor and explains the situation about slitting the throat of the sleeping cultist. His voice reveals no remorse or qualm.

Depending on what that man decides, he will (hopefully) go and replenish his arrows again, get some provisions, and then approach the group again to determine how they will pursue these assholes to exact revenge for their mass carnage.
Sep 28, 2018 10:07 am
Bartholomew rises, grateful for the rest. He walks the village as the sun rises, and helps people where he can. If something heavy needs lifting or moving he will assist, if someone is crying he will give them a hug, if something is damaged he’ll try to repair it. He asks around for the location of a temple or church, preferably dedicated to Bahamut.

Oct 3, 2018 2:13 am
The Governor stares down Harold for a few tense moments before responding Son, I appreciate you coming forward. But perhaps a priest would be a better ear for your confessions. Those sons of bitches murdered hundreds of my people last night. I couldn’t give two shits about the life of one then. To be honest, I can’t say what I would have done had I been in the same position. And right now I need you and your friends working for me against those cultists a lot more than I need you with chains on your wrists. Soon as you all are up and ready come find me again. I’ve got a task for you.
Oct 3, 2018 2:14 am
Bartholomew - the only Temple in the town was to Chauntea and was burned to the ground last night with dozens inside.
Oct 3, 2018 2:15 am
Actaeon- You very easily see the trail of the cultists heading to the Soitheast.
Oct 3, 2018 2:21 am
In the warm light of day, Governor Nighthill and other leaders want to know who was behind the attack on Greenest, and why the town was a target. The raiders retreated toward the southeast, and their trail is easy to spot. A small, stealthy group could follow the trail to the raiders' camp and gather information. Governor Nighthill approaches you with a proposal.

If youlocate the raiders' camp and find out some information, I can pay you 250 gp apiece. I want to know where the camp is sited, how many raiders are there, who their leaders are, what's motivating these attacks, and where they plan to strike next. If you recover valuables that were stolen from the town, I would like them returned. Recovering treasure, however, is a lesser goal when compared to the other objectives
Oct 3, 2018 3:26 am
Harold, seeing a lucrative future working for this governor, smiled and says, Understood, sir!

He smiles at Bartholomew, and he says, Where dost thou reckon we ought to search first, Sah?
Oct 3, 2018 3:54 am
Kel nods grimly at the Governors proposal. "And what might you do with this information? Surely you won't ride out after them? You couldn't protect Greenest with castle walls?"

No, you are correct, we will not be pursuing the Cultists. But I'm sure the Lord's Alliance will be interested in their activities. They are up to something and will need to be dealt with.

He draws his longbow and stands about 10 feet away from Actaeon, ready to go win fame and fortune!

Kel thanks the Governor, acting, "Great, I'm glad you're thinking of the Alliance. We'll do our best to obtain military actionable information."

He declines to take him up on any mundane items, considering the refugees deprivation.
Oct 4, 2018 4:30 am
Harold gives the governor a laundry list:
- 6 days’ rations for each of us
- studded leather armors for Actaeon, myself, and maybe Kel (if he wants it)
- Bart’s preferred armor set
- greater quality swords/daggers/arrows than we currently have
Oct 4, 2018 11:16 am
Bartholomew would welcome improved armor plus replenish his javelins.

Actaeon overhears Harold talking to the governor about getting items, Harold, don't bother the man about rations- I can easily procure food for us. I am a Ranger after all. The citizens need it more.
Oct 4, 2018 1:42 pm
Harold looks at the man that spoke and ignores him.

OOC:
Gonna roll for the number of sets of armor they find
Studded Leather: 1d4-1 sets
Splint Mail: 1d2 (1 yes 2 no)

The rations are scrounged up and also provided.

As far as weapons go they have at their disposal any item found within the players handbook weapon or adventuring gear table that is 25GP or less. Anything better was either looted or just not present in the town.

Rolls

Sets of Studded Leather - (1d4-1)

(3) - 1 = 2

splint Mail - (1d2)

(1) = 1

Oct 4, 2018 2:02 pm
OOC:
2 sets of Studded Leather are provided and 1 set of Splint Mail Armor.
A young man walks up to you, limping heavily on his bandaged left leg. I hear that you intend to follow the raiders and see where they've gone. I'd like nothing better than to come with you, but in this condition, I'd slow you down. In the midst of all this tragedy, there's no reason you would have heard about the fate of my master, Leosin Erlanthar, but it's important you know. He is a monk from Berdusk. He disappeared last night, after we fought a particularly savage battle against raiders. A few others and I fought our way to the keep, barely. Leosin didn't make it at all. We went back this morning to look for him, but all we found was his broken staff and this choker, which he always wore.

The monk's name is Nesim Waladra. After introductions are made, he continues.

Leosin has been investigating these raiders for months. I fear that he might have tried to infiltrate their group when they retreated, or worse, was captured and carried away as a prisoner. No one understands these bandits better than he does, and his knowledge will be invaluable against them. When you find their camp, please look for any sign that Leosin is there. One of my brothers has already departed for Berdusk to bring back help, but it will be many days before help arrives. Anything you can do before then would be a godsend
Oct 4, 2018 3:31 pm
Understood, son. Thank you. What does Leosin look like? Can you give me a physical description of him? Is there any sign that you have that would have him know we are his friends?

