The Celestial Court [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
At the court of a pantheon of gods, minor gods with limited influence must navigate the whims, rivalries, and relationships of the divine. The player characters, lesser gods or powerful mortals, must deal with the politics of immortality, personal grudges, forbidden romances, and the dangerous intrigue of divine power struggles.

Characters will be generated as part of play, through use of the Cortex Pathways system. A custom Pathways chart will be used to step through character creation... here's a sample of the custom creation steps I'm working on. The first step in character creation is your Origin. You can choose from one of five origins:
Elderborn
You were born into the pantheon, the offspring of older, established gods. Your existence has always been tied to the divine court, and you have known power and privilege from a young age. However, being born into such a high status also comes with great expectations.
Ascended Mortal
You were once a mortal, but through extraordinary feats, divine favor, or mysterious circumstances, you ascended to godhood. Your rise may have been sudden, or it could have been the result of a long journey. Now, as a divine being, you struggle to balance your past with your present.
Celestial Creation
You were born from the raw forces of the cosmos—perhaps from the stars, the elements, or the fabric of space and time itself. You are a direct manifestation of nature’s power or cosmic energy, and this gives you a unique perspective among the gods.
Outsider
You were once a member of a previous or adjacent pantheon, perhaps worshipped by an ancient or conquered culture. Through divine politics, war, or fate, you have been absorbed into the current pantheon. Now, you must navigate a new divine order that may not fully accept you.
Demi-God
You are the offspring of a god and a mortal, straddling the line between divinity and mortality. While your parentage grants you powers beyond mortal comprehension, it also leaves you vulnerable to the limitations and emotions of both worlds. You are a bridge between the divine and the mortal, but this role comes with constant tension.
Elderborn
You were born into the pantheon, the offspring of older, established gods. Your existence has always been tied to the divine court, and you have known power and privilege from a young age. However, being born into such a high status also comes with great expectations.
• | What was it like growing up in the shadow of your parents? Did they expect you to follow in their footsteps, or did they allow you to carve your own path? |
• | Were you close to your parents or distant from them? Did you have regular interactions with other gods, or were you isolated due to your status? |
• | What was your relationship with your siblings, if any? Were you rivals for divine favor, or did you form close bonds? |
• | Did your parents raise you to adhere strictly to the rules of the pantheon, or did they encourage rebellion or freedom of thought? Were there specific divine laws you were expected to follow? |
• | How did being born into such power shape your views of mortals and other gods? Do you see them as lesser beings, or do you have empathy for them despite your elevated status? |
Ascended Mortal
You were once a mortal, but through extraordinary feats, divine favor, or mysterious circumstances, you ascended to godhood. Your rise may have been sudden, or it could have been the result of a long journey. Now, as a divine being, you struggle to balance your past with your present.
• | What led to your ascension? Did you perform heroic deeds, gain the favor of a god, or stumble upon divine power by accident? |
• | What was your mortal life like before your ascension? Were you a peasant, a king, or a hero among mortals? |
• | How do you feel about your new status? Are you proud of your ascension, or do you miss your mortal life? Do you still have mortal attachments (family, friends), and how do you manage them now? |
• | Do other gods accept you as one of their own, or do they see you as an outsider? How has your relationship with the pantheon evolved since your ascension? |
• | Do you use your powers to help mortals or distance yourself from them? How do you handle the divine responsibilities that come with your new role? |
Celestial Creation
You were born from the raw forces of the cosmos—perhaps from the stars, the elements, or the fabric of space and time itself. You are a direct manifestation of nature’s power or cosmic energy, and this gives you a unique perspective among the gods.
• | How were you created? Were you shaped from fire, water, air, or earth? Are you a star given form, or were you crafted from cosmic forces by an elder god? |
• | What is your relationship to the natural world or celestial bodies? Do you feel connected to the stars, the seasons, or elemental forces? |
• | How do you view other gods, especially those who were born from parents or ascended from mortality? Do you consider yourself more or less "pure" compared to them? |
• | Do you have emotions and desires similar to other gods, or is your experience of the world fundamentally different? How do your origins influence your ability to relate to others? |
• | Are there limitations to your powers or understanding because of your celestial origins? Are you detached from the mortal world, or do you find it fascinating? |
Outsider
You were once a member of a previous or adjacent pantheon, perhaps worshipped by an ancient or conquered culture. Through divine politics, war, or fate, you have been absorbed into the current pantheon. Now, you must navigate a new divine order that may not fully accept you.
• | What was your previous pantheon like? Were you a powerful god in that pantheon, or a minor deity? What was your role? |
• | Why did your old pantheon fall or lose power? Was it conquered, forgotten by mortals, or absorbed into the current pantheon through alliances or war? |
• | How do you feel about being part of this new pantheon? Are you resentful of your new situation, or have you embraced it? |
• | Do you have old rivals or allies in your current pantheon? Are there gods who look down on you for being an outsider, or others who sympathize with your plight? |
• | How do you view the new mortals who worship this pantheon? Do you still care for the mortals who once worshipped you, or have you accepted the new followers? |
• | Are there remnants of your old power or culture that you cling to? Do you feel the need to prove yourself to the gods of this new pantheon, or do you operate outside of their expectations? |
• | Who were your parents, and how did their union come about? Was it a romantic relationship, a divine experiment, or something else entirely? |
• | What is your relationship with your divine parent? Do they care for you, or were you abandoned to the mortal world? How much influence do they have over your life? |
• | Do you feel more connected to mortals or gods? How do you navigate the challenges of living between two worlds? |
• | What powers did you inherit from your divine parent, and how do they interact with your mortal limitations? Are you fully in control of your abilities, or do they come with complications? |
• | How do other gods treat you? Do they see you as a lesser being because of your mortal blood, or do they respect your divine heritage? |
• | Do you feel the pull to prove yourself worthy of full godhood, or are you content with your unique identity as a demi-god? How do mortals see you—are you revered, feared, or misunderstood? |
