The journey of a thousand posts begins here...

The entrance to Ashen Ossuary is presents itself to you all as it would have on any other day. You all know the place, but at the request of Keleri Deverin, there is something amiss inside, and you've been asked to explore it.

Struuk wrinkles his nose. Aye, I've smelt many a nasty thing in my days, but these sewers are downright awful. the ruddy dwarf says flicking drips of sweat from his brow as his grip tightened around the leather-wrapped handle of his crossbow.
Aug 13, 2018 3:52 pm
Zenol leans on his staff and picks some of the twigs out of his matted hair. "Could be worse Struuk, you could have had to walk behind a sweaty dwarf all day." the elf says with a smile, giving Struuk a wink.

The door to the ossuary remains slightly ajar as the party gathers before it. Nearby, the signs of urban life travel past along the the waters, mercifully unencumbered as they make the voyage away from civilization. Inside the ossuary, the smells and sounds are different. A drier air drifts out, as slight sounds of wetness can be heard. However, all is calm from where you currently stand.
OOC:
When we have at least three people ready to go I'll advance things.
Aug 15, 2018 9:39 am
Ven smiles at the exchange and glides forward into the dark, alert for danger.
Aug 15, 2018 10:23 am
As the group surveys the entrance to the ossuary Janhur spits on the ground and wonders if there will be enough light inside for him to see anything. With a drop or two of elven blood in his mongrel ancestry the sellsword can see in the gloom better than most, but he doubts it will be enough here. The half-elf thumbs one of his many earrings, while his other hand rests on the pommel of his sword. Shaped like a frog, the bronze pommel would have made the sword look comical if it wasn't so effective in the hands of its owner.

"Well, we doin' this or what?"

As Ven moves into the darkness Janhur swaggers forward just a few steps behind.

OOC:
I really don't like maps in PbP, but if you want, I'll go ahead and set something up. Let me know what you'd prefer. Otherwise, I'm just going to jump right into it.
The damp sewer passages have led to a slimy cistern that
stinks of decay. On the northern edge of this circular chamber
lies a pile of burnt bones in front of a scorched tunnel.

You enter into a circular room that is about 30 feet North to South and 30 feet East to West.
OOC:
So, it looks like they've changed out the knowledge skills and replaced it with "Lore". This is where I'd let someone roll waht was previously Knowledge Local or History to glean some information about the place you entered.
Aug 16, 2018 1:45 am
OOC:
Not my strong suit but I'll try it!
Janhur runs a callused hand over his bald pate as he scans the circular room, trying to guess at its function. He studies the scorched pile of bones and peers down the tunnel.

Rolls

Lore - (1d20-1)

(17) - 1 = 16

Aug 16, 2018 2:13 pm
OOC:
This is just for flavor and to throw dice for various things.
" Several years ago a
fire broke out in the vault, burning much
of it to ash and inspiring its current name. "

There are puddles all about the floor, but no significant body of water. In the center of the room is what looks a drain. Everywhere you look is all manner of debris in various states of decay. Gnawed on bones, rusted armor, weapons scraps of rotting food, and so on. Directly opposite from you all is an open doorway.
Aug 16, 2018 3:42 pm
Janhur is no stranger to death and the decay and disease that follows in its wake. Crouching low, the sellsword squints at the tooth marks on the bones in an effort to identify the predator or scavenger. He dips a finger in one of the puddles and sniffs it.

"I wouldn't drink that," Ven suggests with a smile.
Aug 18, 2018 5:18 pm
Struuk snorts. No, I wouldn't recommend drinking that at all. he says with a chuckle, doing his own assessment of the bones.
OOC:
Survival?

Rolls

Survival - (1d20+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Aug 18, 2018 5:54 pm
"I've drunk way worse." Janhur chuckles as he sniffs the liquid on his fingers.
OOC:
Am I able to identify it? And have I learned anything from my investigation?
Aug 19, 2018 2:14 am
OOC:
This is a tricky one because they changed out the knowledge skills. If you were trying to perform some kind of on the spot pathology of the detritus, I'd say that might be Medicine. Survival tends to be related more to things like foraging and tracking. However, if you were trying to identify a creature, that would probably fall under Lore. I'll give a brief description of the stuff int e room and see if that helps, but if you want to roll, just let me know what you'd like to do and throw the dice.
The room is filled with bits of old cloth, carcasses of what look like dogs, rats, and a few other small animals, and a strange collection of metal junk that might not even really qualify as scrap.
OOC:
As an aside, are you moving around the room, or are you just looking through all this stuff as you enter the Ossuary?
Aug 23, 2018 2:25 am
OOC:
Ok, there hasn't been any movement here for a few days so I'm going to push this forward.
As the groups moves into the room, the they notice a quivering mound creeping towards them. It had enveloped something that, from where you stand looks relatively fresh.
OOC:
Roll for initiative
Aug 24, 2018 2:06 am
OOC:
So for 2e, initiative defaults to Perception, yes? Unless someone is doing something else specific?

Rolls

Initiative (Perception) - (1d20+4)

(9) + 4 = 13

Aug 24, 2018 3:34 am
OOC:
That's how I understand it as well. And as luck would have it, we have a tie. I assume that means the monster goes first since it says opponent, but its not clear. It just says "opponent". Technically, the PCs are opponents of the creature, and vice-a-versa. What do you all think? I'm reading this on p. 304 in the rulebook.

Rolls

Perception (to see when I go) - (1d20+1)

(12) + 1 = 13

Aug 24, 2018 12:39 pm
OOC:
I read it that monsters go before players, which i dislike but that's my reading. lol
Aug 25, 2018 12:51 am
OOC:
Ok, so, we'velost a couple players in the short term it seems. I'll just go ahead and start. Will pull punches if needed.
What can only be described a slithering blob slides towards the party, and congeals itself into a sort of appendage, attempting to strike...
OOC:
Its metagaming, but its a playtest, so, you're fighting a sewer ooze.

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+7)

(8) + 7 = 15

Damage, if applicable - (1d6+1)

(3) + 1 = 4

Additional damage, if needed - (1d4)

(1) = 1