Harold takes his leather armor off and exchanges it for one of the sets of studded leather armor. He takes the 6 days' rations, and if no one else will take them, he will take up to 10. He also takes a rapier, and fills his quiver to have 40 arrows.
OOC:

**At least Harold asks all the right questions, he might be some use after all.** ponders the Dragonborn as he wanders off to try the splint mail on in private.
Oct 4, 2018 9:06 pm
Kel will take a Light Crossbow if there is such on the table, and a dozen bolts. "It perpetually seems a waste not to throw fire at my enemies, but a crossbow attracts less attention at night."
Oct 5, 2018 12:00 am
The young monk describes Leosin as a slender half-elf man with dark hair and a beard. He hands you the choker that, upon closer inspection, is a braided leather neckband with a silver dragon design chased into the leather. The ends are ragged, as if it was roughly torn off. Nesim says this should prove your authenticity.
OOC:
Yes to the silk rope and the light crossbow.
Oct 5, 2018 12:19 am
Kel inspects the crossbow as he listens to the young man. "Perfect. When we find your master, we'll show him this medallion, Nesim."
Oct 5, 2018 12:24 am
Harold takes out his hempen rope and leaves it on the table, replacing it with its silk rope counterpart. He figures the town can use the rope, but he wants lighter rope.
Oct 5, 2018 2:49 pm
Actaeon looks down at his scale mail, then back up, Umm, I think I'm good armor wise. Unless if you happen to have half-plate armor, then please by all means use that studded leather for a guard or to protect one of your citizens. he then paces back and forth as his party members continue to dilly dally.
Oct 5, 2018 4:34 pm
OOC:
Sorry, I misunderstood and assumed that as a ranger you would have had leather armor. My bad, On3_Guy. That being said, Harold probably wouldn't care so much. *lol*
Oct 5, 2018 4:47 pm
OOC:
Haha yeah. Actaeon is proficient in medium armor, and has the medium armor master feat, so he doesn't get disadvantage on stealth checks and gets a +3 instead of a +2 bonus to ac. So he has 17 AC right now wearing scale mail. I absolutely love this feat.
Oct 8, 2018 8:53 am
An elven woman of olive toned skin, and raven hair approaches the group- sporting chain mail, a blue gambeson for decor, and a holy symbol necklace droops from her neck. She speaks in a soft soprano, Governor Nighthill she bows her head, You might recognize me as Serenity of the Greenest temple. I come to ask if I may seek to accompany these mercenaries and provide my healing capabilities to aid in the effort of ridding these lands of evil, and healing our country. she places her left hand on the sheathed shortsword to her side, and her right bears a shield. Strapped to her back is her pack, and a longbow.
Oct 8, 2018 1:10 pm
Yes, Serenity, of course. I'm very sorry for the loss of the temple and the lives that were sacrificed. Nighthill looks to the rest of you, What say you? Will you allow this grieving Cleric a chance to join you and perhaps bring some of these criminals to justice?
Oct 8, 2018 1:23 pm
Kel checks to see if she wears a holy symbol to Tiamat. If not, he says, "I'm sorry for your loss, good lady. Welcome to the team."
Oct 8, 2018 2:48 pm
The Dragonborn Paladin puffs out his chest with indignation. "I do not consider myself to be a mercenary, Ma’am. I pursue this quest to quell the evil that has descended on Greenest. Such atrocities shall not be permitted by Bahamut." He takes a deep breath to calm his anger. "But, of course you are welcome to join us... My name is Bartholomew... not Bart, as some of these reprobates like to call me, but Bartholomew." He offers his hand in welcome accompanied by an awkward toothy grin.
Oct 8, 2018 3:15 pm
"Names, right. I'm Kel Chezersk, wizard." He points at that others. "Actaeon Astor. Harold."
Oct 8, 2018 3:23 pm
Harold looks to the cleric and says, Glad you have you with us, Serenity.

