I've been working on a system for the past six years, because my old gaming friends had a problem with what was available, and I like writing just that much. I know I've brought this up before in a very old and dead thread, but I'm here today to announce some very, very good news. I will be starting my first official playtest of my system, currently under the working title of Oldest World, this coming September! No exact date set at this time.
What I expect is that setting this up will take some time, and will take a lot of explanation. We may gain and lose a few people before the game even starts. Because of this, I would like to get in ahead of the curve, and start the process a week early. Here's what I need:
- About 5-10 people who are interested in trying something new, and have experience with at least one other system. Even if you've only played a couple of sessions of D&D, that's just fine. As long as I don't have to explain how tabletop/PbP games work to anyone. The reason for the large number is that I fully expect some people will drop off as we go, for any number of personal reasons related or unrelated to the game itself. That's just how recruitment tends to work.
- I tend to be on every day between the hours of 6:00 PM - 2:00 AM EST. Because of how this site works, that is not terribly important, but if you expect prompt responses from me outside of that time, prepare for disappointment. I would like players who, whatever their availability, can be on Gamers Plane at least twice a week, for no less than 10 minutes at a time. Ideally, you should be able to check the playtest once per day within the time that I'm on, but that is NOT a requirement at all.
- If you have not played roleplaying games before, or you check the site very rarely, I welcome you to join, but I'll be handling you separately from the others until we can figure out what works best.
- If you have a character from a fantasy game that represents your preferred style of play, please bring it so I can get a feel for the sort of character you want to be. Even if you end up trying something totally new, your old hats will be really good fuel for my creative fire (please ignore the possible metaphor here for burning your character sheets hehehe)
Finally, and most importantly: players who participate in this playtest need to know a few things. This system is woefully untested. I've played with older variants in the company of family and friends, but the current incarnation is totally untested. Please be ready to comment in and out of game, bringing your critique on how the system works, and the clarity of my explanations. Please try to be kind to me and the other players, because I do want this to be enjoyable, and I don't want to ban people for being assholes. Because this is something that I do not want stolen, and hope to make a little money off of someday, I will ask that everyone who participates read a quick blurb about who owns the rights to the system, and agree to my terms of use. Everything will be spelled out clearly, and there's no complicated legal jargon or money-related nonsense. This playtest is totally free of any fees or fines; you do not have to pay anything at any point.
Just know that this is my baby, that I've spent the worst years of my life working on, alone and unpaid. Stealing its contents for yourself would be a god-awful thing to do.
