Alalla gasps at the pain and the icy fear gripping her heart, and tears begin to flow unbidden.

Where did everyone go? Ahead, like she told them to. But where is she? She has to get to them, but she can't get free.

Alalla strikes out at one of the Lost, landing a hit despite her confusion and tears blurring her vision. The feeling of her sword striking flesh doesn't encourage her like it should, and instead more fear sinks into her heart at the hopelessness of the situation.

Everyone has gone, and she is alone. The feeling is as painful as a blade.

No! Al lashes out twice more, but though she damages one of her captors it isn't enough and she is left reeling again.

What can she do? Even Erevain has left her. She will be lost and alone until she dies.

No, he promised. All of Kuldahar watched him promise. Adrenaline and survival instinct fuel Al and she flails at her captors, but she is only an animal in a cage. Her thrashing does little to deter the Lost. They press in on her once more, taking back what little space she had earned.

Alalla strains against the arms holding her, but she is weak with despair. "Erevain," she sobs, and the trio's tears fall down her face together.

Lost 1 takes 22 slashing damage and 10 fire. Lost 3 takes 27 slashing damage and 10 fire damage. They must both make a strength save or be knocked prone.

"You've got a little something on you right there." Grimacing, he turns back to the disgusting other things that Ras didn't destroy.

"Zen, are you related to these creatures? I think you might be, I see a family resemblance. I'll see if I can make them a tad more decrepit so I can tell you apart from them."

Fergy casts bane on the remaining lost

The Lost need to make a DC 16 CHA saving throw or receive 1d4 attack and saving throw damage.

"I'm glad you noticed," Zenithral replies dryly, drawing a few arrows. He huff as he continues backpedaling away from the Lost. "Let's hope this is the last reunion. Hold still, Ras," he says calmly. The gnome can feel an arrow fly by as it skewers the Wretched that was on him. (Wretched on Ras takes lethal damage)

He draws and fires again at one of the Lost clawing at Alalla. (Lost 1 takes 16 damage)

The girl looks up at Zenithral. She makes an 'mmmm' sound, and then mouths 'Mona', smiling shyly.

The boy's eyes dart back and forth, almost as if reading. He crouches down and rubs his finger in the dirt, spelling 'Lance' in several languages - one of which is unrecognizable to Zenithral. He seems content to spend the next half hour or so absorbed in this activity.

Zenithral has another vision from Myllandra: The image of Erestor dying drifts through his mind, the elf frozen in time mid-fall.

This time the deva does not respond to any of his questions. Her voice rings with formality. "You have made choices, and now must live with the consequences. For good or ill, you have gained wisdom from this. Use it well, as more decisions remain to be made."

There is no judgement in her voice, but Zenithral thinks that perhaps she sounds weary, though trying to hide it.

The vision ends quickly, but Zenithral finds that his guide's words are true. In dealing with his father he has learned much.

Turning to see Alalla still below, Erevain throws himself back down the stairs, putting all of his skill into a flurry of attacks at one of the Lost clinging to Alalla. It dies with Erevain's sword through its neck, and then the elf warrior deftly pulls his sword free, slicing through the limbs holding Alalla and even dipping down to score a hit on another of the Lost - all managed so fluidly that it seems to all have been one motion. "Come, sharuhk! You must keep moving!"

Action Surge and Hunter's Quarry. Lethal damage to Lost 3 and 9 to Lost 2.

Round 2 Summary

The heroes turn back to reach Alalla as the Lost moan.

Alalla tries desperately to free herself, but the Lost cling to her with a strength that belies their frail frames. One of them screams in pain as a bone spike slowly rips free of its chest, driving its way to Alalla's heart in what will surely be a fatal wound - but then Ug and Erevain arrive in an avalanche of maul and blade. Erevain's shield smashes the bone spike to pieces just before it penetrates Alalla's armor, and then goliath and elf make short work of those two Lost.

The Lost that Alalla had previously knocked down pulls itself to its feet and stabs at Erevain's side (Erevai takes 13 piercing damage), causing the elf to grunt in pain, but he barely keeps himself upright.

On the stairwell, the Wretched on Ras' back begins to chew in deeper (Ras takes 3 necrotic damage), but an arrow from Zenithral ends its miserable existence.