He puts his hand out to the cleric to shake her hand.
Oct 8, 2018 4:29 pm
Serenity smiles at the bombardment of comments, to which she faces the Paladin first, Noted. Tis a pleasure to meet you Sir Bartholomew of Bahamuts Order. You're the one who stood toe to toe with the Half-Dragon correct? before he's able to answer, she quickly addresses everyone else, Tis a pleasure to meet you all in fact. I am Serenity Xil'varis, Cleric of Lathander. she bows, I hope to put the power of my Lords light of life to use.
Oct 8, 2018 4:57 pm
If a gold scaled Dragonborn can blush, Bartholomew blushes. "I failed, Ma’am. There is much I need to learn before I face him again. At least the prisoners were released. That was Bahamut’s blessing."
Oct 8, 2018 5:41 pm
Serenity smiles at the Dragonborn, But Sir Bartholomew, if the prisoners were free, then it was a success. Whether you fell to the man or not, you saved lives. Bahamut is proud of you Paladin, and this city is grateful for you. You'll get him next time Sir. the cleric turns to the rest of the group, What brought the rest of you here? I haven't seen the likes of you around, and you lot certainly seem to handle yourselves better than a common soldier.
Oct 8, 2018 5:59 pm
The Ranger speaks up, As Kel said, I'm Actaeon. My reasons for being here don't matter- as a matter of fact, it'd only put me in further danger if I said anything. Just know I'm a Dragon Hunter, and I'm on your side.
Oct 8, 2018 6:16 pm
With introductions now made...are we ready to move out? Or is there something else you would like to do before leaving?
Oct 8, 2018 7:30 pm
OOC:
Yes boss, ready.
Oct 9, 2018 2:22 am
The raiders' path is easy to follow across the rolling grassland of the Greenfields. A wide swath of grass is trampled down, but it's impossible to determine the raiders' numbers precisely. The path only confirms what characters already know: there were a lot of them, and they were a mix of humans, kobolds, and trained reptiles.
OOC:
Everyone please give me perception checks.
Oct 9, 2018 2:35 am
Kel is a good traveler. With a robust endurance and very little gear, he is likely in better shape after any length of journey than the others, but he is smart enough to not run that in. Instead, he keeps his eyes out for the horde and any rearguard.

Actaeon, Harold and Serenity - As you take a look at the tracks of the Raiders you start to pick up on the fact that many of the beasts footprints are deeper on the retreat than they were on the approach march.

All - You move along for about a half hour when you notice, a few miles off in the distance, smoke from a fire directly in the path of the raiders march.
Oct 9, 2018 8:54 pm
"I hope they aren’t terrorizing other villages now. Let’s move!"
OOC:
Are we on horses?
Oct 10, 2018 2:31 am
Harold follows, finally in agreement with the large dragon-like humanoid.
Oct 10, 2018 3:23 am
"Woe to those who see the dragon, for his nature is foul and uncaring of the lives of mice."
Oct 11, 2018 1:47 am
OOC:
No you are not on horses.
As you approach closer you recognize the smoke to be that of a single campfire. The smell of roasting prairie hens begins to waft your way. It appears a group of stragglers has sought shelter in a low spot between surrounding hills where tall boulders have rotted into a loose jumble.
Oct 11, 2018 10:34 am
Serenity holds her holy symbol in one hand, and points to the Ranger, saying Odigia. She then says, You seem to be the most capable of scouting- this spell will guide your next move. Find out who's there.
OOC:

After observing for a few minutes you discern the group consists of four human cultists and eight kobolds. The kobolds carry their weapons on their belts while the humans weapons are stacked up next to a rock out of east reach.

A few minutes pass and the kobolds take their share of the half cooked meal and move away from the fire. The humans squabble over how to properly cook a hen and periodically make comments about their "useless kobold allies".
Oct 12, 2018 9:27 am
After spying the group out, Harold will sneak back and tell the group what he saw. He says, Sah Bartholomew, you should rush in headlong, while Actaeon and I shoot our foes from a distance.

The humans seem to have placed their weapons togetheroff to the side. I think something magical should happen to those weapons.
We should keep one of the cultists alive, whereas we should kill off the kobolds.

Quickly now.

He walks slowly, stands about 60 feet away, and waits to hear the armor-clad knight rush into the fray before he launches two arrows.
Oct 12, 2018 1:13 pm
Kel unlimbers his light crossbow, double checks its action, and readies his quiver of bolts. He'll follow behind Harold, and get ready to fire when Harold does.
Oct 12, 2018 1:57 pm
Bartholomew listens to Harold but doesn’t seem convinced. "You want me to rush in headlong and fight the entire camp on my own whilst you cower at the rear firing arrows and avoiding combat?"

He pauses as he considers the proposal, then shrugs.

"Sounds fun, Sah. Let’s do it."

Bartholomew approaches as close as he can and then dashes forwards mustering whatever stealth he can.

1d8+3 : (6) + 3 = 9

Nov 8, 2018 2:16 pm
The crossbow bolt sinks deeply into the skull of the cultist and he drops immediately to the ground as he is running.

The kobolds, seeing all the humanoids defeated, lose their gumption and decide to take off as well. 3 dash westward, while the one by Bartholomew heads South into the trees.
OOC:
Bart gets an AOO on 7. All of them dash away and are about 30’- 40’ away from Harold and Serenity to the west off the current map. You can choose to follow if you like or allow them to flee.
Nov 8, 2018 2:39 pm

"Well done team. Someone check the bodies for orders or instructions. Such as where they are heading."

Bartholomew starts the process himself.
Nov 10, 2018 2:11 pm
Kel reloads his crossbow, moves over to the nearest human body, and begins searching them.
Nov 10, 2018 3:31 pm
Harold gives a sideways glance at the pretentious prick that sounds like he is assuming leadership, then goes to collect the arrows he can salvage, checking the various kobolds and cultists for anything else of value or interest.

