LMoT - Return to Phandalin

Feb 13, 2019 9:39 pm
Leaving Old Owl Well you head back towards the Triboar Trail and Conyberry. You stop in the abandoned village again and take shelter in the same building you did previously.

- Leylin identifies the Ring he found to be a

Hammer 1, 1492

The night is cold and quiet and you awaken to a new year but the same brutal cold weather. You eat what you can and attempt to stay warm as much as possible and decide to get back to Phandalin sooner than later. You head west on the Triboar Trail heading back. After a half a day of travel you begin to notice a figure in the distance on the trail. It is moving steadily from what you can tell but you are definitely making ground on it. At this pace you will overcome it within the hour.

After glancing into the ring's arcane nature, I hand it over to Spark.

— You stay on the frontline, so this should keep you ... safe-er.

Assuming Leylin also explained the nature of the ring
— Oh waow, really? I mean, it certainly makes sense, but it amazes me that you hand it to me like. Maybe we just met on a bad day... After a second lost in thoughts, a broad smile illuminates my face and I accept the valuable gift.
Well thank you, I really appreciate it! I already owe so much, and this further increases my debt to you. I'll do my best to put it to good use so that its protection serves you as much as it serves me.
I then go to our artificial friend, and hand him the magical longsword I've been carrying for several days now. Do you think this mighty weapon may serve you? I've been delighted and honored to use since we found it, but I must admit it is a bit heavy for me to use it comfortably.

Yes, Leylin told Spark about the ring's enchantment. Now that I'm looking at my sheet - there was "a scroll inside a bone tube (A Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard recognizes it as a scroll of Darkness)". Leylin would hand it over to anyone that is capable of using it. I guess it's Spark and Bebaral?

Also - who has healing potions? Except for Leylin :) And can warforged use them in 5e?
Feb 14, 2019 3:09 pm
OOC:
Spark, what kid of sword is it? Longsword?

Kuroi, warforged ar categorized as humanoid even thought they were built.
Nine looks over the blade and ponders, This one would be honored to wield such a blade but are you sure you do not wish to use it?
Feb 14, 2019 4:34 pm
OOC:
Nine: as stated (in an edit, so you might have missed it) Talon is a magical +1 longsword.
Leylin: Spark can use such scrolls, yes, and already has two of them (Fireball and Charm Person). But if he were to carry a Darkness scroll, he'd probably use it to Bebaral's benefit
— You have proved to be a worthy fighter and an honorable ally. And even if I love having such a powerful sword in my hands, I'm aware that I'm not as good with it as I am with... well, my good old swords here. I tend to favor lighter blades so that they don't impede my mobility.

Letharia continue to walk with her mind on her task. As she walks she keeps an eye on her surroundings while keeping her cloak pulled around her from the cold. Finally, after some time with a quick look over her shoulder notices that there is a group of travelers behind her.

She thinks about quickening her pace but then seeing that one of their members is pretty big decides that if they want to catch up they probably can. Best to save her energy if things go bad. Besides it is probably nothing but her own imagination. It is a road after all and she is most likely not the only traveler to be on it.

Spark, you're right! I missed the edit!
The construct smiles, [b]Many thanks, Spark. This one will make good use of the weapon.
Nine takes the magical blade. Swinging the blade through the air a few times Nine points ahead of the group, What do you think that person is doing out here alone? It is too dangerous to travel by one's self.

As a side note...I am also going to hand wave the Staff of Defense that Gu'lorg had to stay with the party...it is a good magic item that i hate to see just disappear...I think the only one that can wield it is Spark but take a look and decide as a group.

There was also some coin left behind and a healing potion...does anyone specifically grab those? Leylin says he pushes the valuables aside.

specifically: a leather bag containing 35 sp, 20 ep, 20 gp, 5 pp, one pearl, a potion of healing
Feb 14, 2019 8:25 pm
OOC:
I already added those to Leylin's inventory :D
Not that he's too materialistic, but ... I won't go into details - there are reasons :)
OOC:
Staff can be used by both Spark and Bebaral. And with some micro-management both can benefit from Mage Armor as it's an 8 hour non-concentration spell.

The staff is an amazing item and would actually turn Spark into an amazing frontliner:
- Current armor + Shield + Ring : AC 19
- Staff + Mage armor + Ring + Shield : AC 21 (18 without Mage Armor) + the ability to use the Shield spell if needed

However, his attacks would suffer from it:
- Shortsword : +6 to hit, 1d6+4
- Staff : +4 to hit, 1d8+2 (the staff grants no bonus to attacks made with it, right?

Mage Armor being a touch spell and not a self spell, it would actually be rather easy to cast it on Spark and Bebaral.
OOC:
[jk]Gimmy that sword back : I want to be Gandalf that fights with a magical staff and a longsword ! :D (I just need the Dual Wielder feat to do that)
... I actually love that idea ! :o

Forgot that in 5e it's not limited to self... Anyway - you're not forced to use the staff to fight, just cast Mage armor with it and wield it if need to 'tank' :D
And get a rapier in Phandalin to enhance your damage potential, we have money for it.

Also, Leylin could remove his Leather armor and get 1 more AC with Mage Armor cast on him. :D

Mage Armor to everyone! We'll be a Mage Armored Corps! xD
Feb 15, 2019 1:45 pm
OOC:
Yeah, Mage Armored Corps would be an awesome name to go by :D
I don't know for the rapier ; while it only have mechanical upsides, I don't like it fluff-wise. On the other hand, that staff/longsword thing is suboptimal for me (both use strength) but just looks awesome!

I'm not positive but the staff is actually made of glass and I don't believe it is intended to be used as a melee weapon at all.
Feb 15, 2019 7:35 pm
OOC:
I'd think that the part "made of glass yet is as strong as oak" is for using it as a weapon

Fair enough and a quick google search confirmed that.

Let's get back into RP. shall we? :)
— Sometimes it's better to travel alone, Nine. - I say while looking at the back of the person moving further ahead.
