Being outside the fighting pits is taking more getting used to that Kossk originally thought.
A lot of bodies, pressed in tight.
But there is one thing from the pits that is universally important.
VIGILANCE
Kossk is making sure his large slit-pupiled are taking it all in and looking for trouble.
Trouble is also the same outside the pits.
Just, with more clothing on.
And, less obvious weapons.

Altorn directed Kossk to follow at distance.
Kossk is.

At Altorn’s question Kossk answers, "All is well. We must keep moving."
OOC:
Altorn knows the contact so I’m just keeping my eyes on the crowd. City of thieves and all...

"S-sorry?" stutters Eyrun, not expecting being addressed as such. "Uh, no. I'm just..." she swallows hard against her own nerves, "...seeking an audience with the denizen of the Tower." She points to the ominous building.

"We are seeking information from the tower as well but I hadn't noticed anything about the flame," admitted Alton. "I am Altorn Sagecraft and I see no harm in the four of us entering the building tobether. This is my partner, Kossk."
Sep 24, 2018 10:36 pm
"Oh, uh, hello?" She looks with curiosity at the Lizardman, half fascinated, half frightened. She's never seen such a being before.

Tucking some stray hair behind an ear she introduces herself. "Eryun Bryndisdottir."

At being introduced Kossk inclines his black head toward the elven lady.

He has learned to be cautious in new meetings.
Sep 26, 2018 9:23 pm
OOC:
With the 4 of you meeting, what do you want to do?
Sep 26, 2018 10:10 pm
"OK," says Altorn, "now that we all know each other, let's get to the tower and get things done."
Sep 26, 2018 10:27 pm
Looks like they bought it, Alez thinks. "I'm Alez. Yes, let's head in."
Sep 26, 2018 11:06 pm
"As you wish Sirs." Eryun says. She is not sure whether coming to the tower's hermit as a group would worsen or better her chances of petitioning aid, but has no desire to confront the quite... intimidating array of men and beast.

"Do you know anything of who lives here?" She asks, following the group.

Oct 2, 2018 12:04 pm
Eyrun huffs a breath at the descriptors. That was pretty much all the information she had too. Steeling herself she looks to the tower.

"So... Do we knock? Or just go straight in?"
OOC:
There is a door, I assume?
Oct 2, 2018 1:49 pm
"A tower like this, they wouldn't hear if we knocked anyways." Alez says, walking over to the door. He grabs the handle and tries to open it.

An old, massive, sturdy pair of stable doors stands shut in the base of the Tower, facing out to the cobbled alleys. Each door is made of wood reinforced with bronze, and stands six feet wide and ten feet tall. The doors are painted black, with bronze edge-frames covering the hinges. A large keyhole can be seen in the frame where the doors meet.

As Alez pulls on the doorhandle, the door doesn't open, and you feel that it is a heavy door, too. You realize it is locked.
Oct 2, 2018 7:02 pm
"I wonder if it's barred from the inside or just locked." Altorn looks around at the others. "Anybody got any lock pick tools?"
Oct 2, 2018 8:42 pm
"Mighten this one take a krack at it, ssssir?" Kossk says to Altorn.

As he says this he produces thieves tools that might do the trick.

His scaly claws work them in the door...

Rolls

Theif-tooling the key hole - (1D20+3)

Oct 2, 2018 9:44 pm
The door unlocks for you, Kossk, but as you open it, the hinges of the door creak loudly, and it seems that the creak reverberates throughout the tower. You notice a handle on the inside of the door that drives the locking mechanism.

The room beyond the alley doors is about 40 feet square, with a 15-foot ceiling. This chamber was obviously once a stable for mules; it still smells faintly of their dung, and has rusty, crumbling tether-rings set into the walls on the left and right. The room is dark, illuminated only by the light through the open doors. A closed stone door with a metal pull-ring handle stands at the west end of the room’s back wall, and there is a trapdoor in the floor near the middle of the back wall.

Along all four walls are heaped large, dusty barrels and crates that look as if they’ve been sitting undisturbed for some time; there are dozens of them, and they’ve been stacked rather untidily in groups that form walls about five feet high, a little way out from the stone walls behind them.

Standing in the center of the room is a ten-foot-tall metal statue of an armored minotaur with a trident in its hand. Its free hand is open and raised in a "stop" gesture as it faces you. Around its neck on a fine chain hangs a wooden sign that reads: "Go back or perish."

Beyond the statue, six human skulls with glowing eyesockets hover in the air about five feet off the ground and ten feet or so in front of the far wall. They gaze intently at you.
Oct 3, 2018 12:12 pm
Before entering, Alez whistles and a snow white raven decends from the sky from where it had been watching, and perches on his arm.

