Hi everyone! Glad you're here. Hopefully this will be a good time for all of us.

Use this thread for any OOC banter, questions, etc.

OOC Just a way in advance heads up, I'll be heading to Cali mid Sept to mid Oct, should be able to post/play still but my timing may be a little more erratic (and the days I actually travel on are 100% no guarantee).

Roger dodger. Thanks for letting us know. Whereabouts in California will you be going? I live a short ways north of Los Angeles, in the Land of Abundance known as the Mojave Desert. Behold:

Haha. Norco, so fairly close as far as California goes, I think. Not sure how big that particular stretch fo desert is, but I've been through there a few times to/from Vegas.

Next time you can wave to me as you drive by, lol! Are you going to any of the places that are on fire?
Aug 17, 2018 6:36 pm
Not specifically planned, no, but... (checks fire map) Closest fire is to the south of there, but a few hours away, should be ok.

Hi everyone,

I've created a special subforum related to one of Kija Fen's class abilities. Only she is supposed to be able to see it. I read through the posts on permissions explaining how they work, and I think I did it right, but I want to confirm if any of you can see it??

Thank you!!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to post a quick hello to the rest of the group here (and our honored DM).
I'd been thinking of creating another adventurer from the Cauldron region, was considering make him/her native of Redgorge, since it's a village and we have another character hailing from it we may consider possibilities for common history and other roleplaying opportunities.
What does everyone think about that?

Otherwise, any suggestions as to which class may be a good fit to this already pretty well-balanced group ?
Since we already seem to have all bases covered I was thinking of making either a bard, a ranger or a plain fighter, but I'm open for suggestions.

In any case I'll be putting the whole thing together over the week-end, so should be ready to boogie by sunday eve or monday morn.

Glad to be here y'all

I have all 7 character sheets now, and have just posted the first scene. Let's do this thing.

Quick avatar check before jumping right into the adventure. :)
Aug 19, 2018 9:52 pm
okay I sent my backstory both to Dm and Razlus.
Doing the last equipment check here, and then I should be ready to roll. Literally.

Okay. I think my immediate goal has to be to acquire an agile weapon some how. Esp. as we advance in levels and enemies get tougher. Dealing 1 or 2 hp per hit probably won't cut it after a while.

Noted! ^_^

While we're talking about Twoton character's damage modificator: so if I understand correctly this is a major difference with the 5e damage system, in as much as not being able to add our DEX modifier to Damage rolls for either finesse weapons or ranged weapons, is that correct ?
Damn, that seems to make ranged and finesse-based classes a lot weaker (unless they're rogues with their lethal sneak attack bonus, of course)! But then again, that's in keeping with the older editions as well.

Always wondered why, say, an arrow was so poor in inflicting damage in that game... when you look at the mayhem inflicted on the french knights by welsh longbows during the 100 years war, for example... makes you wonder.

Yeah when I made my character, I was under the mistaken assumption that finesse weapons worked as in 5e where the DEX modifier applies to both attack and damage rolls. But, I'm fine with playing him as is. Until he possibly acquires or get a mage type to enchant him an agile rapier/shortsword I'll just have to be creative about how I can be useful in combat. I was thinking making liberal use of combat maneuvers (according to the DM my DEX modifier will apply for maneuvers I do with my finesse weapons) say to disarm an opponent. Then I can maybe back off and let the tanks do their work.

Yeah I hear ye. I chose a heavy crossbow over the longbow for the same reasons (at least until my character can afford a composite longbow matching his STR mod).
Talking about that, I'm not really sure about the heavy crossbow shooting frequency... I imagine it'd take a lot longer to crank up than simply shooting off an arrow with a short bow, or throwing a sling stone. Also, anyone here can clarify the whole combat sequence system for me? How is this whole "bonus action/short action/reaction" thing in Pathfinder (I had to wrap my head around that one on 5e recently, so hopefully it won't be too different)?

Mmph. I guess I should do some quick reading here while I can...

Hopefully this helps some. Pathfinder is definitely more convoluted than 5e in regards to this:

Oh yes... ! this will prove invaluable in making sense of the whole shebang, nice one, Sailor.
Okay so, if I understand it correctly, it would take me a full round to load my heavy crossbow, which means I can only shoot once every other round. AND it probably means whoever comes close to me while I'm loading the thing gets an attack of opportunity (or basically an attack) and I can't use the AC of a shield.

Yup, heavy crossbows are complicated things indeed...
Aug 20, 2018 6:47 pm
That's correct, regarding timing. However, if you take the rapid reload feat for heavy crossbows, you can drop that to a Move action to reload. Ranged weapons in melee range are definitely not a good thing in Pathfinder, you really need to keep up on things that let you get out of range. Jaqir HAS a light crossbow, but I will be very surprised if it gets any actual use.

Especially at the beginning, unless you use your feat (or one of your feats if you go fighter or human), a heavy crossbow is a rough choice because of the loading penalty.

If you go Ranger, Advanced Player's Guide added in a Crossbow combat style for rangers that opens up a pathway to being REALLY good with crossbows. If you take Point Blank Shot, Rapid Reload (Heavy Xbow), and Rapid Shot you can reload any crossbow as a free action and you provoke no AoOs when reloading your Rapid Reload crossbow style.

mmh I'll definitely think about that. I figured sofar Fhen is gonna focus on being a sharp shooter with his Deadly Aim feat. Then most likely use his warhammer 2-handed for close combat.
But yeah I liked that APG career path, for sure.
Thanks again for the heads-up...!
Mmh, I'll definitely think about that.

I figured sofar Fhen is gonna focus on being a sharp shooter with his Deadly Aim feat. Then most likely use his warhammer, either 2-handed or combined with a light weapon (at higher levels) for close combat.
But yeah I liked that APG career path, for sure.
Thanks again for the heads-up...!
