VOID AGE Playtest

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

We've already got one playtest planned for Void Age, a sci-fi game based off the same engine that runs 13th Age, but I'd like to get a 2nd one going if there's enough interest.

Void Age is set in the far future of the solar system. Earth is mostly abandoned after countless wars, and humanity is spread throughout the system, often modifying or even replacing their bodies with versions that suit them better. Mega-corps run most things now aside from a few old-style governments, and while disagreements generally don't progress to all-out war, there's always conflict simmering just under the surface. Those that work for the mega-corps live in a near utopia, but those that don't often find themselves clinging onto the darker underbelly of society.

In the middle of this, the Orison have begun to appear through long-hidden jump gates scattered throughout the system, on Titan, on Europa, on Venus, on Earth. The anchors for those wormholes would have had to be built here long ago, before man even attained rudimentary spaceflight. Some hail the Orison as the gods that guided mankind, but the majority see them as a threat, and react with violence. They've been here for a generation now, and still no one knows why.

The exact nature of the adventure could range anywhere from running a secure courier service to ruin-diving in a mostly abandoned Europe to fighting the Orison as a member of SecNet, whatever there's interest in.

I accidentally poosted this in the wrong section, so if you're interested, come over here and join the discussion.

Here's more more details about the types of characters you can play...

SHEATHS (these take the place of races)

Flitter: Your conciousness is uploaded into a small drone, giving you active camoflaguethe ability to fly.
Median: You've had your genome cleaned, but that's about it. There's nothing wrong with being human.
Myriad: You're not just one sheath, you're many that lock together into a vaguely humanoid shape, but you can split apart into a swarm of tiny pieces when needed.
Fury: You're been bred for battle. Your genetic code has been tailored for endurance, strength, and aggression.
Ghost: This sheath is focused on stealth and infiltration. You can jump from one shadow to another with an integrated short-range jump gate generator.
Mentat: You've been engineered for brains over brawn, making you an irreplaceable problem-solver.
Octon: This sheath was originally meant for uplifted octopodes, but with a few firmware tweaks it's usable by human minds too.
Skav: Rats get everywhere, even in space, and that's exactly what the makers of the Skav were going for. A few upgrades like a prehensile tail and a size increase to make you useful were part of the package.

CLASSES

The Adept eschews technology, relying on his ancient martial arts and weapon training to survive.
The Deadeye is an excellent sniper, or an in-your-face gun-fu artist.
The Gatekeeper uses his wormhole generator to make his allies more mobile and turn the battlefield into a death trap for enemies.
The Glitch fights alongside hardlight holo-clones, letting her be everywhere at once.
The Junker is a fearsome fighter who is used to taking on odds that aren't in his favor.
The Nebula uses his nanites to provide support for allies and hinder foes.
The Phage is immune to the vast array of biological and techo-organic viruses she carries, but her enemies aren't.
The Psiblade uses the brute force power of his mind to fight, summoning a weapon made of psionic energy.
The Vector takes a more nuanced approach to his psionic abilities, warping reality with his mind.
The Zerker overloads his numerous cybernetic attachments to be an unstoppable killing machine.

We're looking for one more player for this game. We currently have a Glitch, a Phage, and a Nebula. We've got one player who's gone AWOL, but might be back, so we're looking for a class that's not a duplicate of what we've got; duplicating sheaths is fine.

The story so far...

The group has been contracted to recover a data cache that's crash-landed on earth. Upon arrival, they discover that the data cache has landed in the middle of a hive of wasps larger than they are. Forced to find a safer way in, they head underground, travelling through an abandoned city now home to a tribe of uplifted gorillas.

My sense of priorities is telling me I'm in too many games at once right now, but this description sounds awesome. Is there a booklet available or other source material I could look through before deciding?

Looks so cool. I have wanted to do a sci fi for a long time now. But like Bleak I am worried about getting into a new system...
Sep 20, 2018 8:58 pm
Bleak: It is a playtest so there's no full book available, but if you tell me what you're interested in most, I can send you the materials for it. In the meantime, HERE are the major players in the setting.

Aaron: As far as learning a new system, if you know D&D, you know the biggest chunk of this system. There's some differences, but nothing that would give you a big learning curve.

Could you send me the stuff for the Ghost sheathe and for classes... Probably the Zerker and Gunslinger if possible. Also, I know you have one already, but I'd still like to see the Glitch stuff purely out of curiosity.
Sep 20, 2018 11:02 pm
Bleak: Here you go, your Sheath/Class preview and the Character Creation Rules.

Aaron: I did say one more player, but I'm okay with two if you're interested.

I think I'll throw my lot in, against my better judgement. This feels like too much fun to pass up. I'll need a bit to figure out the character creation, but it'll just be the bits that are different from D&D, so hopefully it won't take long.

Cool! I'm on Discord if you need me (Falconloft#4615), though I am at work currently so might be slow to respond.

