Act II: Ill Fortunes (the fourth day)

Beyond the door you see a flaming pyre in the center of a 20-foot-square room. The flames encompass most of the room and sometimes lick at the walls. The walls are almost completely black with burn marks. Across the room, you can see another door on the north wall. Next to the door, there is a burnt out skeleton holding the blade of what looks to be a silvered short sword. Despite the great heat in the room right now, the blade seems pristine, though it is missing pommel, hilt, and guard, with only the tang allowing any sort of grip on the weapon. But most important are the current "living" inhabitants of this room. A huge being composed entirely of fire accompanied by one of medium size and 3 smaller ones. They turn to look at you as soon as the door opens, their fiery features twisting into grimaces of anger and anguish.

Time to roll for initiative! You may also place your counters on the battle map.

OOC:
My initiative is always crap, is it kosher to open the door from the side? I don't want to be blocking the doorway.

15 Ireena
12 Huge fire creature
10 Small fire creatures

Combat Map.

Conditions
The insides of the room is extremely hot. Characters stepping inside suffers 1d6 lethal damage per minute (no saves, negated by Endure Elements) from the heat and breathing in hot scalding air. In addition, characters must make a Fort Save DC 15+1 per previous check to avoid taking another 1d4 points of nonlethal damage (also negated by Endure Elements).
The insides of the room is also on fire. Characters stepping inside must succeed at a Ref Save to avoid catching fire (1d6 of damage immediately, 1d6 damage per round, NOT negated by Endure Elements, but fire resistance will apply). Each subsequent round the character must succeed at a DC 15 Ref Save to put out the fire. rolling on the ground or using a cloak to smother the fire gives a +4 to the save. A character catching on fire must make a Ref Save DC 15 for each piece of flammable equipment or else it takes the same amount of fire damage as the character.

Veroth is up first.

Veroth Delays his action.
Nov 28, 2018 2:19 pm
Determined to lead the charge, Darren steps past his companions, drawing upon his magic to grant speed to his limbs, and swings his warhammer at the large elemental in front of him.
OOC:
Move: Step into melee with elemental
Swift: Fervor to cast Channel Vigor
Standard: Attack enemy
[ +- ] Combat Stats

Rolls

Power Attack! - (1d20+10, 1d8+10)

1d20+10 : (2) + 10 = 12

1d8+10 : (8) + 10 = 18

Reflex Save - (1d20+4)

(1) + 4 = 5

Nov 28, 2018 2:33 pm
Darren catches on fire, taking 6 fire damage. Each piece of flammable equipment on you must now succeed at a Ref Save DC 15 or also take 6 points of fire damage. He also misses the huge fire creature.

The medium fire creature is up next. It moves 5 feet next to Darren and will attack him. It misses him.

Ireena is next. She currently cannot enter the room and will delay her action as well.

The huge fire creature is up next. It will simply attack Darren twice. Ouch, Darren is hit twice for 13 and 16 points of damage respectively.
OOC:
Hmm, okay, now comes the weird part... You need to succeed 2 Ref Saves... to avoid further catching on fire? I guess?
Now the 3 smaller fire creatures. They will move closer to the fight, with 2 of them moving through the huge fire creature and attempting to hit Darren. Both of them miss.

Roland is now up!

Rolls

Fire damage - (1d6)

(6) = 6

Medium fire creature's attack

Huge fire creature's 1st attack

Huge fire creature's 2nd attack

Small fire creature 1's attack

Small fire creature 2's attack

Nov 28, 2018 3:22 pm
Roland will spend a grit point to make a targeted shot against the large creatures head. If it hits, the creature is confused for 1 round.

Firing against touch ac. Point blank shot and deadly shot added.

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+9)

(8) + 9 = 17

Damage - (2d12+5)

(610) + 5 = 21

Nov 28, 2018 3:26 pm
Roland's shot hits the creature square in the head... or at least the fire part which looks vaguely like a head... and the shot does seem to disorient the creature a bit.

Adrith is up.
Nov 28, 2018 4:51 pm
With Darren engaged in the doorway, Adrith tries to maneuver to hit the medium sized fire creature.
OOC:
The rolls are assuming that I can actually swing at the thing. If not, will use Alter Self to look like an Undine (Water Genasi), for +2 STR, and look like a good target

Rolls

Attack 1 (power attack) - (1d20+10)

(8) + 10 = 18

Damage 1 (power attack) - (2d6+14)

(25) + 14 = 21

Attack 2 (power attack) - (1d20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Damage 2 (power attack) - (2d6+14)

(16) + 14 = 21

Nov 28, 2018 5:30 pm
Adrith strikes true, destroying the medium fire creature and making space in the room.

Heather is up next!
Nov 29, 2018 1:21 am
OOC:
Based on this diagram I believe Darren won't be hurt by this. If that isn't the case I would like to cast a different spell.
Taking a step to improve her sight line Heather mumbles under her breath while touching a mouth harp in her bag. With a quick shouted warning to Darren she cast sound burst in the middle of the room hoping to stun the fire elementals.

All the elementals will take damage (unless resistant to spells) but a DC 12 fortitude save will negate the stun effect

Rolls

Sound damage - (1d8)

(8) = 8

Nov 29, 2018 2:47 am
Veroth is going to try moving through threatened squares, and through a little guys space, into the corner.

(For thing through an enemy, Acrobatics DC =5+ enemy's CMD)

Not sure if that succeeds. If it does, V is in the corner, if not, in front of the medium elemental.

Rolls

Acrobatics (AC 26 vs AOO) - (1d20+16)

(4) + 16 = 20

Rapier +1 to medium - (1d20+12, 1d6+3)

1d20+12 : (4) + 12 = 16

1d6+3 : (3) + 3 = 6

Reflex save - (1d20+11)

(10) + 11 = 21

Nov 29, 2018 3:07 am
OOC:
@ Shanata, you are correct.
Heather casts her spells, the creatures take damage, but do not seem to be affected by the stun effect...

Veroth enters the room (and must succeed at a DC 15 Ref Save to avoid catching on fire), manages to push his way past the small fire creature, but the huge creature manages to get an attack of opportunity on Veroth. Veroth is hit for 11 points of damage and must succeed at another Ref Save to avoid the creature's burn ability. Losing balance slightly because of the unexpected attack, Veroth misses teh large creature as its flam body weaves and twists around Veroth's rapier.
OOC:
Will wait for Darren's and Veroth's saves before proceeding on to next round.

Rolls

Huge fire creature's AoO

Nov 29, 2018 3:25 am
Save vs burn

Rolls

Reflex save - (1d20+11)

(7) + 11 = 18

Nov 29, 2018 3:44 am
OOC:
the large creature is confused and cannot take attacks of opportunity
OOC:
Let me rephrase that, it's your monster, he can do whatever he wants, lol. But what I was going for with the confusion was to shut him down a little.