Rolls

Investigation - (1d20+0)

(7) = 7

Nov 12, 2018 12:16 am
Among the bodies of the cultists you find 28sp. The kobolds have a sack containing pewter candlesticks, some silver serving dishes, and a few religious carvings.
Nov 12, 2018 8:06 pm
Hey Sah, do you know of any significance to these symbols?

Harold brings the kobold items to the Dragonborn, hoping that a shared heritage may be a way for the larger humanoid to identify if these things are significant.
Nov 13, 2018 6:47 pm
Bartholomew looks at the symbols but offers, "These were probably stolen from Greenest, so we should return them soonest, Sah."
Nov 13, 2018 7:42 pm
"You mean return them after our mission, of course. I'd prefer not to run back and risk losing them."
Nov 13, 2018 8:08 pm
"Yessah. It is a matter of priorities, and I believe our mission is more important than returning silverware right now."
Nov 13, 2018 8:19 pm
Kel bows gentlemanly. "We are of like minds on this, sir."
Nov 13, 2018 9:47 pm
Harold doesn't much care, and puts the things in his pack. He looks to the wizard and the paladin: Just remind me to give it all back later.
Nov 14, 2018 1:06 pm
"Let’s proceed. These were stragglers and we must catch up with the main group... Don’t worry Harold, Sah, I will remind you to return the silver."

Dodging both Harolds strikes with unexpected nimbleness, the humanoid counter attacks with his club and then quickly removes a small mirror from his pocket and casts a spell on himself. He is too worried about casting the spell and the club attack is completely ineffective.

Actaeon joins the fray by first casting Hunters Mark on Bartholomew's opponent. He then knocks an arrow and looses it at the same target. Unfortunately the arrow flies wide of its intended mark.

The Guard thrusts his spear with both hands at the Dragonborn in his face. The spear finds a weak point in the Paladin's armor (8 damage)

4 & 5 swarm Bartholomew and attack with Scimitars. The noble Dragonborn masterfully parry's and blocks the onslaught.

6 runs down the embankment and takes the dodge action.

OOC:
This exchange can take a long time so I hope you will allow me to fast forward. Here’s what Bartholomew has decided...

1. Obviously Tiamat and Bahamut are opposites
2. Bartholomew would like to know the head of the cult. Was it the half dragon he fought?
3. Bartholomew is now comfortable granting the wishes of these cultists by executing them. He has given them a fair trial, they have confessed to being the cultists that killed innocents, and they worship Tiamat.
4. His action will be justice not murder and therefore he feels justified.

He turns to Harold. "We shall execute them for the crimes they have committed, Sah, and then we shall be on our way."

To the cultists, "Kneel, this will be painless." Bartholomew raises his sword with the intent to behead them humanely in the service of justice.

He then says, Ranger, where to next?

OOC:
Happy Holidays all!
You press on and about an hour before sundown you come to the end of your trek. The cultists have set up their camp in the hollow of a rocky plateau that’s shaped roughly like a horseshoe. The lower portion of the plateau rises gently from the surrounding land, but it quickly steepens and ascends to a height of 150 feet above the landscape. Boulders form jumbled heaps at the bases of the cliffs. The level shelves and top of the plateau are covered in long grass, and brush and scrubby trees grow in patches.

OOC:
Happy New Year!
The sides of the plateau rises sharply while the floor of the hollow slopes up gradually to the east. The steep sides of the plateau are dotted with shallow caves. Boulders or brush conveniently conceals many of the cave mouths. As you approach closer you see a guard tower standing 20 foot high in the distance at the entrance to the hollow. It is made of rough timber lashed together with ropes and appears to be manned by kobolds. To the east you can see a second tower atop the plateau. Looking past the first tower you see collections of crudely built huts and tents on the lower flat level decorated with animal skulls that. As the land rises up as it leads towards the plateau cliff side it flattens out again and you see another collection of tents. At the far end of the camp on the 2nd Level you spot a tent larger than all the others that is spaced a good distance from the others.

From what you can see, the camp appears disorganized and chaotic. Morale seems high and security lax. If you wanted, you could probably just walk into the camp and nobody would bother you. If you did that there's a risk someone might remember you from the fighting in Greenest. You could also wait till nightfall and try to enter the camp then, but if you're spotted that will be even harder to explain.

What was the charisma roll for, or is that a secret?
"Looks like we found them. The big tent looks promising, Sah."
Jan 3, 2019 6:44 am
The Ranger nods, I think 1 or 2 of us should disguise ourselves and gather intel.
Jan 4, 2019 1:02 pm
"I’d like to investigate, Sah, but I am not stealthy or particularly subtle. Who should go?"
OOC:
Who's still active? I know we don’t receive notifications anymore so I have to try to remember to check posts, and I often don’t.
Jan 4, 2019 2:05 pm
"I am no great deceiver nor do I have any magic that would be of assistance."
Jan 5, 2019 4:16 am
"Sah, in my experience it is easier to hide in plain sight than try to be sneaky."
Jan 5, 2019 4:24 pm
"Well, I'm game. No reward for those who stay home, right?"
Jan 6, 2019 10:40 pm
Bartholomew smiles a toothy Dragonborn grin and nods. "Then let’s go, Sah."
OOC:
I am assuming we are going to enter the camp confidently to avoid suspicion.

