While restraining the hobgoblin, you notice he has a pouch with 25 GP on him. Prowl spots something similar with Ulgrik: 30 GP, and a strange bracelet which is practically emanating with magic. It isn't long before a van shows up, "Squeaky Cleaners" is prominently displayed on the doors.

Its an uncomfortable trip back to HQ with everyone crammed in the van, but at least the traffic is dying down. When you arrive the goblinoids are taken to the holding cells, and the party is back in the briefing room with the commander, who has been silent for the last minute as he ponders his next words. "Ok, so maybe you can handle yourselves. This is good, because I'm assigning this case to you." He slides a folder across the table toward Rodrigo, inside is a few sheets listing the current evidence. "We need to find out what both sides are up to before this escalates any further, last time we had a goblin war was 20 years ago, we don't need another. Also, I'm taking the liberty of allocating different members for this squad, they are around here...somewhere. And don't come crying to me if you aren't happy about it either. Lets get this done people." He promptly exits the room, so does Naji, Tremor, and Jericho.
OOC:
Arcana to identify the bracelet, if you want Jericho to do so or roll with his stats he has a +6. I'm also putting Jericho on hold because cosmic has been missing for a while. As for what to do now you can choose to interrogate any of the prisoners, there a few items of interest the cleaners recovered, or if there's something else you have in mind go ahead and ask.

Jabes, Campeador you two are now Level 5 and have each received 100GP for your efforts. Sane magic item prices will be used as a baseline if you wish to save up for any, you can choose to just let me know what you wish to buy or we can RP it.

Jericho examines the bracelet before he leaves.

PROWL is still in snake form, which drew quite a few alarmed reactions from people at HQ.

Rodrigo is pleased when the Director slides the folder over to him. He takes this as a sign his leadership has been recognized. A pity some of the squad members are being reassigned. He studies the file while waiting for the new members to show up.

The tall, tanned man with long black hair walked into the briefing room with a neutral expression on his face. He wasn't sure how this would go but he knew it was necessary. He nodded to the human, stared at the giant metal snake thing, and sat down.

"I'm Kolinahr Zhiantara, one of the crisis negotiators. You can call me Cole."

The others might know of Cole's skills from recent potentially violent situations and emergencies that could have led to exposure that his expertise helped defuse. He sat quietly, waiting for the two to respond... if the giant metal snake thing could speak.

Rodrigo stands to shake Cole's hand firmly. "I'm Diaz, unofficial squad leader.* We haven't formally met, but I know you, and I'm sure you know me. Glad to have you on the team. This is Prowl, as you are no doubt also aware."
OOC:
Again, this isn't me being bossy, just me roleplaying the character's ambitious nature. I won't mind in the least if someone challenges him.
Oct 17, 2018 8:45 pm
Cole shook Diaz's hand.

"Good to meet you, unofficial leader," he said, "but does Prowl have a humanoid form?"
Oct 17, 2018 8:59 pm
PROWL continues to regard Cole with an unblinking stare for several long moments before finally shapeshifting to humanoid form. The warforged nods to the newcomer silently.
Oct 17, 2018 9:11 pm
The others saw Cole become more comfortable once the warforged shifted its form.

"Any idea who else will be joining us?"
Oct 19, 2018 4:41 pm
"No idea. But the director said 'members' so there's at least one more coming." Rodrigo glances at the clock impatiently. "What the hell is taking them so long?"
Oct 24, 2018 7:04 pm
The lights of the briefing room flickered, then turned to a pale silver. It was obvious that this was a Thaumaturgy parlor trick when shortly after, a somewhat beefy tiefling strolled into the room. Adorned in retro chainmail and holding a sledgehammer, the nearly all black creature spoke, his words dripping with bravado.

You are all in the presence of the Jersey Devil. Hahaha! Can you believe that those clowns on the news equated my heroic acts to the tricks of an overgrown imp?! ... Anyway, it gave me a good enough reason to take "Jersey" as my virtue name. Ah, guy with the folder, what's your deal and where are we heading off to?
Oct 24, 2018 7:33 pm
"Good of you to finally join us," Rodrigo says dryly. "I'm agent Diaz, acting squad leader. This is Prowl, and this is Cole.
Goblins are drawing too much attention to themselves with their tribal infighting. Director wants us to look into it. Gear up. I expect our handler Isabelle will be along shortly with more specifics."

"Acting" is certainly what you're doing. I didn't believe that you're the squad leader for even a nanosecond, Big D.

