"Fergy, what... Oh, COME ON!" Ras growls as Fergy attacks him again. Ras's hand and shield fly out in an attempt to stop any and all attacks against him. "Leave me alone you crazy dwarf!"

Pushing Fergy aside, he rushes to Erevains side and grabs his hand.

Erevain gets 17 HP

So the reason the captain is still alive is because he had an ability that let him resist ALL damage for one turn. And then getting healed another 25 hp puts him at 50.

The confusion is gone! So Fergy can stop smacking Ras :P

With these elves destroyed, the party settles down to have some rest. Zenithral sets wards on the stairs to alert the group in case of intruders.

The chamber with the large round table seems to have been a sort of war room at some time, but due to age or atmosphere the papers and maps about are all but mold and dust.

Zenithral's wards on the stairs give the party some measure of security and confidence... until a shadow passes by the window. The party has only a moment to grab their weapons, and then a winged, misshapen creature stumbles through the window and into the room.

Whatever the creature was before, it now looks like some sort of cross between a diseased horse, a balding bird of prey, and a squid. Several tentacles writhe from its beaked mouth, and it seems to be missing its eyes - only empty sockets glare from its hawklike face. Despite its unusual form and awkward hobbling gait, the thing moves like a predator, stalking towards the group.

"Goodness gracious, what is it with demented malformities here?!" Zenithral knocks an arrow he had just finished crafting and starts firing. His whole quiver glows green and arrows fly into his hand one after another; all he has to do is draw the string back and release.

(Horsehawksquidapus takes 52 damage and, if not dead, it must make a DC 14 Charisma saving throw or be banished for a round)

(Used Action Surge and maybe Banishing Arrow)

Ug had barely just sat down to nap when the thing enters the window. NOT AGAIN! UG WILL DEFEND HIS FRIENDS!! Ug launches himself up and a bloodlust inside of him pounds in his ears. As cold seeps from his body there is a hint of something else. His skin seems to turn from a bluish hue to a snowy white, his bared teeth look sharpened, and about his head appear . . horns. The image is gone in an instant, as Ug channels his anger into his maul. In a feriocious beating, there will most likely be nothing left of this misshapen newcomer.

The beast drags its bloated body forward on four legs that vaguely resemble a horse's. Sparse feathers slick with some kind of black tar stick out in patches from its shoulders and neck. Zenithral's arrows and Fergy's fire spell pepper the creature, and it lets out a gurgling cry of pain, but continues on to lunge at Ug.

It throws itself atop Ug, trying to bring the goliath down with its own weight, and the tentacles immediately go for his face. Slimy and slithering, the rubbery tendrils slip into whatever openings they can find: mouth, nose, ears - one even wriggling dangerously close to Ug's eyes. The tentacles wriggle in anticipation as several find purchase and begin to press deeper, and Ug feels a terrible pain in his head (Ug takes 21 psychic damage).

Despite the precarious situation, Ug's swing bears true. With a wet smack his maul collides with the monster's face, ice instantly shocking along the tentacles and freezing them brittle. With a crack Ug pulls free from the thing's grasp and unleashes pure barbarian rage on its sorry hide.

There isn't much left when he is done. Still, the goliath feels a numbness within his skull. If this creature had not been stopped, it might have cracked his head open like a melon and devoured his brain.

Looking at the window, the party wonders if this is a safe place to rest after all.

Ug sits back down to rest for a moment with more on his mind than just slimy oozy hoarse tentacles. That bloodlust inside was still thumping, pushing, wanting to come out. He had almost let it for a just a moment. What would happen if and when he actually did? He pictured Jhonen and what he had become. Something powerful, but something empty. What was Ug becoming to protect his friends? He believed it would be worth it, but just how high would the price become? And most importantly, what would mother think?

The elves must have had some way to patrol the surrounding mountains, and hippogriffs are easily trained." He wrinkles his fair nose. "That might also explain the large number of chimeras in the area. With the local population of hippogriffs confined to the Hand for hundreds of years, the territory they once controlled has been claimed."

The elf stands wearily. "This citadel must have once been wondrous. Has nothing gone uncorrupted in this foul place?"

Plugging his nose with one hand and waving frantically in front of his face with the other Fergy replies to Erevain.

"Well, now we know your breath has been corrupted too. Al, I think he got some illithid-hippogriph blood in his mouth. Make sure he cleans up before he kisses you again."

Growing VERY tired of all of this, Ug attempts to maneuver the table to block the window. Hefting it with his mighty form Ug is able lift the massive and ancient table onto its side without destroying it too much. Dust and papers fall from it as Ug leans the massive thing to barricade the window. He turns to the group with a little bit of a smile back on his face and points at his chest. "Barabarian!" he says happily, and then positions himself on the floor once more to take a nap.

As the companions settle down once more to rest, they hear dull scraping coming from the other side of Ug's makeshift barrier. A heavy thud follows, but the table does not budge from its position against the window. A shrill cry sounds from outside the tower, and then silence.

With no further interruptions, the party is able to bind wounds and gather strength.

Exhausted, Zenithral gives no words. He's given enough talk about the importance of the Heartstone Gem and their efforts here. It would be all repetitious and void. A subtle light washes over the group, however, giving energy to the exhausted group.
