"I am not against a stealthy approach, though if we go that way, I has better stay at the back, chainmail is not quiet."
Oct 22, 2018 11:13 pm
Vardo hoists his rapier and gives a couple quick flicks of his wrist relishing in the sound the blade makes cutting through the air. "Shall I scout ahead again, or will we go as one?"
Oct 23, 2018 1:16 am
Breezy figures that those who inhabit these caves already have heard them coming, so stealth is not really on the menu. He clutches his light stone on one hand, while moving slowly along with his crossbow at the ready.

OOC:
Is everyone okay with just marching in?
Oct 23, 2018 5:41 pm
"If we choose to be quiet about this, I shall hang back with Keavan. Likewise, stealth is not one of my many talents. However, I believe it would be worth considering the idea of simply weathering whatever storm awaits us on the other side... I fear we are running out of time."
OOC:
I'll defer to the party's judgement on this one.
Oct 23, 2018 5:49 pm
"I would favour speed, I too fear we have little time."
Oct 23, 2018 5:55 pm
"Now is not the time for stumbling around in the dark... literally or proverbially. Let's just set eyes on whatever the threat is, then we can get to cutting it into bitesize chunks."
Oct 23, 2018 9:28 pm
"I'm ready. Let's go."

Seeing the seemingly unanimous decision to forge ahead, Yohna will take her spot in the marching order and mutter a quiet prayer to herself as they begin to proceed.
OOC:
Realized Guidance can be added to Initiative checks, so I'm casting it on myself.

OOC:
Happy to march ahead with our last order.

OOC:
Ditto. Breezy takes a position toward the rear, light in hand, crossbow ready to be lifted and used.

The passage is dark and damp with uneven footing. It eventually winds westward and as it does so the party can see that the passage opens up into an enormous cavern illuminated by several guttering torches set in sconces on the walls. The floor is uneven, and the ceiling is forty feet up.

Three flat boulders near the passage serve as a kind of grotesque autopsy table. Severed body parts sit in baskets by the slabs, covered in dry gore. Two figures in dark hoods stand over the third table. One holds a bloody handsaw, the other holding down a barely conscious, bloodied human lying on the table. You recognize the face... Harlo!

Farther to the west, a stone stair climbs the north wall, ending near the ceiling. A stone slab like a counter juts from the wall across the room from the base of the stairs. It holds saws, knives, and other tools. There's a wild eyed human with bristly beard sitting at the slab polishing the tools. You recognize him as the fortune teller. Without looking up, the man begins talking

"Before you do anything rash, know that I hold all the cards here. One word from me and the man you've come to rescue will join me in undeath."
[ +- ] Cave - Large Cavern
OOC:
Oops, the map has a small error. Both hooded figures are by the western most slab.

Keavan mutters to the others."Well, damn. Now what?"
Taking a couple of steps out into the cave
OOC:
(L,L)
, Keavan replies.
"What then would you have us do, if not something you would call rash?
This whole circumstance seems rather rash already."

Midnight shuffles quietly up toward the front of the group, standing just behind Keavan and peeking around his legs so that she can see what's going on in the room.
OOC:
I'm going to ready an action to magic missile either or both of the hooded folks if it looks like they're going to stab Harlo to death or otherwise cause him physical harm. We need to get a bit closer in general and have our situation hashed out a bit more before Midnight is close enough or feels secure enough about Harlo's safety to act.

Vardo takes in the grisly scene. Slowly lifting his eyes to the crazy human in the stone chair, he says, "Anything rash?"

He pauses and casts a meaningful glance about the room. "Is this the evidence of what you would called measured, thoughtful actions?"

As he speaks he pushes into the room and skirts along the right most wall.

Breezy readies his crossbow, targeting the first hooded figure next to Harlo. Any movement to harm the fellow will trigger his attack.
Nov 23, 2018 10:41 pm
Yohna sidles up as close into the room as she can get, but remains behind the vanguard, more afraid that she herself will lash out if she's given half the chance. Her fists are balled so tightly her knuckles have drained of colour, and she glares daggers at the two figures. One hand creeps up to clutch her amulet as she stands by her comrades to strike.

"Explain yourself, abomination."
OOC:
Readying Sacred Flame on the same conditions as everyone else.

Falka approaches to the front of the group, but lets the others lead the conversation. She stands tense, glaive drawn, growling like a beast ready to pounce.
OOC:
Readying an action to charge in and attack the closest one on the same conditions.

"Petulant fools! You seem to think you have power to negotiate. You have two choices. Lay down your weapons and beg for mercy before the Lord of Lance Rock! Or join this farmer as an undying servant of the Eye."

The man - who both Keavan and Breezy now recognize as the fortune teller - gestures to the hood figures as one brings down the handsaw toward Harlo's throat. The other lunges towards the party - the cloak falling from its body, revealing a grotesque figure with disproportionately long limbs. Its face has vaguely elvish features however its eyes are milky white, skin, pale bluish color.

The fortune teller runs off deeper into the cave as the chaos ensues.
OOC:
Anyone with readied action can take them now. Then roll initiative.

Rolls

Hooded figures - (1d20+2)

(19) + 2 = 21

Nov 28, 2018 6:32 am
Midnight lets out a tiny battle cry as she angrily fires three glowing blue bolts of energy at the hooded figure endangering Harlo.

Rolls

Magic Missile (3 bolts; auto hit) - (1d4+1, 1d4+1, 1d4+1)

1d4+1 : (1) + 1 = 2

1d4+1 : (2) + 1 = 3

1d4+1 : (3) + 1 = 4

Initiative - (1d20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18
