Hello all, I've seen a couple games like this in the past and I want to see if there is any interest another. The concept is a Men In Black/Hellboy style of game where the fantastical creatures of D&D exist in the mundane world, obscured from normal folk through a combination of low quality illusion magic (glamour, which loses its power on someone the further exposed to magical sources they are) higher quality illusion magic (expensive), and remaining hidden from outsiders. The PC's will operate in an agency working with the various races to police and neutralize rogue entities, ensuring mankind never learns of their existence. The exact setting would be Los Angelos about 2003. While the setting is modern, the enemies present will still regularly rely on the weapons and magic of days long gone. Please note this is my first time GMing a campaign.

I would like to run it with the Modern Handbook, and will allow any of the options presented in it, plus the additional rules/options for the modern day adventures. I'm very tempted to use the variant rule for guns where they use 1 damage dice because without it I fear melee characters may lag behind, however I am not going to shut it down if everyone is fine with that. Otherwise all official material and UA can be used to create a character, we can further discuss backstory details later. We will start the game at level 4.

Ideally I would like to recruit 5 people, new players are very welcome. As far as posting goes I'm looking for about once a day.

Interesting!

So an all-human party? Or would the various non-human PC races also be incognito and therefore be eligible as agents?

All races would be available, humans and humanoid races (elf, halfling, etc) would generally be easier to explain but anything is fine given a good backstory. Perhaps a lizardfolk lived in isolation until discovered by an agent (toying with names, I like Lock & Key), an ancient warforged awakens from centuries of dormant sleep, a normal man is kidnapped and magically transformed into a kobold. Something happened that would open their eyes to the fantastical.

Any newly 'awakened' entities would be monitored for integration into the appropriate society, or if they show promise: candidates.

I've always wanted to play a gun-kensei myself! :-) But somebox said he is considering nerfing firearms in this game.

I'd definitely be up for playing a Warforged with one of the techier casters.

This seems interesting. I love the hacker Warlock class. I'm experienced but this would be my first time with the modern handbook. If that's ok, and you still have room, I'd be interested.

somebox says:
all official material and UA can be used to create a character
Including UA: Modern Magic?

Yep that will be fine, might need to iron a few details out but its reasonable.

I'll go ahead and start preperations for the thread today, that fills up all the slots so all of you will get an invite.

I would love to take part in this if you still have some space! I have been thinking of playing a Gypsy Tabaxi...thinking up a backstory/ explanation for it as I type this... (No pressure Kyle... Hurry up, you need to come up with something...) Perhaps they we all humans, camped in Chernobyl for a little while in an attempt to hide from someone pursuing them and their group had each mutated differently... Or died.

I am in need of two new members to join the game, if you expressed interest before or are looking for a game let me know.

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
