Chapter One: Outbreak

Taken aback by the woman's confrontation with the captain, Elendin murmured to Wynn, "Friend of yours?"
Feb 3, 2019 6:25 pm
Wynn murmurs back, surprised by all of the humans who have come to his defense. "Well, I didn't have any friends when the night began, but I seem to be making a lot of them in rapid succession."
Feb 3, 2019 6:47 pm
With a tiny cough, El replies, "Yes, well, I can't help noticing that most of those new friends are holding us at swordpoint, so your technique may want some revision."
Feb 3, 2019 7:02 pm
"True. Very true." Wynn nods his head, contemplating the circumstance. "I wouldn't consider them very good friends." He appends his statement quickly, and quietly so only El can hear, "But in truth, I don't know what you humans consider friendly." He smiles at her as if he had said nothing out of the ordinary.
Feb 3, 2019 7:17 pm
El gave a discreet snort at his joke. "Well, we humans certainly appreciate that you took time from your godly existence to come down and see how we fumble about in times of crisis. Some of us appreciate it more than others, of course. This captain, for instance, is probably upset that your rainstorm wilted his coiffure."
Feb 3, 2019 7:36 pm
Conner speaks up before the two can be led away by the guards. "Don't you think it would be a better idea to find out how this fire started than to be overly concerned about someone who helped to put it out? There could be a criminal running around out here that you are letting get clean away."

OOC:
Jovian, giving you a chance to chime in before I move forward with the scene.
Feb 4, 2019 7:14 pm
OOC:
Hallion would be keeping an eye on things, but having offered to be a witness before the magistrate would not feel like there's much more he can do at this point. If Elendin and Wynn are led away Hallion will follow at a discrete distance.

Genisisect says:
OOC:
If it counts for anything, I can also apply my proficiency with cartography tools to make it more of a recording of the runes. RE the choice I was thinking that she could be preparing for the lift while Venture does the sketch. Then the two of them would hoist him out together. If it can't end up that way, my vote is give it a check and then we can deal with the consequences if the roll fails together...
OOC:
It does count for something and sure what the hell.
There was far too much here for you to record everything here before you in the brief time you had. Taking in the runes, you realised in a flashing of insight that they began in a middle point and ran in spirals. With the basic understanding of how the runes were arranged, you recorded the parts that you felt were of the most value. Something about summoning, strengthening and maintaining...
somebox says:
OOC:
I will stand by Genisisct's plan. Rolling raw strength.
You ran around the man, trussing him up with your rope before tying handhold knots. While Ventrue was preoccupied with the symbols, you tried to give the man a pull but he was going nowhere with just your efforts. Eventually Ventrue came and joined you and you both began dragging the man from the basement. As you toiled, some of the city guards joined you and together you got the man into the street.
OOC:
@Everyone:
A man was pulled from the home by a childlike figure and a large figure that only vaguely human to your eyes and the city guard. As the man was removed from the home, there was a creaking noise that got louder before there was a number of cracking noise, as the home collapsed in on itself. The woman from the home looked up from her children and gave a strangled cry and clung to her children as she noticed what was going on. The doctor made his way over to the man and began to try and treat the man.
OOC:
**Rolls**
There was a noticeable moment as the Russo visibly sagged as if the weight of the night, had fallen on him all at once before his back straightened and he made his way back over to the woman and her children. He said something quietly to her and she began to sob uncontrollably. The doctor continued to speak with her, before you saw him press a leather purse into her hand and embracing her.
kadeton says:
With the doctor and family taken care of, Margaret turned her attention back to the rest of the operation. The fire was seemingly dealt with, and everyone was safe... but a group of guards were leading two civilians away, while the crowd looked on.

"What's happened?" she asked a bystander.
"Dunno," the man whispered. "One of 'em sang a song and made it rain, or summat. T'other one told a story 'bout it bein' a magic trick. Cap'n's taking 'em to the magistrate to sort it all out."

At the word "magic", Margaret's heart skipped a beat. The fire had been suspiciously easy to deal with, considering. Was it possible that there was actual magic involved? Regardless, it didn't sound like these people had done anything to warrant their arrest, and that offended her sense of justice.

Buoyed by a mix of excitement and righteous anger, she ran to intercept the foppish guard leader. "Captain! What's the meaning of this? Who are your prisoners, and what is their crime?"
The captain whirled around tearing his eyes away from the scene before you all.

"That is none of your concern, madam but if you must know they are being taken in for questioning in relation to the blaze. Currently, they have not been charged with anything, which will be up to the magistrate to decide. Now clear off, all of you.

With that last sentence, the city guard began dispersing the crowd. There was some muttering but by and large, the crowd seemed content to go back to their night.
OOC:
If anyone wants to make a charisma check to see if you can get the crowd to side with the (very valid) arguments you are making, now would be a good time.

