How do you want to search the valley? Gethro is supposed to be here somewhere. Do you want to circle around the perimeter, head straight down the middle...?

OOC:
My preference would be to go around the perimeter, and maybe get a look at points to investigate. We might also stumble into things that want to investigate us, but I think we run that risk now no matter what.Jun 13, 2019 4:12 pm
Probably no updates until 6/18, in the meantime everybody please make TWO ability checks from the following list:
History, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival

Zangua lends his eyes and ears to the party's surroundings, studying the environment as they navigate the perimeter.

The party slowly works their way around the perimeter of the valley, circling up northward. Zangua picks up a broken sandal strap and flicks it away. Leth sees the discontinuities in the grass growing in the middle of the valley, consistent with claws rending the earth and feet trampling it: evidence of nothing on its own, but consistent with the story of the dragon attack. Domarc startles a pair of rabbits as he ranges ahead, finding himself drawn toward the vultures.
It's not long before the entire party finds themselves standing before the carrion birds' feast: two orcs, both their throats cut, with some other, nonfatal cuts and puncture wounds decorating their bodies. They don't look to have been dead for more than half a day or so. One vulture, bolder than the rest, stands on the ground, ignoring the party while it tears sinewy strips of neck muscle out of the wound that felled its meal.

"Two corpses, no waiting," Domarc observes, watching the vulture with grim amusement. "Should we check for tracks from whoever slit their throats?"
Jun 24, 2019 5:24 pm
Zangua nods. "Let's do that, and move on."

The freshest bootprints Zangua can find are a single set that head to the east a ways before running into stony ground and disappearing.

The haphazard way in which the orcs have been killed, and the state of their bodies, does not seem suggestive of a ritual sacrifice.
Everybody roll a Perception check.

Felor casts an eye over the scene - vultures may seem like grim, ugly creatures, but he knew they were a vital part of the natural systems. They quickly and efficiently disposed of carcasses which would otherwise putrefy and spread pestilence. Closing his eyes for a moment and drawing in breath, he mutters a brief prayer, before opening his eyes again to inspect the vulture and emit a drawn out croaking noise.

Zangua shrugs as the scene's evidence do not support his wild theory, and looks about.

Felor makes some further brief screeches, before turning to his companions, clearing his throat, and saying "Whoever killed these orcs is camping up there." He points at the shelter on the rocky hill to the east. "They are humanoid but... brown? So not an orc I'd wager."
orcs are green right?

"Right," Domarc says. "So if the killer is over there, maybe we shouldn't be standing about in the open like this?"
Jun 28, 2019 6:05 pm
"Nicely done, Felor. Tell your new friend he's got some good eating there. And I am agreed, Domarc. We've likely already been seen, we might as well introduce ourselves."
Mordred approaches the camp quietly, just in case they have not been spotted yet.
