Ug sprints up from the back of the group to pound on one of the shambling moops with Ghotrag's axe, all the while singing a lumberjacking song his mama allegedly taught him:

Just who is Ug's mother? If all goes smoothly, the companions might just find out.

The companions spring into action as the monsters close in, but dizzying kaleidoscope of glowing lights has them struggling to see their foes clearly. What's more, the fire of Alalla's sword does not inflict the pain she might have hoped for in attacking a fungus monster (Al takes 18 bludgeoning damage, and after resistance Ug takes 8).

Meanwhile, the two fomorians leer down with grotesque faces, and Alalla and Vincent each feel disturbing magic at work on them. Alalla manages to shake it off the worst of it, but Vincent trembles as his own body twists and cracks in response to the magic's demands (Alalla takes only 16 psychic damage. After resistance Vincent takes 11 psychic damage, but is also subject to the Curse of the Evil Eye).

The mounds smash away at the heroes with painted, fleshy limbs, and then suddenly Reòthadh is swept from his feet and engulfed by a thick carpet of bright violet fungus (Reo takes 34 bludgeoning damage). Before the companions can wonder if they did wrong in bringing an aged dwarf down into this dangerous place, the mound shudders and swells, then rips as Reòthadh doubles in size, rising free of the bloated thing.

Brought into existence by the dwarf sorcerer's magic, the sleet storm hides the fomorians from the heroes' view, but two rattling thumps shake the cavern as the giants slip and fall within the storm.

With a rumble Ras' spell churns the stone beneath the mounds. The fungus monsters do not relent, however, and even the one that tried to consume Reòthadh pulls itself back together to continue its attack.

The misshapen face of one of the fomorians appears as it crawls out of the sleet storm.

Ug attempts to twist his axe for a deeper wound but only manages slight nudge. His hands are sweaty with anticipation and the axe is hard to grip. He had been longing to return here to mama for what seemed like ages. And apparently it really had been? Ugs mind was still trying to understand that concept. While some things were hard to remember, there was one piece he did. Ug had promised to return home to mama, and that promise was long long overdue.

Ug snarls as dark veins run from his bare chest down his arm. The sweat on his hand crystallizes and his axe erupts in an icy flame.

Mound 1 takes an additional 2 damage and is knocked prone. Ug activates crimson rite, taking 14 damage.

Quick edits to the statblock that I'm too lazy to actually make: Fomorian 2 should have a prone symbol instead of a red diamond, he's in the middle between the sleet storm and the mounds.

Mound 1 is also supposed to have a prone symbol.

Vince has that curse thing. Anything that gets rid of curses can get rid of it.

With a burst of awesome, Vincent feels like he almost got cursed, but was able to shake it off instead. Seeing SM1 go down, he aims at SM2.

Ras is horrified by the shambling mounds and tries not to gag at their nasty presence. Seeing the fomorian peeking out, he instinctively shoots it in the ugly face with a lightning bolt. The bolt disappears into the sleet and a roar tells Ras that he's managed to hit the other formorian too. One branching arc of the lightning bolt also shoots out and hits one of the shambling mounds (SM2).

Alalla sees a sign of weakness from the most wounded mound and immediately strikes with exactness. Her flaming sword burns out its core and it falls to the ground.

She picks the next most wounded one as her target, but finds that it is again much more mobile and hard to pin down. She barely manages to hit the thing, but twists her sword in such a way as to knock it off balance.

SM1 takes 41 lethal damage. SM4 takes 20 damage and must make a strength save or be knocked prone. .

The modified weapon does little to ease Ugs nerves. His swings go wide and he is lucky to connect with a glancing blow. m4 takes 29 slashing and 1 cold damage

The Sorcerer hacks at the mound as it tries to engulf him, using his size to his advantage. Upon seeing the fomorians slip on the ice, he searches for a large stone roughly the size of a large gourd and launches it toward the grotesque giants.

Reòthadh casts Booming Blade on SH4 and quickens a 4th level Catapult towards the fomorians.

His axe sweeps upward, striking the abhorrent plant with a surge of force, ready to explode should the mound move. Frost collects over the gashs made by the giant dwarf.

Shambling Mound 4 takes 11 slashing, 9 thunder, and 4 cold damage. The first Fomorian to fail the Dex save (DC 17) must take 33 bludgeoning damage.

Erevain whips his sword back and forth through the sword forms he learned as a Greycloak of Evereska, simultaneously slamming the nearest one with arcane thunder. Through it all he keeps a careful eye on Ug, ready to step in and guard the barbarian's back.

The battle carries on as heroes struggle against monstrous fungi and hideodorous giants. One of the shambling mounds bruises Alalla's shoulder with a powerful slam (Al takes 14 damage), but her retaliating strike cuts deeply enough to sever its core. As the thing erupts into flame, the fires spread to the nearest mound (For Al's crit and the thing's 1, we'll tack on that the fire damage from Al's sword on that hit ALSO applies to Mound 2).