Fergy's spell descends on the remaining two Lost, and one of them moans piteously as the nefarious enchantment takes effect (Lost 2 fails its save and is Baned). They begin to raise various spiked appendages towards the party members, but then a wave of the Wretched falls over them. The sound of weeping mixes with burbling sucking.

If the party moves quickly, they can be on up the stairs while Lost and Wretched make war.

Moving on! The party gains 1,260 XP, putting the party at 100,720. Which means...

LEVEL UUUUUUUP!!!!!

You don't get back anything that you've already used today, but you DO get whatever new toys you gain from leveling up. A simpler way to think about I think would be to level up your character, and then subtract everything that's happened to them so far today, like damage taken and abilities used. But essentially you'll 'heal' the amount of new hp you gain.
The party moves up to the next floor. Strangely, once they leave the staircase they no longer hear sounds from the battle below. Much more rubble marks this floor than did the first.

The place seems silent, but Zenithral notes places where the walls have been blasted inward, and remembers watching his uncle charge forward into a cloud of debris to face some unknown threat. If that threat somehow remains after all these years... could it possibly be worse than what the party has already seen?

A scrape of metal on stone sounds from somewhere, echoing through the halls. Then another, and another, much like the heavy, dragging steps of metal boots.

It sounds as though whatever it is is getting closer.

"We can't keep this up. We need rest," Alalla says, looking over the battered group. Her voice and breathing are steady, but her eyes still leak tears. Tear ducts are a little harder to control. "That, or we need to keep running. We can't fight whatever's coming."

Zenithral sees Erevain take a hit and steels himself to take it for him. White light streaks into him, stopping Erevain's wound, but to Zenithral's surprise, he suffers no injury. (Uses Martyr's Empathy. 13 temporary hit points takes the blow)

Zenithral eyes Alalla, and notes the tears. Whatever these creatures are, they don't just hack and slash. He suspected the wounds his allies have taken run far deeper than cuts and bruises.

"If only we had some extra-planar place to hide... Zenithral says. My planar magic's isn't a fraction powerful enough for that though, just keeping enemies out of the fight for a few seconds at best..."

Alalla turns to Erevain. "What about your trick with the rope?" she asks urgently, glancing towards the sound of the heavy footfalls.

Erevain pulls a length of rope from his pack and begins casting a spell. He pauses suddenly, the words trailing away, as the rope disintegrates before the companions' eyes. He drops the end before the strange effect reaches his fingers. "I do not like this place."

With no other alternative, the party continues forward, Alalla's flaming sword burning away the shadows and revealing the destruction that has fallen on these halls. Tapestries are shredded, stones are burst, and the walls all bear holes and gaps of various sizes.

Zenithral pauses to remember the way up to the next floor. The whole place appears very different from how he saw it yesterday, and getting his bearings is difficult. Then, suddenly the party sees at the end of one long corridor a large shape pass, and the sound of metal on stone rings again. Whatever that thing is, it has a lumbering gait. The party moves the other way, hoping to avoid the creature. Always, though, the scraping sound seems to draw closer.

The companions pick up speed, with one eye behind to try to identify whatever creature haunts this floor, when in front of them appears an orc. It looks almost normal, dressed in hides, except that its skin is dusky gray and the muscles in its face twitch.

Erevain murmurs darkly. "If this tower was indeed attacked centuries ago, how can this orc still be alive?"

Metal screeches behind the party once more, and the orc spasms in response. It staggers forward into a run toward the heroes, and several more orcs materialize next to it in mid-stride. Suddenly the approaching group is five orcs strong.

These orcs show no sign of understanding Alalla's speech. In fact, there is very little emotion in their eyes at all, almost as if they are but empty husks. They continue to run forward.

Ug rushes forward to fully engage the orcs. His friends were slowly being worn down and pushed to their physical limits. Ug agreed with erevain. He hated this place. The frost on his maul mimics his thoughts, curving into a frozen scythe, he swings at the attackers.

Orc 2 takes 28 bludgeoning and 3 cold (lethal?), and orc 3 takes 21 bludgeoning and 4 cold.
Ug is on his second to last rage and is reckless.