My hope is the four of you Bart, Kel, Actaeon, and Harold are all active...between the holidays (which I think slowed down alot of people) and my own work/life responsibilities being significantly more demanding the last couple months, it has been hard..but I am going to be persistent and wish to see this continue. I would like to let Harold and Actaeon chime in before we progress to the camp so I will give a little bit more time.

As far as notifications go...if you are using gmail that is the reason...I had keleth switch me to yahoo and its been working perfectly so far.

OOC:
Just keeping it simple...Andrewgeary and Darkreaver go ahead and introduce yourselves.
Jan 17, 2019 8:31 pm
You see approaching a humanoid figure.
Dressed in simple but sturdy travel clothes he at first appears to be human, though as he gets closer you see slighlty pointed ears poking out from behind his short brown hair.
"Hello the camp, do you mind if I join you?"
Jan 17, 2019 10:16 pm
A figure dressed in dark traveling clothes approaches. His long, black, unkempt hair reaches his shoulders and his face is scarred heavily.
"May I join in as well? There is safety in numbers in these parts."

A tall Dragonborn looks ready to depart. He is talking to two companions. They are located just outside a large camp and the two strangers may have overheard him confirming they were going to stride into the camp boldly, using the established military strategy of ‘hiding in plain sight’.

The arrival of two strangers is unexpected, so he draws his sword. "We do not know you. Are you more stragglers?"
Jan 18, 2019 12:13 am
The man holds his hands up cavalierly, away from the weapons on his hips. "I'm not sure I know what you mean by stragglers, friend."
Jan 18, 2019 12:19 am
Infiltrators, or infiltrated? "Quick question, are you mercenaries looking to join a band of well paying reavers tearing up the countryside?"

Kel is a human, not wearing armour, and carrying a crossbow.
Jan 18, 2019 12:24 am
"I cannot speak for this one," Athas smiles, gesturing to the other newcomer. "But yes."

Athas is also a human, wearing no armor, and carrying a crossbow.
Jan 18, 2019 1:03 am
Is it possible he misunderstood me? "Excellent. So you're interested in rape, pillage, slaughter, and general mayhem all at the bequest of a evil dragon tyrant who will no doubt turn on his followers before their dreams of wealth come to fruition? Great. Initiation into that club is simple. Please place your head on that block and will say a prayer together." He gestures to Batholomew and more importantly Barthomew's axe as he laces his hands together to lead that prayer.
Jan 18, 2019 1:13 am
"While evil dragons do have a fair bit of coin, I do have standards. I had assumed you were offering coin for something I was already here to do." He gives Bartholomew an uneasy eye. "I'm afraid I'll have to decline your initiation.."

Kel smiles, "Well, that was the right answer." He points at the large camp. "Evil reavers bent on destruction." He waves at his own camp. "Heroic freedom fighters saving Faerun from annihilation."
OOC:
Should have foreseen that DarkReaver1998 would be pro reaver, haha.
Jan 18, 2019 1:33 am
Athas puts his hands down. "I appreciate the clarification. While I'm no hero, I do oppose destruction when I can... it's bad for business."
Jan 18, 2019 3:40 am
Bartholomew gives Kel a side glance at the suggestion of further beheadings. It is not a habit of his to offer judgement in such a manner, but on this occasion he literally had no choice. Their captives practically begged for death, and to deny that wish would have been dishonorable. Besides, they were evil, and worshipped Tiamat, a fact that is unforgivable.

But Kel seems to have the matter in hand, despite utterly confusing the strangers with his banter. Bartholomew is a paladin of few wasted words, preferring to focus on action. There is little doubt that reinforcements would be favorable just before raiding a camp where they are vastly out numbered. This must be a blessing of Bahamut. A sign he did good beheading the cultists perhaps.

He sheaths his sword. "Very well, Sah. You may join us, but forgive me should I watch you closely. Few can be trusted in these parts". He turns to Kel. "Sah, talking of the untrustworthy, what happened to Harold?"

Kel scratches his chin. "I don't right know. Seems he lost his nerve at the prospect of being defenseless amid that horde. He muttered something about 'Leaving the kettle on,' grabbed his gear, and headed back toward Greenest. Perhaps he'll deliver the news, but I'm not sure we can count on him to have done so."
Jan 18, 2019 4:16 am
The Ranger simply watches, remaining quiet, and stays on the alert.
Jan 18, 2019 11:04 am
"Well that escalated quickly, I am glad it could be resolved without bloodshed. As for me, I had been a investigator in the city guard, so when this situation started, as many of us that could be spared were sent to asses things and help in any way we can. Though I wouldn't count on meeting any more, we were, by necessity spread quite thinly."