He wrinkles his nose at the decor. "Seems a bit gaudy"

"If you have 10 minutes to spare, I can reveal magical auras in the area. It might save us from some surprises. That sign doesn't look terribly welcoming"

"Are you sure you should be doing that, Alez?" asks Altorn. "We don't want that statue to come to life and skewer you."
Oct 3, 2018 10:30 pm
"The skulls are radiating illusion magic. I'm trying to see if the skull is real, and it's only the light that's an illusion, or if it's the whole skull. The statue isn't magical, and if the skulls were an alarm I would expect to see some hint of abjuration. So it should be safe to do... This"

Also gives the skull a tentative prod.

Alez starts and falls backwards as the skull turns, landing on his rear in a very undignified way. But, picking himself up, he's laughing. "See, just an illusion", he says, conjuring the skull's twin briefly with a gesture, before dismissing
it.
Oct 4, 2018 12:12 pm
Eryun takes in the ominous 'greeting' as well as noting that the others seeking the Hermit were not without skills of their own. She was, for a brief moment, mesmerised by raven that appeared to be a friend to one of the others. She'd never seen a white one before.

"Guessing he's not much fond of guests." Eyrun says, a little jovially, though equally disappointed. "This is quite the... dissuasion." She leans on her quarterstaff and looks to the others. "Does your business press you to ignore the warning? I should like to walk out of here."
Oct 4, 2018 12:26 pm
"All this? It's just theater. An act put on to make our tower hermit seem super spooky. If it were a real threat, the statue really would have attacked us, and the skulls would breath fire or something. You ought to be safe to conduct whatever business you have. All the same, our lizard friend is handy with doors. The type to leave warnings like that is a type to have a poison needle installed in a doorknob." He turns to Krossk. "Mind having a look? I like my blood in my body, personally, and my eyesight isn't great."
Oct 4, 2018 7:40 pm
"Hey, Alez. Next time you do something like that let us know what you've found out about it before you do it."
Oct 4, 2018 8:02 pm
Kossk tastes the air as his moves to the statue.
Seemingly drawn in by the stature of the bovine beast but, then zeroes in on a trident.
He carefully touches his lower right flank as he stares at the sharp tines...

Alez's query summons the lizardfolk back from his revery.
Kossk nods slowy and says "Yessss...." as he moves towards the indicated door to check for traps.

The Minotaur statue thing connects with his target, goring him viciously and taking it to the ground, going onto all fours as it relishes in its small victory. The lizardfolk lays motionless on the ground, a deep wound in its side.

All the conscious combatants notice two things: someone sneaking into the shadows, and that some plaster and clay crack and drop from the Minotaur as he drops to his hands and knees.
OOC:
To discern what is beneath the plaster would require a perception check.

Eyrun, Alez, and Kodak (death save) in any order.
Oct 22, 2018 4:05 pm
Acting purely on instinct, Alez moves to the entrance of the tower, trying to put as much distance between himself and the minotaur as possible. He turns, and fires a thin white ray from his finger. A simple time spell, primitive by wizard standards, that doesn't take relative temperature into account. Unfriendly to cast on friends, but perfect for enemies. While he does this, he's running the situation over in his head. Is it magic? If so how did I miss the aura? Gargoyle?

Not to complain, because I thought this campaign was dead, but I moved away from the minotaur
Dec 17, 2018 2:47 pm
OOC:
I’m sure he has sufficient movement to chase Alez. He would have done that, being that it is a vengeful creature, and you had it’s attention.

Kossk’s bolt hits the creature’s neck bone, and it’s head snaps and rolls on the floor, as the minotaur skeleton’s body thuds onto the floor over Alez’s body.
OOC:
Out of initiative.

I'll probably reroll, if you don't mind?
Dec 17, 2018 3:41 pm
OOC:
Are you asking me to reroll because I didn’t say that I moved to your character before I attacked? Or do you have a situational reason why the Minotaur would need to reroll?

Unless you can provide a story reason or a mechanics reason why the reroll should occur, I rule that the critical stands.

OOC:
No, I mean reroll my character, rather than have him revived.

Edit: and by that I mean roll a new character

Oh yes, you can definitely roll up a new character.

Kossk gives the room a once over cautiously before making to retrieve his arrows.
He spares a glance at his travel-companion, "Altorn, alright?"

Rolls

Investigating his arrow recovery - (1D20+1)

(14) + 1 = 15

OOC:
Altorn is OK. I;m just waiting to see the results of my last Chill Touch spell.

OOC:
What results are you searching for? The Minotaur skeleton is no more.

Kossk recovers his bolts, though two of them look to not be his. They are made from a different wood than the rest, and they have the symbol of a Black Hand etched into the head of the bolt’s metal tip, metal being uncommon.

Kossk shrugs a scaley shrug.
If they fit his bow then they are good enough.
He has definitely used worse...

When he notices the odd metal and symbol he will hold it out quizzically to Altorn and the others who still draw breath.
"This is odd..."
