OOC:
Dont know what qualifies as "dire", or if anyone is in rougher shape, but Vardo is down to 3hp.

OOC:
Actually, Breezy used Healing Light on Vardo earlier, when Breezy took down the bandit. Vardo should be at 6 HP now.

OOC:
I'm feeling a lot better. I think we're still waiting on Falka and Midnight's turn. So nothing to update yet.

OOC:
My turn was a move and a hug. We're just waiting on Falka.
Sep 2, 2018 11:51 am
OOC:
Yes. You're right.
Sep 2, 2018 1:36 pm
Growing only more enraged at the bandit's persistence, Falka whirls wildly into another thrust of her glaive.

Glaive Damage - (1d10+5)

(8) + 5 = 13

Falka thrusts her glaive straight through the bandit's abdomen as he slides off lifeless.
OOC:
One shot! So there are no immediate threats. Midnight does remember that there was that one bandit that was injured in the guard post - whom the party did not fight in the cave. She hasn't been seen yet.

After further exploration of rest of the cave. The party sees living quarters of the bandits down to the south. The injured bandit is hiding in a niche reserved for supply storage. She immediately surrenders. The party may decide what to do with her. There's also the large chest found in Grum chamber to the north.

Other than that there are footlockers of the bandits. But they are primarily filled with clothes and personal belongings and the like that aren't of much value. The equipments that bandits wear and carry are well worn and won't fetch much in trade, except for Grum's ornate greataxe. He seemed to have taken good care of it, though certainly battle worn.

Let me know what you guys wanna do both with the locked chest and the bandit that surrendered.

Final battlemap is below that reveals the entire cave.

Once Vardo is certain everyone is alright, he heads directly for the locked chest. He kneels in front of it and casts a studious eye over the mechanism, hinge plates, and handles looking for any hint of a trap. Reasonably certain the lock is clear, he produces a set of fine metal instruments from his sleeve and inserts them into the locking mechanism.

After a few moments of manipulating the tools inside the lock...
OOC:
Assuming those rolls meet with success...
...he hears a distinctive click, smirks, and replaces the tools inside his sleeve.

"Anyone want to see what old Grum found important enough to lock away from prying eyes?"

Rolls

Perception (trap search) - (1D20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Lock picking (thieving tools) - (1d20+2)

(17) + 2 = 19

The chest is a large wooden chest reinforced with ornate lining of iron. After a thorough examination, Vardo concludes that there are no traps. The large lock is no problem for Vardo to pick. Opening the chest, Vardo sees the chest filled with random assortment of trinkets, jewerly and the sorts - obviously the loot collected by the brigands. A cursory assessment (I'll use your perception roll) gives Vardo the impression that the loot is probably worth around 100GP's. Nothing really pops out except that one side of the inner lining of the chest seems "thicker" than the others.
OOC:
Roll investigation.
Sep 2, 2018 5:29 pm
Keavan wanders over to Vardo and the chest.
"Anything good?"
And helps Vardo investigate the chest.

OOC:
hmmm...

Edit: Rolled before I saw Keavan giving the assist, so I failed to roll with advantage....we'll just take the first roll anyway ;)
"It appears to be all the things these brigands stole from the townspeople. I'd like to suggest we return it to them rather than keep it for ourselves." Vardo notices the bulging side. "Wait. There might be more..."

Rolls

Investigation - (1d20+2)

(20) + 2 = 22

Sep 2, 2018 5:47 pm
Keavan and Vardo proceeds to examine the wooden lining. It's obvious there's a layer of false lining but it is flush and no hand holds to remove it. However, after thorough examination, there is a small camouflaged button on the bottom, when pressed activates a spring loaded contraption that loosens the false lining. wedged inside they find a parchment, a broken wax seal is still largely in tact. Examining the parchment, it's some kind of letter. It's written in a language that ostensibly resembles common but the phrasing and the words are all odd as to make it seem like jibberish.

Vardo, immediately recognizes this as thieve's cant.

twotonkatrucks sent a note to Tsavo
OOC:
Tsavo, as a rogue I assume Vardo knows thieve's cant, though you didn't indicate this on your character sheet. Nevermind, you noted it in feats.

Yohna slings her bag off of her back, seeing the surrendering bandit, and rummages through until she locates the coil of rope inside. "Make sure she doesn't go anywhere," She says, putting her bag back on and beginning to approach the woman. "We can bring her back to town. It's up to them what they do with her." The cleric will attempt to tie the bandit's hands behind her back, checking for any concealed weaponry as she does so - Albeit in an incredibly cursory manner, little more than a quick glance up and down. The fight had her quite worn out.
OOC:
Way to ruin that streak of amazing rolls, Yohna.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+5)

(1) + 5 = 6

Sep 2, 2018 7:37 pm
Yohna takes a cursory look and nothing seems out of the ordinary, though as she does so a mosquito flies into her eyes. She's temporarily blinded and her left eye is a bit red and puffy.

The bandit is secured with a rope. She seems resigned to her fate and sits quietly with a hint of resolute defiance on her face.

"The Constable should be able to get most of this stuff back to it's rightful owners."

He sighs a little, contemplating the likely fate of these bandit's victims.

"Or their next of kin at least."

"You follow any of that? So we have a lead?"
Sep 2, 2018 8:29 pm
Vardo pauses after reading the note. Keavan's questions snapping him from his contemplation, he responds, "Yeah. It's easy enough to follow, albeit crudely written."

"Here," he hands the not to Keavan, "It says,"
OOC:
Content of the letter translated.

Your request has been deny. The boss needs you to travel to Red Larch post-haste. You'll act as relays for communication with our contacts there. We have received words from our contacts that there's been some rumored sighting of masked individuals. You know what that could mean. Although, we may be allied with them, we must be vigilant. We have also reason to believe Aerisi's men may have also recruited a contact in the area. Gather intel on what they may be up to in the area. Of course, you may do as you wish to acquire "personal funds". We only ask that you practice discretion as not to attract too much attention from the authorities or the "others". As the saying goes, "discretion is better part of the valor". So gather a small band of men around you and leave as soon as possible. May the Prophet bless your deeds.

Your brother in arms,
Holger
"Thoughts?"

OOC:
Vardo happily translates the note for any/everyone (as many times as needs depending on the rate of the group getting back together in one place.
Sep 2, 2018 8:40 pm
OOC:
We can just assume everyone has heard the translation at some point.
Sep 2, 2018 8:53 pm
"Masked individuals? The Prophet?
Keavan thinks over the implications.
"It seems the half orc was more than a simple bandit, and these other poor schmucks were his cover."
Keavan seems lost in thought again.
"It seems we will have to be careful who we talk to about this as well, we don't know who these contacts it refers to are."