Aldrusian says:

The captain turned to face you and you could see that he was rapidly running out of patience. His jaw was clenched and you swear you saw his eye twitch.

"We appreciate your concern, sir and of course all leads will be investigated. While these individuals did indeed assist in putting the fire out, there is some questions surrounding how they did it and if they represent a danger to the general public.

OOC:
Understood :)
OOC:
@Everyone: While I'm thoroughly enjoying watching you guys work that poor captain over, I will give you one more round to influence what happens next, otherwise we will move forward.

Their work complete Venture taps the small figure on the head affectionately with s rolled up piece of parchment. I feel like our work here is complete Lara, we have some considerations to make. I know a nice inn nearby.
Feb 6, 2019 6:56 am
"Captain, you don't seem to be suggesting that these people started the fire, merely that they aided in putting it out in a way that you don't personally understand. Is that truly your most pressing concern at this moment, with an arsonist on the loose? I imagine that these fine citizens, who have risked their lives to put out this blaze, would prefer that you focus your efforts on doing your job and catching whoever burned down these houses before they strike again!"
OOC:
Making a Persuasion check to try to get the crowd's support.

Edit: well, shit. :P

Balara offers a toothy grin, nodding with Venture's plan. "I share your enthusiasm, lead the way." Her spirits at an all time high, she tries not to show her excitement, lest the people stare.
Feb 6, 2019 7:11 am
Beginning to feel uneasy, El affects a jocular tone as she murmurs to Wynn, "Given your godlike status, I suppose it's no real concern to you, but I'm beginning to worry that this well-meaning young lady might actually talk us onto the gallows."

Leading on Venture heads away from the crowd.
OOC:
I think me and Lara are leaving the scene unless stopped...

"You see, Captain, I'm not the only person who thinks you're making a grievous error in hauling these people before the magistrate. You and I are both aware how an accusation in this town is just as bad as being found guilty of a crime.

"I agree. While they both make a good point, the Captain does not seem incredibly happy, and we could be the target of his frustrations." Wynn murmurs back to El.

There were a few murmurs from the crowd that was at your back but they continued to disperse despite your words. They seemed content to let the guard conduct the investigation in the way that they saw fit, for now anyway. A few more fires might just change their mind but for now, their apathy was stronger. The leader of the guards just stared at you saying nothing before nodding and the guards, moved forward and pushed you aside.
Aldrusian says:
"You see, Captain, I'm not the only person who thinks you're making a grievous error in hauling these people before the magistrate. You and I are both aware how an accusation in this town is just as bad as being found guilty of a crime.
"That may be your opinion sir and you may have the right to say it but do not presume to speak for me. Now stand aside and let us do our job."

As he spoke, the guards moved forward and roughly pushed you to one side as they began to move back down the street and out of sight.
OOC:
What do you want to do now mate? At this point the world is your oyster? Check out the night markets, grab a drink, head on over to the entertainment district?
OOC:
@kadeton: Same question.

The guards formed loosely around the pair of you and began moving through the street. Before long you reached a small dock with a number of flat bottom boats tied to it. The guards made their way forward and began to untie the vessels, leaving you unattended except for the captain and the figure that had agreed to be your witness.
OOC:
@Jovian, I am going to assume you are here as well.

OOC:
Nah you won’t be stopped, since the guard seems to have bigger fish to fry than a couple of good Samaritans. Like the guy that summoned a rain cloud out of nowhere and the girl that claims to be able to do similar stuff. Now given where we are your closest inn would be…*checks notes*…the Blue Dolphin, it’s a well-known and very old establishment in the Seafront district.
Feb 8, 2019 3:16 pm
Margaret isn't the sort to let a miscarriage of justice go, or to be dissuaded by the fact that there are very few people willing to stand beside her. Clearly a direct confrontation isn't going to work, so she's just going to discreetly follow the guards to their destination.
Feb 8, 2019 5:15 pm
"Oh, and Elendin..." Wynn leans in, while there is a brief lapse in those watching them. "Thank you for trying to help me. I haven't been here long, but.. well, its comforting to know the lengths some will go to help a stranger." He smiles at her, before a flash of thought passes behind his eyes. "Noting that, please be honest with the Magistrate." He straightens back up, sending an innocent smile to the Captain.
Feb 8, 2019 7:35 pm
El allows a very slight quirk into her own smile. "I'm always honest, Wynn," she says quietly, adding, "when it makes sense to be."

She takes a surreptitious glance around. Yes, she had promised she wouldn't resist, and she probably wouldn't, but it never hurt to maintain a healthy situational awareness, in case an opportunity to escape arose and it seemed like a better option than staying put. Catching a glimpse of the woman who'd challenged the captain, she nudges Wynn. "Don't look now, but our passionate defender against injustice seems to be following us."