With a wink at Diaz, Jersey flipped back his long hair and sat, kicking his feet up onto the table.

I already "geared up." What do you think took me so long to get here? I'm straight off my last assignment and have been cleaning chunks of goblin brain out of my chainmail.

With the kind of smile only a snarky douche can muster, the tiefling leaned back in his chair.
Oct 25, 2018 2:07 am
Cole resisted the urge to use his arcane reach to tip Jersey's chair over. Sometimes pain was the only effective teacher a snarky douche can learn from.

"Do you really go outside... dressed like that? Do you at least wear a trench coat over it?"

Cole knew well the ceremonial dress of his Old People and the dozens of races that had survived into the modern era but he preferred leather and Kevlar to retro armour for everyday wear and his work attire.
Oct 25, 2018 3:10 am
Without so much as a glance in Cole's direction, Jersey quipped,
I can't exactly go outside looking like the devil either, now can I? So what difference does it make when the magic covers it?
OOC:
Feel free to tip Jersey on his ass. I'm playing the "hotshot rookie" archetype with him, so don't worry that I'll have him attacking the party over small transgressions.
Oct 25, 2018 3:18 am
"You know, it's called being 'infernally inclined' these days," Cole said with a sigh then pointed distastefully at Jersey's weapon, "and you hit people with that thing?"
OOC:
Cole would only think of tipping the chair over. Actually doing it would require far more provocation.
Oct 25, 2018 5:57 am
Rodrigo's mouth quirks but he doesn't take the provocateur's bait. He fixes the tiefling with a gaze and says, levelly, "Well, if you intend to fill the role of squad mascot you are off to a great start. But I bet you're much better than that so I suggest you leave your attitude at home. We have a job to do, so everyone better get with the program."
Oct 25, 2018 6:02 am
It was Cole, right? See, Cole, your people decided to come up with a term that they were more comfortable with, and now we're labled as "infernally inclined," as if "devil" or "hellborn" was inherently negative. But I know who I am. I'm the devil that saves a bus from crashing when kobolds cut the break lines. I'm the hellspawn who drives off the wererat muggers before their victims become a meal.

Standing abruptly, his chair shot backwards out from under him. Lifting the 5lb sledge, he continued:

And I do it all with this. Picked it up on a construction site when I saw a pimp beating on one of his girls.

Jersey flashed a genuine, eager smile at Cole.

He'll never walk again. She got on a bus for North Carolina. Left the pimp's cash back where I found the hammer, figured it should cover the cost. Was on my own, patrolling the streets until LOCK picked me up. Gave me a better way to use "Hell's Grace" here.

He caressed the hammer then lowered it to his side, the 18 inch handle keeping it from colliding with the floor as it swept back behind him. The tiefling hooked it under the arm rest of the chair and pulled, sending said chair toward his backside. Reaching for it with his free hand, Jersey found the means to sit back down.

I take a lot of pride in my work.

"There. That's much better. We take pride in our work as well. We'll make a real team yet. Welcome, Jersey."

Diaz shares the folder's contents with the others while they await further instructions from Isabelle.

"Kolinahr Zhiantara, yes; and no, Jersey, not my people. I only look human, remember that. We Kalashtar are far from human."

The tiefling was grating on Cole's nerves. It usually took quite a lot to do that, especially with his specialty. He took a deep breath and centered himself. With his anger subsiding, Cole tried to meet the devil halfway.

"I look for a more peaceful solution first... but I can understand your point of view. I hope we can find common ground and work together effectively, Jersey. You can call me Cole. What's your real name? And why the chainmail?"
Oct 25, 2018 7:00 am
I didn't say human. "Your people" means everyone who can walk the surface without raising suspicion on looks alone. To most of the guys you're gonna bring down, that's all that matters. Just something to keep in mind.

Jersey gave Cole a wink and a gun.

Oh, oh, oh, you're the hostage man! I thought I'd heard that name before. Well, you do your thing and if it breaks down, then I'll rush in and do my thing... As for my "real" name, you're gonna have to be content with Jersey. The Infernal doesn't translate and your tongue won't be able to make the sounds required to say it, but here ya go.

A horrifying sound emanated from the tiefling, then he proceeded as if nothing odd had happened.

I'm into embracing my heritage. This is a family piece and I've been told by three different ladies on separate occasions that I look striking in it.

Moving into a position to see the contents of the folder, Jersey acknowledged Diaz.

Sure, thanks.