Actaeon pulls out the cultist robe and mask from his pack, and turns to the group, My disguise tactic worked at the windmill in Greenest- perhaps I could utilize it again to do some infiltration, and gather information before we lay waste to them.
Jan 21, 2019 1:43 pm
To Acteon... "Hmmmm, I thought we had a plan, Sah. But if you want to investigate with stealth I’m afraid I cannot assist you there."
Jan 21, 2019 1:53 pm
"Either way, I can accompany you. I'm sure a mercenary is no rare sight in that camp."
Jan 21, 2019 5:22 pm
Actaeon replies, Yes, I know we briefly discussed it, but never formulated a real plan. I strongly think we should gather intel first, and then strike. You lot can hide in plain sight as mercenaries, and possibly cause distraction while I have a peek about?
Jan 21, 2019 5:38 pm
"Just so I understand, Sah... a real plan is my plan but you get to sneak around? Sounds OK to me, Sah..."

Jan 22, 2019 11:07 pm
"I have some experience of remaining unseen, though I must admit I am more used to an urban environment."
Slate ponders a moment.
"What groups then?"
Jan 24, 2019 9:17 pm
"Well, I may be new here, but I do have some ideas." Athas shows his teeth in a crooked grin as his mind turns with possibilities. He points to Actaeon and Slate. "I can only assume you're Actaeon. You're disguise idea is good, and I think you and the Guard should work on infiltrating and gathering information.
He gestures to Bartholomew. "My friend, don't take this the wrong way, but I think you may be the wrong shade to be able to hide in plain sight in this camp." Athas's dark eyes light up. "But, I do have some ink in my bag. If we were to water it down and paint you, we might be able to convince the unobservant that you aren't here to spy on them. You and I could likely pass through without much issue then."
Finally, his eyes fall on Kel. "Now, I'm afraid I don't know enough about your skillset to know where you'd be most useful. It may be beneficial to have someone keeping an eye on things from a vantage point. Or, you could join one of us. But, ultimately, it's up to you."

Maybe set a small fire, with smoke, and billow the smoke twice if you need the others to gather to you, thrice if you need rescuing. And four times if you have what we need and everyone can clear out."

Kel and Bartholomew split from the group and begin to enter the camp. You quickly approach a disorganized looking cluster of kobolds at the base of the watchtower. As you approach you overhear bita of their conversation’s.
[ +- ] Kobold chatter
Feb 11, 2019 12:01 am
The stealthy crew enters the brush on the perimeter of camp and observes the other’s approach from a distance. Unable to hear the discussions.
Feb 11, 2019 4:13 pm
Bartholomew speaks draconic and listens to the kobolds. Interesting that they worship dragons, but he supposes it is not a surprise. But hoping things will be better for them when Tiamat arrives is misguided at best. Not to mention if Tiamat did arrive that would be a terrible day for good and evil. He turns to Kel and shrugs. "Let me talk to them", he suggests in a low whisper.
Feb 11, 2019 5:39 pm
Kel whispers back, "Sure. I can understand them, too."
Feb 11, 2019 8:15 pm
Bartholomew approaches the kobolds as if he belongs. Reassured that Kel can understand everything being said he says in draconic, "Greetings little dragon folk, glorious days ahead, we are indeed fortunate." Without saying much more he waits to see how the kobolds react to another dragonkind.

What’s the yellow marker? Where we are or where the boss man is?
Feb 18, 2019 6:14 pm
OOC:
Yellow marker is where Bart and Kel are currently interacting with the Kobolds. the camp resides within this horseshoe shaped hollow of a plateau. The plateau walls extend up as much as 150 feet. You can skirt the edges and attempt to use the rough boulders and terrain for cover. If you wish to circle around to the back of the camp, you don't have a good look at that yet. as the ground slopes upwards towards the rear of the hollow and you notice the tents begin to get a little nicer as compared to the kobold tents in the lower/entry portion of the camp.
Slate heads south(Green arrow on map) as Actaeon heads East (Blue arrow on Map) around the watchtower at the camp entrance.

--Athas is going with which person?
Feb 18, 2019 6:18 pm
Athas is tagging along with Actaeon
Feb 18, 2019 7:11 pm
Sneaky crew: The tents in the mouth of the hollow are crudely built and decorated with animal skulls. These are occupied by kobolds. They seem rowdy and chaotic at the moment as you observe them while moving amongst the brush on the camp perimeter close to the plateau's cliff face.
Feb 18, 2019 7:23 pm
Actaeon turns to Athas, whispering If we get caught, or anyone gets suspicious, you're my prisoner okay? Unless if we can find you a cultist disguise as well, that plan will have to do. Actaeon continues hugging the plateau, and tries to make himself around the perimeter more.
Feb 18, 2019 7:43 pm
Athas smirks, responded to Actaeon in the same hushed tone. "Noted. But let's try not to reach that point."
Feb 18, 2019 7:54 pm
Bart & Kel: The kobolds all look in Bart's direction but don't respond and go back to their conversations. You catch what you believe to be looks of disdain towards you.
Feb 18, 2019 9:30 pm
Bartholomew says to Kel in a whisper, "Let’s keep moving. It seems our presence here is not viewed as suspicious..." He heads deeper into the camp (to the east).
Feb 18, 2019 9:34 pm
Kel nods to the others, saying, "To the victory go the spoils," in Draconic, and clapping Bartholmew on the shoulder, leads him father easy into the camp.
Feb 20, 2019 7:17 pm
Yellow Arrow: Bart & Kel
Blue Arrow: Actaeon & Athas
Green Arrow: Slate

