Sea Stories: Chapter 1

The magical assault on the helmsman is incredibly effective. The three magical bolts cause the elf at the helm to stagger back slightly, just as the blob of water crushes into his chest, knocking his lifeless body over. As he falls, the wheel spins and the enemy ship careens away from your vessel. You managed to render them actionless this turn! You can see them scramble to get a new sailor to the helm.

Your mangonel and ballista fire again, landing solid blows against their hull!

Hull AC15 | 278/300 HP (threshold 15)

Oh no you don't. Zeph spins the wheel back toward the enemy ship and moves to their port side. "Get ready to board crew."
OOC:
Action to move the ship 45' closer to their ship. Which direction is the wind blowing?

Turning towards their ship will put you sailing more with the wind:

Roscoe cheers! Oh, he's so ready to board!

Miri marches imperiously from one side of the deck to the other as thee ship turns triumphantly into the wind. As she walks, she snaps orders at the sailors she passes, having them hoist the sails to full mast.
OOC:
Using the full speed ahead action. Lets go in for the kill! Beautiful art, Drama btw.

Edit: That's not really full speed :(

Into the wind we go then. I want to saddle up next to them or as close as we can get.

Oxandren bellows and hoots as ammunition flies through the air "We’re almost close enough!"
OOC:
I will take Fire at will action to give advantage on the mangonel shot

As the two vessels draw nearer, Zale takes another huge swig from his jug of grog and leads the crew in a rousing song!

We live each day like there's nothing to lose
But a man has needs and that need is booze
They say all the best things in life are free
So give all your beer and your rum to me!

'Cause we are here to drink your beer!
Drink! Drink!
OOC:
I don't know if this even qualifies as an action. It's okay if it does nothing.

I like it! I will probably catch us up on this game tomorrow, need to figure out how I want the ship approach to work. :)
Feb 26, 2019 2:43 am
OOC:
Long ass tomorrow... my apologies!
Thanks to Mr. Ariti and Miri's efforts, your craft surges towards the reeling enemy craft, closing the ground to the point that your deckhands manage to throw grappling hooks over the edge, hooking the rails of the other ship. With a heave and quick handwork, you find your ships lashed together.

For those that would like to board, it will take an athletics or acrobatics check (DC15) to cross the gap of the moving ships safely. If you fail, make a Dexterity save (DC10) to avoid falling into the ocean!

"I'm coming up so you'd better get this boarding party started!"

Srisa magestically strides across the deck of her ship and then vaults over the side. But, jumping through the air was still a strange thing to the fish girl and she sunk much faster than anticipated.

She cried "FOR FISH'S SAKE!" all the way down until she hit the water.

Roscoe leaps across the gap with a gleeful whoop! He trips on some stray rigging and would have fallen, but the same rigging swings him across the gap to land cleanly on the deck of the enemy vessel.

OOC:
Shit. I'll use Mingle with the Wind to keep myself from falling.
With a not so graceful leap the genesis looks to start falling before stopping in mid air as if standing on land. "Ha. Must still has my land legs." He pulls himself up the side of the enemy ship with the ease of a spider. Drawing his windblades he calls out. "Wrong ship to hit my friends."

Zale resists the urge to dive after Srisa when he sees her fall. He stands his ground near the captain, prepared to repel boarders.
Feb 26, 2019 3:58 pm
Valkur, bless me in battle. Hold me aloft and guide my blade

Oxandren’s heavy frame lifts off the deck of Sêlune's Grace as he flys over the gap last to make sure everyone has made it across.

Miri casts her eyes around the confounding sight of her companions enthusiastically hurling themselves into the water like lemmings with a bloodlust. She gives a sickeningly smug grin as she watches and begins to surreptitiously wave her wand. With theatrical nonchalance she struts to the edge of the boat, and just as it looks as though she might stride all the way into the water, a shimmering mist envelops her.

The sea fades from view and the half-elf enters a new scene: a bridge of shining white stone spanning a wondrously still and impossible dense forest below. The air itself seems to glitter. Only the breeze and pleasantly alien birdsong punctuates the silence. The bridge extends into mist on both sides. Miri takes in the view as she takes the brisk walk from one cloud into the other.

Emerging again from mist on the opposing ship, the sound of combat once again fills her ears. She holds her arms wide and surveys the scene with the same anticipation of a sculptor observing an exquisite but unformed slab of marble. With nary a glance and a flick of her wrist, a beam of silvery white rushes forth from her wand toward an unfortunate sailor.

Cecillia stays on their ship, not one for close quarters combat. Or leaping across boats.
OOC:
I can fly if absolutely necessary.

The first boarding action by the Grace's sailors is anything but graceful, with several missing the leap or stumbling and landing on the other ship sprawled on their faces. The ridiculous display causes a moment of mirth in the pirates on the other vessel as they break into laughter at the sight.

You can see a dozen armed and armored individuals on the other ship, now advancing towards your party. They look underfed, and some far weaker than you'd suspect hardened criminals to be. Several have patches over an eyes, and two have pegged legs.

Srisa hits the water like an Olympic diver, leaving barely any splash behind. It feels so good to be back in her native environment where her limbs don't weigh a ton and you can move around in three dimensions with ease. She almost second guesses her decision to visit the surface world, but vanishes the thought.

She's got a job to do.

She uses her momentum and gains speed, all the while calling upon the waves to propel her upward. The ocean obeys, and extends itself up to the deck of the ship, making a river for Srisa to swim up. She breaches the magical river like a dolphin, and lands with a splash on the deck, spraying the guffawing pirates with sea water.

Glistening with water, she draws her ancestral sword and beckons to the pirates to come hither.

OOC:
Action: cast wall of water with Triton racial ability. Move: swim up the wall of water and land on the deck as close to the pirates as possible.
