Sporting a new makeover Ug feels more energized. To enhance the look, Ug let’s ice build up on the end of his maul in the shape of a spiked skull. Not wanting to give the creature a chance to hurt his friends, Ug flanks Al and together they unleash a barrage of sword, flame, ice, and maul. Ug scores with each massive hit, knocking the wretched thing backwards and to the floor

angry takes 120 bludgeoning, and 19 cold damage. It is also knocked prone, twice, however that plays out : ) Ug is reckless but not frenzied.

As Alalla and Ug charge forward, Zenithral wastes no time. With some extra practice under his belt, six arrows fly one after another into place and he fires them in rapid succession, the final blow exploding as Fergy fires fire and the two melee warriors crash into it.

Round 1 Summary

Zenithral's barrage of arrows slams into the creature one after the other, the final missile exploding in a flash of light that paints both Kayleesa and Erestor's faces blue.

Neither face seems to care.

Fergy's bolt of fire burns through the air and catches the creature's shoulder.

It doesn't seem to care.

Ug and Alalla crash into it, delivering blows that should shatter bones and cleave limbs. Somehow, this thing's hide withstands the punishment. Again and again they bring their enchanted weapons to bear. It struggles forward against the onslaught, hooked hands reaching forward....

Erestor's head snaps up, suddenly alert. Both mouths open as a scream of rage begins to build in their throats.

As the piercing whine gets louder, Erevain drops his sword and throws up his hands, trying desperately to conjure a wall of wind in the room.

The scream builds to a ferocious crescendo that batters the companions, flaying at body and mind. Both of the creature's heads stare with wide, hateful eyes.

Erevain claps his hands together, and the air around the heroes blurs as it swirls violently, instantly filling the space with howling wind, just as Ug slams his maul into the creature in a vicious uppercut, sending it sprawling onto its back and cutting off the scream.

Everyone make a DC 17 Constitution save (with advantage) or drop to 0 hp. If you save, you take 22 psychic damage instead.

As the companions stagger to recover from the terrible sound, to their horror the creature rises once more, its anger unabated. One bone hook slides through Alalla's armor like butter, and the other slams into Ug's gut (Al takes 43 damage, and after resistance Ug takes 82. Slashing and psychic). Working together, Alalla and Ug manage to throw the thing back, and it falls once more.

Spitting with rage, it starts to get back to its feet.

The twisted creature falls to the floor, its collapse kicking up swirls of thick dust. Both of its heads stare with eyes milked over in death, and the furrows of rage that once lined its faces now eased. Whatever fate befell Kaylessa and Erestor in this awful place, their condition looks to be at least somewhat better now.

The companions can take but little encouragement for having emerged as the victors of this battle, however. Once more, they feel the weight of the distorted enchantments that lie over The Severed Hand. More than mere webs of magic, the heroes understand that the corrupted mythal has developed its own sense of purpose. Defeating such a powerful foe in this place seems to have drawn its attention.

Even with Fergy's magic hiding his true features, Erevain stands tall, distinguished by his warrior's posture. Blade in hand, he turns to examine the walls of the grand chamber, which continue to ooze with that same black substance that has appeared again and again in this cursed citadel. "I suggest we move on." His eyes flick towards Alalla, making sure that she is alright. "If we are to retrieve this journal of which Kaylessa spoke, better to do it sooner rather than later." His remark is punctuated by a fat splat of black slime onto the floor.

Erevain gestures to one of the five ascending stairways, marked by an engraving of an arrow with intricate fletching. "That one bears the symbol of Solonor Thelandira. If we can believe Kaylessa's words, we will find the journal in a dormitory there."

"A warrior's death for her, too. And Erestor... I don't even want to know." She watches with concern as Fergy performs healing on Ras, then breathes deeply with relief that her call had been correct. Alalla nods to Erevain. "Up we go then." She retrieves her glaive and leads the way.

The companion climbs the stairs of Solonor Tower, leaving darkness to claim the Palm of the Hand.

They come to the first landing, and find the doorway there blocked by rubble. At the moment it is difficult to say whether the room beyond is intact or not. Sifting through the fallen stone may be possible, but will likely take some time. Meanwhile, the stairs lead ever higher.

After consulting with the group, Ras starts carefully moving the rubble. He pointedly ignores Fergy's "helping" and concentrates on making enough of a hole that the group can observe whatever lies beyond. The last thing he wants is to walk unprepared into another monster trap. He can only almost die so many times in one day...

Ug takes a look at the rubble and then nods towards the steps. "Ug can always move rock on way back down. Keep going up?"

Under Ras' magical guidance, the rubbles parts enough to allow the heroes a view of what lies beyond: it looks to be a circular common room with a high ceiling, similar to the one they found lower in the Hand. It looks relatively untouched compared to the what the companions have seen so far. The tables look to be intact, and a few faded tapestries can be seen hanging on the far wall.
