Chapter 1: Past Present and Future

Alyx helps tie both herself and Ian to the rope as quickly as she can. Being so short, she starts to float and has to tread water as she works. "Ok, Ian," she says, muffled by the rebreather. "Let me know if I can do anything else to help," she adds, but the strained tone seems to indicate she is either doubtful about her usefulness, or stressed about the situation... Perhaps both.

OOC:
Hey everyone. Just letting you all know that I haven't ghosted you or anything. I'm just a tad busy with work at the moment. Things should quiten down before the end of the week
Apr 30, 2019 12:24 am
OOC:
Terribly sorry about the delay everyone.
You all make your way deeper into the maze. It is very dark but the green light on the opposite side of the room is clearly your goal. The water climbs its way up the roof slowly but steadily. It is easy to make progress at first. But as the water level rises, it starts to bog you all down and you're certain that eventually, it will cover the entire room.
OOC:
How are you going to attempt to cross the room? I would like you all to make a check. You can choose the kind of check within reason. So if you wish to navigate the maze you can roll survival. If you wish to power your way through it roll athletics. If you wish to co-ordinate the teams efforts roll leadership etc.
Apr 30, 2019 2:08 am
Zepharo is not a strong swimmer, and certainly not a leader, he figures the best way in which he can contribute is to just use his wits to try to puzzle through the thing, by maintaining a situational awareness and focus on the big picture of just making out out alive.
OOC:
Survival. Difficulty?

EDIT: In a real maze, all you can see is what is immediately around you, which I would say would be harder - more disorienting - than being able to always see your goal and better tell where any given path is taking you.

IMO, solving mazes isn't about the walls, it's about understanding where you are, and methodology, rolling Diff...

As you have no way of seeing the invisible walls lets say difficulty 4.
Apr 30, 2019 6:39 am
As the waters continue to rise, Evelynn feels a brief surge of panic start to overwhelm her as she wends her way through the convoluted maze, guiding the others as best she can by example. However, as the water rises up over her chin and begins to cover her mouth, she remembers that she has some advantages in this situation: her vision isn't based on light-sensitive sight, she can feel the walls surrounding them, she had remembered to pack a rebreather and with her sibilngs near her she knows that they can pass them around as needed, and lastly she knows that the Force has guided her here. This is where her destiny lays. Disciplining her mind against the fear, she continues to press forward, following her perception of the maze and makes her way towards the glowing green light.
OOC:
I'm going to make both a Discipline check and a Perception check and I'll let you decide which one I can use. Discipline is her mastering her fear to calmly and efficiently move through the passages she can sense. Perception would be simply her feeling her way with her sight through the maze. You can let me know which you'd prefer I use and the difficulty. Also gonna negotiate with you for a boost die on the Discipline check due to reasons stated in RP post, being prepared and being able to sense the walls etc.

Rolls

Discipline check

3 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 3 Success, 1 Advantage

Perception check

2 Success

Total: 2 Success

Difficulty for Discipline check.

1 Threat

Total: 1 Threat

OOC:
I think discipline works well here but I will let you decide upon the difficulty as only you can decide how deeply the environment effects her emotional state.

OOC:
Welcome back...

Can I have a bit more sensory feedback on my last post?
Apr 30, 2019 11:52 am
OOC:
I think Average difficult sounds fair. Sure, the water is rising/has risen over her head, but she has a rebreather, she can still see. For her it's more controlling that initial spike of the fear of drowning that everyone has. I'll roll 2 dice, if you feel it warrants a 3rd or a black setback die you can add it in.
Apr 30, 2019 1:03 pm
Despite Ian's paranoia about the situation earlier the water rising seems to almost calm him. Maybe it's the direct threat to survival instead of ghosts, maybe it's having a problem he's actually equipped to do something about. Either way, Ian follows along with the others, starring at the handheld scanner for as long as he can to memorize the best path ahead, all the while breathing deeply. Then, as the water gets to his waist he puts the scanner in one of the waterproof pouches of his backpack before acting.

Instead of blindly pushing through, the human reaches out to grab at the invisible walls, keeping the map in his head, he attempts to use their corners and surfaces to help push him through the maze faster than he could walk. However, when the reaches his chest he looks back at Alyx, who is probably already underwater with a worried frown.
OOC:
I will take that Threat as strain.
As he starts to lose track of his memory of the scanner image he looks around. They are underwater, hampered by invisible walls and darkness. At first they could see the water cut by the edges of those barriers, but now, with the water all the way up, they have nothing. Some air escapes his mouth as he eases the pressure on his lungs a bit before his indigo eyes open in surprise. Reaching down to his belt he draws his training saber and holds the emitter end to one of the invisible walls. The ignition sound is muffled, of course, but instead of a blade, the wall lights up, in fact, all of them do, with a ghostly green glow. The walls are not transparent, otherwise his blaster shot from before would still be visible: therefore, they bent light, focused it and changed it. The walls were kyber crystal, harnessed through the force to pull and focus light in a network, because otherwise each wall would distort the ones behind it.
OOC:
Magic crystals. I'm pretty sure that's how science works.

