Modern Magic: San Waterdeep

The year is 2983 DR. Faerun has become quite a different place. Progress happened day by day. Our buildings grew stronger, taller, more sturdy. New metal smithing techniques led us into a period of progress of which we've never seen. Those damn tinkering Gnomes even figured out the damned microprocessor.

Infused with magic, technology has blanketed the world. Soon the same powers that sought the magic of powerful artifacts to rule lands, now sought the power of profits to rule the world. Even damned dragons have risen to power. Their treasure hordes are no longer literal, but are numbers in a bank account.

These days it's all a person can do to get a few gold credits transferred over for a job well done, and it's even more for that job to be a clean one. If you're lucky you're not dumping bodies in the harbor, instead you're slicing terminals to try and swap something more valuable than the treasure chests of old, information.

Merc groups like your own are always working to get something from someone, but at least the pay is good so long as you live to talk about it.

Looks like another John Doe has requested your assistance with a 'tricky' matter. Strangely this is coming from the Castle Ward. People of your status are not often seen on the streets of the Castle Ward. High-end restaurants and hotels are not your normal scene.

Unfortunately, strange of a client as it may be, the pay is unquestionable. 1,000,000GC. That's money you can retire on. Maybe it's at least worth seeing what they have to say.

We will be using the Modern Magic rules that someone is hacking together for D&D 5e. I will post up links in the forums, as well as noting major differences. Just know that any unearthed arcana classes, races, and traits are cool, and All of the Modern Magic stuff. All PHB is fine too, no restrictions.

There will be questions, do not worry. I will help as best as I can. This 'set' is very hacked together so there will also be a forum of house rules eventually that we accumulate. This may be a bit more...collaborative... of a DM process then some games of 5e you've played so we all feel like we are getting a fair shake.