Vincent feels a surge of dark strength as the plant monster dies, and then his well-aimed arrows put the next flaming fungus out of its misery (Mound 2 also dead).

Ug's crazed swings cost him today, even with Erevain attempting to cover his blind spots. Two of the mounds seize him with crushing limbs, and then a moment later the barbarian is turned upside down and hoisted into the air, legs kicking as he is engulfed from the waist up (after resistance Ug takes 27 bludgeoning damage, and is also grappled, blinded, restrained, unable to breathe, and must make a DC Con save each turn or take another 2d8+4 bludgeoning damage. It is Mound 3 who has him engulfed).

The nearest fomorian pulls itself to its feet and lashes out at Reòthadh with a large, hardened mushroom stem, buffeting the dwarf (Reo takes 26 bludgeoning damage). Then Ras' powerful lightning bolt slams home, then, and continues on into the sleet storm. The fomorian roars and turns its ugly head toward Ras, filling the gnome's mind with horrible, twisted images (Ras takes 33 psychic damage). The giant shifts its weight as it considers what to do next, and accidentally steps back onto the magical ice behind it. It falls down onto its malformed rear.

Reòthadh's frostbrand axe bites fiercely into the closest mound, and a crack rings the air as a mix of cold and thunderous magic is released into the creature. The dwarf turns his attention to his next spell, and feels the power of the dwarven citadel beneath his boots. Whatever terrible fate befell Dorn's Deep, it seems as though the stone itself recognizes him as a long-lost friend. As the other fomorian stumbles from the sleet storm, a slab of stone rips free from a nearby wall and whips through the air, clobbering the ugly giant in the side of the head.

One of the mounds firms its grip on struggling Ug and tried to slip away from the battle, taking the half-engulfed barbarian with it (Everyone on the front line except Ug, obviously, can use their reaction for Round 2 to make an opportunity attack against Mound 3).

Ug has all of those debuffs, but they don't bother him too much since he can just cancel the disadvantage with Reckless Attack. He does have to make that DC 14 Con save or else take some more damage, but it shouldn't be a hard save for him.

A ripping and squelching sound can be heard as Ugs legs thrash about, followed by a dull humming. As the companions attacks dismantle the retreating mound, the barbarian rolls out of the oozing fungal mess and somehow regains his footing. He is also holding a vibrating maul instead of an axe and smiles through the rancid mess hanging from his face and horns. He lets out a ghostly whistle and then charges one of the giants. The racist maul deals much more damage than the frost axe had. F1 takes 60 damage

On cue from Ugs whistle, One of the collapsed mounds rises up for a one last attack, but this time aimed at the second giant lying prone. It successfully smashes into the giant before reverting back to its lifeless sludge. F2 takes 8 bludgeoning damage.

As the mound engulfing Ug shambles away, the goliath's companions try to bring it down, but it crunches down with bestial determination, cutting off Ug's air (after resistance Ug takes 8 bludgeoning damage). Alalla moves to give chase, but another mound stands in her way, fungus limb raised to smash her. Erevain darts forward and deflects the blow with his shield, and then buries his humming sword into the mound's center mass. A peal of thunder from the sword bursts the mound apart (Mound 4 dies).

With the way before her clear, Alalla charges forward to hack away at the mound carrying Ug. It wheels about to pound at her with its heavy limbs (Al takes 25 bludgeoning damage), but then her flaming sword and Vincent's arrows make short work of the strange creature (Mound 3 dies), and then Ug is free. The goliath's maul slams into one of the fomorians with incredible power, shattering bones thicker than his own meaty thigh.

The two fomorians turn with howls to regard the raging barbarian with such a hurtful weapon, and the magic of their disfigured faces torments Ug with his own feelings of betrayal and loss at being told to leave his mother all those years ago. How many years ago? The weight of mental anguish hits Ug harder than any literal ton of bricks ever could (Ug takes 61 psychic damage).

One of the fomorians follows up the devastating magical attack with a smack of its mushroom club, which sends the confused barbarian staggering (after resistance Ug takes 11 bludgeoning damage). The other ugly giant turns to stare down the other largest figure in the room: Reòthadh. It's fungal club raises high and comes down to bear on the old dwarf with all of the giant's considerable weight (Reo takes 29 bludgeoning damage, unless he casts Shield).

Then a deafening roar fills the colored cavern as Ras grows to an enormous size, taking form as the dreaded Tyrannosaurus Ras.

Reeling from the psychic damage, Ras feels himself growing angry. Glaring at the fomorians, he mutters under his breath and immediately begins to grow. In a matter of seconds, T-Ras stands in his place and roars at the baddies.
