Alight (PF1e) [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
The world is in darkness. The last heroes died decades ago in a final, desperate fight against evil. With no one left to truly oppose it, the Corruption spread. Monstrous things bred in darkness, clawed their way out of ancient dens, and spawned in fetid pools of blood.
Cathalia - once a bastion of justice and peace - was cut into disparate parts by vile lords. The common folk have lost hope. They live in fear of the capricious whims of their overlords, and do only what they must to survive.
South Reach is a rolling expanse of prairie dotted with boggy lowlands along what was once lower Cathalia. Yngmar Dragontongue, an undead warlord who owes allegiance only to the Six Sinister Spirits, rules without pity or mercy exploiting the land, taxing the people beyond poverty, and dragging innocents from their beds to fuel blood sacrifices to his abhorrent masters.
But in a dim corner of South Reach an ember glows. A small group of brave souls who have awoken to a new purpose - to bring some light to a world in darkness.
Alight is a sandbox-style campaign set in a high fantasy, post-apocalyptic homebrew setting both grim and dark where evil conquered years before. The player characters are the first few who are willing and able to try and make the world a better place. The campaign will focus on role-playing over combat (largely due to the slow nature of combat in PbP games) and will include the chance to defeat evil, build and support villages and cities, and - maybe - save the world. The campaign's themes will be focused on good versus evil and the struggle of average people against impossible odds.

Characters will begin play at level 1. Ability scores will be generated using the point-buy method with 20 points. Almost all Paizo-published material is available, with some notable exceptions:
1. We will not be using Occult classes or the accompanying rules.
2. Gunpowder has not been invented and therefore we will not be using the Gunslinger class.
A note on race: It can be assumed that the races in the Core Rulebook are the most common, having 'survived' for the most part. Other official races are available for player choice, but are exceptionally rare. This is to give the world some homogeneity without truly restricting player options. The DM reserves the right to refuse any character based on race choice if it would imbalance the party (high Race Point options, for example), or provide narrative dissonance (the Android race, for example, would need to be handled carefully).
