All of this makes mark a bit nervous, but hey if it’ll help him get over the strangeness he’s seen and score home some cash he can’t complain!

Nurse Levine then conducts a tour of each floor:
• First floor: restrooms, washrooms, storage rooms and a dining hall. Food is delivered to the dining
hall via dumbwaiter from the basement.
• Second floor: patient quarters and communal area.
• Third floor: examination rooms, Dr. Thorne’s office, Miss Louisa Baker’s office (Dr. Torne’s secretary), and treatment rooms.
As you are shown around you see various staff on the ward, attendants, nurses and a couple of admin staff. Walking around, you notice that the corridors are somewhat dusty and the odd cobweb dangles from the ceiling.

Nurse Levine ends the tour in the communal area on the second floor. A pool table stands to one end, while a table at the other end has a chess set. There are many comfortable chairs. Dr. Thorne is here and introduces you to the other patients.

Celia James (19) Student
Short, round face, with curly blonde hair and deep blue eyes. Shy

Barry Lambert (36) Librarian
Wild and untidy brown hair, thick eyebrows above wide brown eyes, unshaven. Friendly and talkative

Emma Gill (25) Florist
Slender, average height, long brown hair tied back. Appears anxious and tired.

Edmund Newton (27) Former Policeman
Average height, well-built, short hair, clean-shaven. Withdrawn and unhappy

Bernard Rowe (42) Bank Account Manager
Tall, balding, thick mustache, wears glasses. Seems worried.

Karabekian would have talked shop with Barry, the librarian. Also would have played chess with anyone who is interested.

Charlie would probably steer clear of most of these people, but might make small talk with Emma Gill, just to take her mind off of things.

Larry is drawn towards Bernard and tries to strike up a conversation with him, "Hi there, the names Larry. Did you just arrive also?"
Aug 1, 2018 12:30 pm
You don't have a great deal of time to speak to the other patients at these stage beyond introductions though Larry does learn from Bernard that he has been here for five days. Karabekian learns that Barry has a love of Gothic horror stories. JCharlie learns that Emma has been here about a week.
After small talk, you are ushered to your rooms, which resemble prison cells with sturdy metal doors. You are informed that the doors are usually open and never locked, as the patients are not considered to pose any signifcant risk or danger to staff. Once settled, you are free do as you wish, explore the grounds and the communal area is open should you wish to talk further with other patients.

Point of clarification: are there security cameras in or around the cells? I know camera technology exists, but not sure when surveillance feeds became a thing.Aug 1, 2018 7:58 pm

No, nothing like that. True cctv didn't come about til 1942, over 10 years away.Aug 2, 2018 12:03 am
Excellent. Charlie will do a brief walk-about by himself, and avoid drawing attention as much as possible. In lieu of CCTV, he will look for orderlies and their regular behavior patterns, seeing which patients bunk where, getting a feel for the layout of the building, basic recon like that.
Aug 2, 2018 12:48 am
Larry first checks his cell for loose legs or anything he might use if in a jam, then explore the grounds.
Aug 3, 2018 6:43 pm
Charlie gets a good feel for the layout. He notices patterns like a couple of orderlies go round changing sheets in rooms, generally cleaning up, two stand around the stair entrances and the other two supervise where required in the rec room. The atmosphere is actually calm, not what you'd expect from a facility such as this, but maybe it's just the surroundings that make it feel like and asylum.
Larry finds the furniture to be solid, as you'd expect from such a facility. He could probably use a pool cue from the rec room at a pinch.

Karabekian and Marc?Aug 4, 2018 1:23 am
Karabekian also explores the facility, but with none of Charlie's vigilance. The bookshop owner has no intent beyond idly passing the time in solitude.

(In the absence of player comment, Marc will follow Karabekian , exploring the grounds)Aug 6, 2018 5:54 pm
All of you pass the time exploring the grounds and avoiding the rec room. No-one sees anything out of the ordinary.
Soon enough you are called for dinner, a mediocre stew, before retiring to bed.
"The attendants will look in on you every 30-60 minutes to record your behaviour, otherwise you will be left alone for the night."
Each door is left open a fraction, allowing in some light from the corridor. All patients are in bed by 10pm with Dr. Thorne and Nurse Levine doing their rounds.

Charlie will try to get some light rest, but will not allow himself to sleep if he can help it.