You move deeper into the camp and pass other groups of kobolds scattered about the lower level of the camp.
They continue to pay you little mind. Eventually the path begins to steepen and slope upwards towards the next level of the hollow. The tents you can see in the distance are in much nicer condition than the kobold tents, sturdier, cleaner, and decorated with painted designs representing dragons. Huts vary in diameter from 10 feet to 25 feet, and in height from 5 feet to 10 feet. (Symbols on the map represent clusters of tents.) A larger tent towards the rear is seperated from the others by an open space. To the North on the plateau stands another 20 foot watchtower. There are still individuals gathered in the second level of the camp but these are humanoids (mostly humans, but various races are spotted). You seem to notice small subgroups of factions that seem to linger together. A mix of mercenary groups and cultists.

Along the perimter there are boulders that help with cover as well as brush that varies from 4 to 6 feet in height that is tough and dense. The steep sides of the plateau are dotted with shallow caves. Boulders or brush conveniently conceals many of the cave mouths.

You would actually...you notice 2 mercenary groups among the various cultist groups. The Blacktalons, a large and well armed group. The wear armor painted black, but badly battleworn, with a splash of white across the chest. The Blue Boar, a group of veteran mercenaries that charge a high price for their services. Their badge is a grizzled razorback boar, rampant on a red, russet or silver field. Their uniform is a dark blue shirt with gold buttons, stiff collar, dark blue trousers and black calf-high boots.

As you continue up the slope and enter the second level of the camp you are able to pick out distinct factions of cultists, Black being the predominant coloring but you also see a decent representation of Blue colors as well. You can begin to hear the odd shouts of people trying to regain order from the chaos of everyone recently returning to camp. You also take notice that the large tent in the rear has a set of guards posted out front and another walking the perimeter.

Their is a lone guard at the tent entrance and while it is not obscured from view, it is not out in the wide open space and more subject to view from passing traffic as this tent is on the perimeter of several other tents nearby (15-20 speration of tents in this area)

Actaeon looks to Athas, Engage, or stealth?
Mar 16, 2019 2:44 pm
OOC:
@Merlin - My apologies for the game having slowed down so immensely, unfortunately my personal life has seen an increase in real life demands that have kept me distracted from posting as frequently as I used to. However, I agree with Im_That_0n3_Guy in that I use this medium exactly as he described. For getting my fix I also find time to play AL online through Roll20. I do not wish for you to leave but if you are having a hard time keeping engaged due to the slow down I certainly understand.
OOC:
@AndrewGeary - I have found that its usually in your best interest to just make a roll unrequested if you think it will be asked for anyway...worst case I just ignore the roll...:) I will make a stealth check for you and then move the scene.

OOC:
WHo else is doing what?

Athas and Actaeon are on the perimeter on the other side of the camp from Slate

Kel and Bart are in the middle of the camp looking out over several groups of cultists and mercenaries and see the large main tent sitting alone towards the rear of the camp. There is also a cave entrance in the back of the camp that seems to have alot of activity of folks coming in and out of.
Mar 16, 2019 3:06 pm
Kel whispers to the dragonborn, "That cave. Bet the green girl is in there? Let's check out the high tent, see if we can figure out their next goal."

He walks with the dragonborn toward the main encampment, trying to be casual, yet mimicking the deference he expects from the cultists.
Mar 16, 2019 3:54 pm
Athas thinks about it for a moment, and smiles. "Let us engage, but let us be smart about it. What sort of damage can you do from here, Actaeon?"
Mar 16, 2019 6:30 pm
Got anything to make a flame? I can set fire arrows upon these tents? Besides that, my arrows do strike true indeed.
Mar 16, 2019 7:00 pm

OOC:
I will say that you all quite easily have noticed that there are an overwhelming number of forces within the camp kobold, cultist, and mercenary.
kel and Bart - heading in the direction of the main tent, one of the guards standing outside sees you coming and raises a hand to halt you, "Identify yourself and state your business!"
Mar 18, 2019 3:52 pm
Kel points to himself then Bart, saying, "Kel Chesersk, Bartholomew. We're mercenaries, hoping to discuss signing on. You look like a well funded outfit, we want a share of the spoils, and we're willing to work towards that. Who do we talk to about that? Figured they'd be big-tent people." He gestures idly at the big tent.

