Eberron 5e Wandslingers, interested?

OK...so I have been sitting on this idea since Wayfinder's Guide came out. I think I'm ready to get it going. So if there is interest, I want to run a 5e D&D game set in Eberron. Looking for a group of 4. I'm going to be hard on that number because I prefer smaller groups.

PCs will start at 4th level and MUST fit the wandslinger described on page 43. What this amounts to is actually pretty simple...you have to be able to cast one or more spells with an offensive nature. We would start at 4th level so that, if nothing else, your character can take the Magic Initiate feat. Other options include multiclassing, class options (Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster for example), Racial Subtypes (High Elf comes to mind...others might exist), or Racial Variants (Dragon Marks are either subtypes or Variants, but don't provide the requisite 'attack spell' a PC needs, so don't expect to rely on that) can make a character qualify as a Wandslinger. And the Artificer class from Unearthed Arcana is allowed.

The opening arc of the story will be inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. We will start in Q'barra, in the frontier town of Hope. Home to miners, farmers, settlers, criminals and deserters of The Last War. A band of brigands threatens the town and the sheriff can't handle things all on their own. That is where our PCs come in. And of course there is the uneasy truce with "the scales" that live in the nearby jungle...lizardfolk and dragonborn 'savages' that seem to like nothing better than to eat helpless settlers that wander to far from home.

I'm going to add one more Personal Characteristic to the list also. In Wayfinder's Guide, it suggests a Debt, a reason your character needs to make 200gp right quick. I want everyone to have an idea for that as well. This goes right along with Personality Traits, Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws. There is a list you can pick from in the book, or you can make your own. We will discus it.

So...anyone interested?

Is owning the book a requirement?

I am definitely interested. Would like to play a sorcerer.

Ooh I've been waiting for someone to start an Eberron game because it's a setting I've never played before! Same question as 'Ski: does one have to own the book to qualify?

No...not really. If you know Eberron from the 3/3.5 days, the setting is unchanged. I can update you on any rules you might need. It really comes down to Races and Dragonmarks I think.

Fantastic idea for a game! Just the way you described it was so evocative of Q'barra. I've been devouring Wayfinder's Guide and reading my old Eberron books from previous editions. I'm starting my own Eberron game soon too :)

However, I'm going on vacation from August 13 until the end of August and will be pretty unreliable during that time. So, although I'm dropping a message here to express interest, I won't blame you one bit for selecting someone else. I'm sure you won't have trouble filling the game :)

I will clarify that I am not familiar at all with the setting as I played 2nd edition in The early 90s and only have played 5e since. I could play a background that would help with that lack of knowledge or I would understand if you wanted to take someon else.

If you know 5e...I think we can get the rest figured out. The highlights are simple. Actually, the idea of playing the wide eyed kid who was born in Q'barra who never really saw the war is kind of good idea now that I think about it.

Or even a dragonborn...that could work too.

They are native to the jungles of Q'barra. They are considered ruthless savages, but they can have a culture all their own.

I'm a 5e noob. Listened to tons on RPG plays though. Could I be in on this? I love the Seven Samurai idea, one of my fav films.

I'm interested, always wanted to check out eberron, plus it gives me a chance to try out Fiend Warlock or vengeance paladin if that's allowed.

I am interested in joining, I just purchased the eberron book and it seems very cool. Please keep me in mind if you need another player. I am open to just about any role. Thanks!

Dang! I can’t take on anything else right now. Future considerations?

I love eberon and would love play, but don’t have the brain power for the games I’m in right now let alone another. I’m on the mend though and may brain with it, so if you still need players in a week and I’m feeling up for it I’ll join!

I've accepted or sent invites to the first four people who responded or applied. So if that isn't you, we shall see if those invited join. if not I will move down the list.

If you are still looking for players or a spot has opened up I would like to throw my hat into the ring.

^^^ Same. Depending on the starting level and your general disposition towards Illusion spells, I'd probably roll an Illusionist Wizard. Of course, in game, you never *tell* people you're an illusionist...
