Heuster's Retreat [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
One tells the tale of Sir Isaac Heuster. A man whose curiosity found no bounds, and determination as strong as steel. Isaac had made a local reputation out of his interest towards the investigation of the dark forces he finds.
Out one night in the caverns of Windfell Sir Isaac Heuster and his companions came across a curious woman. The woman, who knew more about Isaac than Isaac knew her, offered him a deal. She would finance the establishment of a settlement for him within the moonlit caverns of Windfell, full of supplies needed to carry out future investigations. She offered this under the condition that he and his companions serve her should she call for their aid.
Perhaps out of the temptation of having his own private place to study, Isaac had agreed to the deal, although cautiously keeping himself aware of the woman. Within days, multiple caravans unaffilated with any local political grouping began coming into the caverns, full of workers for hire who began constructing this settlement for Isaac Heuster. When any would ask these workers who hired them, they would say that they responded to local notices from their towns. When the construction was complete, a very lavish settlement had been made for Isaac and his companions to carry out their expeditions in private.
For 3 years, the woman was barely heard from. During that time, Isaac and his companions had significant breakthroughs in the research and investigation of shadow magic. This was until one night, the woman had returned to Isaac for her end of the deal.
She needed Isaac, and 4 of his best companions to venture out to a portal she had discovered, and retrieve and artifact that belonged to her family. While some people in the settlement were not exactly excited about the idea of a portal, Isaac had made a deal. Together, the 6 people ventured north. Days became weeks, and weeks became months. Search parties had gone north in this time period but could not find a trace of the adventurers. Within time the horror of the group losing some of its most prestigious members had shaken the remaining members of the settlement. Within this time, the settlement had been abandoned by all but a few people.
25 years later, a local town east of the Caverns of Windfell known as Feldoor had recently had a board notice looking for adventurers to seek out Huester's Retreat. Many people scoffed the notice, some believing the story of Sir Isaac Heuster to be nothing more than a fairy tale. For 8 individuals though, something had caught their eye when they saw the notice, and at that point knew their destination was Heuster's Retreat.

Roll for Stats (4d6 keep 3)
Backstories are encouraged. This will be a homebrewed story setting at first so you are free to make up the means of your origins, but remember that you must end up in Feldoor one way or another to have heard of the notice.
In terms of Sir Isaac Heuster's tale, the locale in the immediate area around the Caverns (including Feldoor) have heard of it, but many refuse to believe the story and instead choose to believe he had either gone mad, or gotten himself killed, should that help your backstory. Anything else, feel free to discuss it in the forums
Game will have times where player's can be inactive meaning not all 8 have to go out at once should real life stuff happen.