Actaeon pulls out a cloth shirt from his set of extra travelers clothes, and rips the cloth apart, wrapping it around the arrow, and holds it to Athas to gesture lighting it up
Mar 19, 2019 12:53 am
Athas smiles as he strikes a spark onto the cloth. As the fire takes, he looks up at Actaeon. "So far... you're my favorite." He gives the archer space to pick his target.
Mar 19, 2019 3:43 am
The ranger grunts Actually... he puts out the flame, Don't hate me, but I want to try something real quick. Actaeon runs towards the lone guard, and says, Greetings! Are you doing okay alone?
Mar 19, 2019 2:32 pm
Athas shrugs. Well, that was almost fun. He puts his tinderbox to the side, observing Actaeon from the edge of the camp.

He leads them toward the cave.
Mar 22, 2019 3:57 am
As Kel heads to the cave Bartholomew grabs his arm. "I’m curious about the prisoner, Sah." Bartholomew looks carefully at the prisoner. What race is he, how is he dressed, what condition is he in, how well is he guarded etc.
Mar 22, 2019 1:06 pm
Kel looks over, and then turning away says back, "I have a spell to whisper to him over a distance. Anything you'd like to ask him?"
Mar 22, 2019 4:01 pm
Actaeon

"Look buddy, I'm not here to give you a report. I'm on guard duty. Now leave me alone and go find whoever it is you usually report to and leave me alone before you get me in trouble."

Kel & Bart

As you turn towards the cave you see another guard approaching your direction accompanied by two Drakes. He appears to be headed towards the main tent but his eyes are set directly on you two.

The prisoner appears to be humanoid, perhaps of elvish decent but is hard to tell from this distance. He appears to be badly beaten, his clothes torn. He does not appear to be directly guarded. At least not at the moment.
Mar 22, 2019 4:27 pm
Overhearing the conversation, Athas sends a mental message to Actaeon. "I think he needs to die. Shall I do the honors?"
Mar 22, 2019 5:32 pm
Bartholomew looks impressed. "I want to ask him where he is from and whether he needs saving". He says the latter very matter of fact, as if the need for a paladin to save the needy should be obvious.
Mar 22, 2019 5:59 pm
Kel nods and laughs. As the other guard approaches close enough to hear, he says to the dragonborn, "Do you think we're allowed to throw rocks? 1 gold says you can't hit him in the ears."
Mar 22, 2019 11:41 pm
Actaeon sighs, Well carry on then, and tries to just walk into the tent to "give his report". Before doing so, he gestures a thumbs up behind his back towards Athas.

From his hiding spot in the bushes, Athas focuses his mind and reaches out with psychic power, slamming into the guards mind.

Mar 23, 2019 6:18 pm
Actaeon/Athas

As Actaeon moves towards the tent the guard moves to step in front of him quickly, "Hold on buddy, I don't think you heard me right, I said move along." He then clutches the side of his head for a moment before shrugging it off, "What the fuck was that?" The guard takes his spear and now brandishes it aggressively at Actaeon. "Lein! Sondar! One of you get over here!" The guard shouts.

Kel/Bart

The guard approaching you is about to speak when you hear shouting from the far side of the tent. He turns his from the tent and back to you before breaking off and heading towards the tent with the two drakes.

At the same time one of the guards at the front of the tent begins to walk around towards the rear where the noise was coming from.
Mar 23, 2019 7:40 pm
Bartholomew turns to Kel, "Is it possible that’s the diversion we have been waiting for? Maybe the coast is clear to check out the tent now?"
Mar 23, 2019 9:32 pm
Athas grimaces. Perhaps he was a bit out of practice. He sends out another telepathic message, this time to the guard. "Do you think your friends can save you?" He laughs inside the guards head before sending another strike his way.

OOC:

The Guard composes himself and again brandishes his weapon at Actaeon, "You better explain yourself quick buddy or you're a dead man!"

Bart & Kel

The Guard with the two drakes continues towards the main tent as Kel sends his message. You see the figure's head lift and look around, unsure of where the message is coming from. You here a faint reply, "I was captured during the raid on Greenest...I am ok." The return message was labored, as if he struggled to get the words out.

Actaeon & Athas

You two are at the rear of the tent...no entrance on this side...you approached a guard that was walking the tents perimeter.

The guard stands down slightly, "I don't know what the fuck yer talkin about. You ain't nobody that is supposed to be talking up here. Besides, Rezmir aint here, she's in the hatchery. So unles you want to get strung up and shackled like that stupid monk, I suggest you head back to your group and talk to someone there." At this point, the guard that walked around from the entrance has arrived and is standing alongside the one speaking.

Bart & Kel

The tent still has a single guard at its entrance, as well as the guard walking the Drakes. You will not easily get past them.

The half-elf looks stunned at BArt as he cuts his bonds, "What are you doing? The man falls to the ground, clearly beaten and exhausted. He doesn't appear to be able to move anywhere quickly.
Mar 29, 2019 8:08 pm
Athas, seeing the reinforcement from the second guard, ceases his psychic assault. He sends another thought Actaeon's way. "Get out of there while they're giving you the option."
Mar 29, 2019 9:15 pm
Seeing the man isn’t ‘alright’ as originally suggested Bartholomew hoists him on to his shoulder and carries him out of the camp and hides him in a bush. He gives him some rations. "Eat then run."
