You can, but since your initiative order comes after the shadow, readying action won't be any different than going on your turn unfortunately.Everyone please roll perception check as you guy go down the passage. I'll assume the party will throw the lighted rock in front of them seveeral feet as they travel down.

As the party travels down the passage carefully, with their eyes peeled, Keavan, Vardo, and Yohna spot the shadow attempting to sink down into the darkness. The creature does not seem to be in good shape.

Seeing the shape in the shadows, Keavan follows it, closing the gap as much as possible.Then launches a firebolt at it.

Keavan's arcane bolt pierces through the fell creature. At the same time, Vardo's arrow drives through the creature's facsimile of a head. It gives an unearthly, hollow gasp as it can't hold on to its form and dissipates.
Keavan can see a small cavern up ahead with two iron chest resting on the floor.

Vardo slings his bow and saunters over to Keavan. "I have some skill with traps, it's true. But it isn't my forté." He begins examining the immediate area as he says, "I know a guy in Waterdeep who can practically smell them, but I'm apparently nose blind."

While Keavan and Vardo examines the chests, they hear a mechanical grinding sound and click. A cackling voice reverberates through the cavern as pile of rocks and rubbles fall upon them.

Hearing the voice and the beginnings of a rumbling noise, Keavan attempts to leap backwards, away from the chests.

Having gotten into more trouble than he would care to recall in his dealings with traps, Vardo had grown accustom to reacting defensively when hearing mechanical whirring especially when accompanied by a click. He immediately falls backward and rolls over a shoulder to come up to his feet a few paces from where he previously was.

Vardo and Keavan nimbly move to avoid majority of the impact. The rockfall dents the iron chests but they remain in tact.
Also, everyone receives 33 XP. This should put everyone at 150 XP if my calculations are correct.

Vardo dusts himself off after being helped up. He tosses Yohna a quick nod of gratitude for both the hand and the concern. "I hate traps.." he mumbles.
