Mouse Guard (1st or 2nd Edition) - Interested?

I would love to run a short Mouse Guard game to test out the rules, and get some flavor for the game. I'm thinking probably one short mission.

If the game ends up being what I hope it is, then I'm certainly open to running a longer game. I would probably be hoping for a 3/week posting schedule with a well-rounded patrol including different ranks. I would want a Tenderpaw and a mentor / Patrol Leader combo for roleplaying due to the PbP platform. I think it would make for great roleplaying. I'm happy to run an NPC with the group as well if interest for one over the other exists.

Shot in the dark, let's see what's out there.

Never played and don't have the book, but I took a look at it once when I was in a bookstore. Mouse Guard looks like so much fun! If you're having trouble getting more experienced players, let me know and I can jump in as a noob.

I'm actually a veteran FAN of the system, but frankly never played or run it. I feel very comfortable with the rules and have a pretty good handle on the new version. I'd prefer the 2nd edition rules, as it streamlines some of the bits and pieces, but open based on players and interest.

Let's see what come up for interest, but either way glad to see you here.

We tried it here at least once. The flavor and tone of the game was absolutely amazing. I loved it. However, combat really bogged down as there is a back and forth negotiation and planning that did NOT work for us in pbp. What would take only minutes at the table could take days or weeks in a forum. Maybe 2e streamlined it.

Loved the game though and would like to play it IRL.

Good feedback. I wonder if it would be worth trying the game with the setting material and flavor but using a different system... Been digging FATE Accelerated, but maybe because of the skills etc. FATE Core would be better for this one. IF the system fails that is... I'd be willing to give the system a tried and true go, then if it bogs down to keep the option open to switch systems.

Hence, looking to try a one-shot. If it works, great. If not, options would be there.

I actually just recently got the 1E rulebook (used, $12 @ my FLGS). Haven't made it through the rules yet, tho I know it's combat system is a very much watered down version of Fight!, etc. in Burning Wheel, but just like BW In wondering if you couldn't just reduce such an encounter to "normal"style of Tests/rolls.

Regardless, I'd be interested in giving it a shot.

I love Mouse Guard. I've run it (2e) at conventions, but never long form play. I'd love to give it a go on pbp.

Looks like there is a fair bit of interest here. I have both the 1E and 2E books. Any preference from those here?

I'm fine with 2E if you're fine with me not having the core :)

Assuming it's still reminiscent of 1E, I don't think it would give me much troubles...

It's actually fairly close. It streamlines character creation a little and actually recommends playing pregenerated characters from the book on the first adventure prior to rolling up your own.

I would actually be okay with either or a mix of the two. If there is a pregenerated character (Sadie, Kenzie, Saxon, and Lieam for instance are in the 2E book).

Technically... we have four people interested in the game and four pregenerated characters.... fate ordained? I'd love thoughts on this, or a mix of pregen / original characters. Considering this is geared towards being a one-shot to get the system down and see how it works on PbP, I'd be down with either. If we end up wanting it to be a longer game we may decide the setting is good, but that we would benefit from a different system (based on feedback so far). I'm open.

Thoughts, feelings, emotions? :)

I would like to go with 2e. And pregens works just fine. If we decide to go for longer, I would like to make our own characters, but for a one-shot to see how it works over PbP, I think pregens are the way to go.

My vote would be for 2E with pregen for simplicity as well. If this takes off to a more regular thing, then of course I would prefer more individualized approach for characters so that everyone plays exactly what they want.

Is this thing going to happen? I'm excited for it.

Alrighty then, it's settled. This thing is happening. I'll post the game and send the invites to you all. I'll try to get a DropBox Link setup so that I can share character sheets and resources with ya'll if that works? I'll have the game posted in the next day or two tops.

Game invites sent. I'll build some of the backbone and finalize story bits for the one shot and post by Tuesday night with final pieces.

I'm excited to play this. I wasn't sure I would be (I'm pretty busy), but I love the world so much.