Rolls

Coordination to use the walls to his advantage

6 Success, 1 Triumph, 2 Threat

Total: 6 Success, 2 Threat, 1 Triumph

Apr 30, 2019 3:10 pm
OOC:
I think I will have Alyx roll athletics since it's her highest skill
Alyx has been keeping as calm as she can while the water rises up, but even with the bouyancy it provides, her head is under water before long. She dog paddles for a while, but takes a few breaks where she just allows herself to sink and the water to flow over her completely, utilizing the fact that she has a rebreather and knowledge of how to swim to keep her emotions under control and serene.

OOC:
@Carabas: Sorry. That one slipped through.
The wall feels wet to the touch but when you look at your hand it is perfectly dry. You can feel the scorch marks where the blaster rifle clearly damaged the wall. The floor is now covered in water, so finding anything would be very difficult.
Apr 30, 2019 10:26 pm
OOC:
@Ian: For your triumph why don't you come up with a way of making the walls visible for everyone?

OOC:
Given that we're all connected by the Fo- eh, Zeph's rope, we maybe should work out what order we're in?
(taking Threats as Strain...)
Taryn mutters in frustration as the crystal fragments keep slipping through his fingers and getting washed away by the incoming water.

He has to abandon the task as the rope connecting them starts to run out.

The water doesn't really bother him that much though, benefit of spending a lot of time with Zafe growing up.

The sudden green glare makes him shield his eyes for a moment. Some kind of... Kyber? Damn lucky that blaster shot didn't blow the cave sky high. But it's not in crystallised form. Must have different properties like this. Does that even exist? Makes some kind of sense though. Kyber crystals are supposed to be invisible until they 'choose their owner' or whatever.

"Look, we're still attached to each other. We can't get lost when we have each other. Eve and Ian can find us a path, and the rest of us can just relax, and follow them."

Now that Ian has made the wall visible the maze is a less daunting challenge.
OOC:
Everyone may recover 1 strain.
You navigat about half the distance to your goal when the green glowing walls change to a deep crimson colour.

You listen as the sound of grinding stone becomes louder and louder and you feel a current begin to form. It gets stronger and stronger and seems to be trying to push you back towards the starting area.
OOC:
Flip Destiny token mwah ha ha.
OOC:
Please make an athletics check difficulty 2 please everyone but don't narrate your success or failure. I will take care of that this time. You may definitely think about and write you think may have caused this current or how this change effects youe character's emotional state.
May 5, 2019 2:19 pm
Just when Ian holds out a hand towards Alyx, motioning for the rebreather she has the current rises up, starting to push them back towards the entrance. Gripping onto the wall, Ian does his best to hold on, though the rest of the air in his lungs bubbles out in the process. Whatever panic migh normally be caused by a life or death situation hardness into a cold, emotionless focus that while not expressly angry or panicked couldn't be labeled as calm by any means.

Zepharo grits his teeth, being tied together would no doubt make this new development more challenging, they'd need to act as one more than ever...

He begins swimming in a free-form stroke, shouting out direction as much as he can on breaths. And as he does so, he draws on a source of strength from deep inside, whether he knows it or not...

Alyx chokes at the sight of Ian being completely submerged, and uses the rope lashed between them to quickly pull her to him. Taking a deep breath, she holds it and removes her rebreather, trying to put it onto Ian. She touches him and desperately tries to grasp the invisible thread between them, that thing that let her always know when he was close, and whether he was feeling brave or just faking it-

As gently as she can, she helps him put the rebreather on, trying to focus on the familiar sense of him within her mind. Ian, you'll be ok. We'll all be ok. I'm here.
OOC:
I have no idea if this is allowed, but I figure I can always ask forgiveness later instead of approval now lol. Also, do I need to roll to help Ian put the rebreather on? I don't see how, but it's up to you Arina
OOC:
Argh, forgot a green....

Evelynn was just beginning to feel confident, despite being completely under water as she moved forward. Reaching what she gauged as roughly the half-way mark, she turned to glance back at the others and see if anyone nearby was in need of her breather, when the light suffusing the room shifted from green to red. Before she even had a chance to brace herself, the current hit her from where she led the group and she felt powerless to fight against it.