There is a 13th Age sheet here on Gamersplane that you can use, and it'll be 90% correct. The one thing I know that will need to be changed is that Void Age doesn't use the score/modifier set; it uses the modifier as the score. So you'll have to fudge the ability scores to get the modifiers to what you want the ability scores to be. If that doesn't make sense, poke me.

I've sent you a request, sounds good.
Sep 21, 2018 3:04 pm
Glad you could join us in this playtest, Bleak!
Sep 21, 2018 3:16 pm
Oh hey Qralloq XD Didn't know you were in it. Glad to be in though.
Sep 21, 2018 7:52 pm
This filled up already?
Sep 21, 2018 8:27 pm
Remnant: Waiting to hear back from Aaron but if I don't, the other spot is yours.
Sep 24, 2018 2:18 pm
@ Falconloft Cool, thanks dude.
Sep 24, 2018 2:33 pm
By the way, I still need to be actually added to the game lol
Sep 24, 2018 8:31 pm
Sorry, was on the road, and couldn't really break away to do anything else, but I'll do that today.

Remnant, looks like you're in, let me know what combo(s) you're most interested in and I'll send it to you.
Sep 25, 2018 1:09 am
Give it to Remnant :) He is an awesome RPer and I am scared to commit to a new system. Looks super cool though!
Sep 25, 2018 2:31 pm
Np, Aaron, but if you change your mind, shoot me a DM.
Sep 25, 2018 5:10 pm
Thanks did you get Bleak also I think he was in line in front of me.
Sep 25, 2018 7:38 pm
I did, but we can do two more instead of one. The original plan was for four anyway.
Sep 26, 2018 12:51 pm
Ah, well keep me on the waitlist in case someone bails or goes inactive I guess.
Sep 28, 2018 7:34 pm
Remnant, I sent you a DM to this effect, but you can go ahead and join if you want. It would be four WITH you. I just need to know what you're interested in.
Oct 1, 2018 8:22 pm
Okay, we again have two spots open. Check the original post, tell me what class/race combo you're interested in, and I'll get you set up with a quickstart guide.
Oct 4, 2018 3:28 pm
My apologies never saw the DM, I got a 5,2 on the roll so would a

Ghost: This sheath is focused on stealth and infiltration. You can jump from one shadow to another with an integrated short-range jump gate generator.

The Deadeye is an excellent sniper, or an in-your-face gun-fu artist.

Work with the other two active players?
Oct 4, 2018 8:27 pm
I think that would work just fine. I'll send you a link to your packet very shortly.
Oct 6, 2018 9:29 pm
Remnant, you should have your packet, just need to confirm you have it. If not, let me know here, or in discord (Falconloft#4615).

I'm looking for one or two players to join this game (details in the original post).

THE STORY SO FAR
A diverse group of strangers was hired by the Boardroom, a major network that often acts as a front for mega-corps that don't want their involvement with certain actions known publicly. They were tasked with recovering a data cache that had been held for ransom by a terrorist organization. The data cache had been pulled from orbit around Earth and grounded in the middle of the Black Desert, one of Earth's former seas.

Half of the group (Fidget, wearing a small rodent-like sheathe, and Prios Bon, the smartest person ever in the history of at least him) survived the trip from their dropship to the cache. Along the way, they were joined by Ilex, trapped in the ruins of an underground city for longer than I can remember because I forgot.

Together, they boosted the cache back into orbit, but upon their arrival back at the orbital they'd originally launched from, they discovered they'd been working for the group supposedly holding the cache hostage in the first place. Forming an ad hoc alliance with a SecNet officer, they're now fabricating an escape from the orbital that started seeming all too real when a group of SecNet security mechs opened fire on them in the landing bay.

WHAT I NEED
One to two players that can post several times a week. You will come into the game either joining the assault on the mechs, or already on the ship as prisoners for some low-level crime (possibly erroneously). Either way, you'll be wanting to escape too, and joining this group IS the best option.

PLAYER OPTIONS
You can pick one of the following classes:
- The Adept eschews technology, relying on his ancient martial arts and weapon training to survive.
- The Gatekeeper uses his wormhole generator to make his allies more mobile and turn the battlefield into a death trap for enemies.
- The Glitch breaks the laws of physics to be in more than one place at once.
- The Junker is a fearsome fighter who is used to taking on odds that aren't in his favor.
- The Psiblade uses the brute force power of his mind to fight, summoning a weapon made of psionic energy.
- The Vector takes a more nuanced approach to his psionic abilities, warping reality with his mind.
- The Zerker overloads his numerous cybernetic attachments to be an unstoppable killing machine.

Each class will come with a selection of sheaths. These replace traditional races in d20 games. I'll be sending you the combinations of sheath/class that I need tested.

If you'd like to combine two of these classes, multiclassing is available, although these rules are not final yet and may result in the character needing to be rerolled.
