Hello everyone, Arina here. I've been playing a lot of D&D recently and for a change of pace I'd like to give Keeping a go. That being the case, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in playing a game of survival horror using CoC 7th edition rules. Full disclsimer, I am a pretty experienced D&D DM but I have very little experience with Keeping CoC (although I have played as an investigator before).

In this game you simply have to try to survive the horrific situation I throw you into. Plenty of opportunities to go insane too.

Anyway, thanks for reading and if this sounds like your idea of a good time then please let me know below and I'll send you an invite to the game.

I won apdf of the rules like a year ago and have never had a chance to read/play. W would you be willing to have a newb to CoC join?

Hey! I have too many games on my plate to be a full-time participant myself, but I just wanted to point you in the direction of the GM Mentoring Project. It may not be anything you're interested in, but it's an effort to give new (or new to a system) GMs some support, encouragement and backup. Beyond the Mentoring project, I always love to talk shop about horror gaming - there aren't a ton of folks on here who are super into the genre, though there is a lot of casual interest in trying the game out (and definitely a few consistent Lovecraft diehards!) So even if "formal mentoring" isn't up your alley, I'm always open to PMs to talk about how to get the most out of the CoC system, how to evoke the right mood, what the heck is horror anyway?, etc etc.

I actually have been slow-cooking a survival-oriented Lovecraft scenario myself for a few months now... I'd be really interested in hearing about or seeing your ideas in action!

What you like a spectator invite? Or perhaps even play a casual character? I don't think I need too much conceptual help but the mechanics are slightly different, so I'm sure I'll have a few questions as we go through.

Just downloaded the books (core rulebook and investigator handbook), will start reading them tonight to familiarize myself with the system. Do you want anything in particular for the characters and their background ?

Yes, the game will be set in the early 1920s, and you will all be anthropology students at a university in Australia.

More details to come

Thanks and I will. It has been some time.

I'd take a spectator invite for sure. I'm already failing to keep up in the games I'm committed to, so I'm hesitant to take on even a casual character, but if there was a specific idea you had in mind I'd think about it.

I fully understand and will send you an invite once we get underway.

I haven't played 7th edition and only have the free starter rules, would that be enough to create a character for your game? I used to play 6th edition a bunch but haven't played in probably 10 years.

Yes. They are enough. You can make a character that way if you like. Just assign the points and pick a profession.
