"What was that?" questions Dr. Armitage. "A distress call the moment we leave the ground? I smell a rat. Gotta be a trap."

"Assessment: Most likely."
Tiny looks towards the gun turret.
"Statement: I am on it!"
Tiny hops into the firing seat and takes aim at nothing in particular. Anybody near the hatch can hear him talking to himself; " Aggression: Pew. Pew. Pew. Die imperials. Pew Pew"

Mo glances around at the others sitting in the cockpit and shrugs as he says, " It could be a trap. Or it could be folks that need help. I'm inclined to go check it out and see what's up. I think Tiny agrees with me. What do the rest of you say?"
While the others are deliberating what they want to do, Mo plugs the coordinates into the navicomputer so he can jump as soon as a decision is made.

"Hey, I'm just here to patch you guys up when you do something stupid. No offense but the universe is dangerous enough without us falling into a trap the moment we step out he door. So let's be very careful."

Deks didn’t find anyone at the Dorsal hydrolics and decides to fix that himself as they lift off, seeing as this is the least connected system. He shuts off the power supply from the engines to the turret manually and sets to work. It’s a short and easy job, but Deks is a bit disappointed nobody else picked it up.
After Fixing the system Deks comes to the cockpit to check if they are in Hyperspace yet. Usually he would be able to know by the sound of the engines, but with it being a new ship and all…
There he finds most of the crew in a bit of an argument about a distress call just received. He leans into the small doorframe of the cockpit with all four hands, subconsciously blocking the entire hallway.
"Hmmm, Should always check it out, next time we’ll be on the pleading end of such a signal y’know. Just my opinion though, we have a schedule to keep and all…"
He scratches the stubble on his chin for a moment.
"Dorsal is working now, I thought I would get started on the shields."

One affirmative answer is sufficient for Mo, who engages the course programmed into the navicomputer towards the distress signal. He jumps on ship comms and says, "Hey guys, just a head's up, we received a distress call. Some trader ship hit by pirates. Should be about four hours out. Be ready for combat when we jump in."
Turning towards Deks he nods and says, "You and I think the same on that, it seems. Four hours to fix the shields or things might get bumpy. You need help with it? Once we hit hyperspace the ship basically flies itself."

OOC:
I'm assuming I need to make an Astrogation, so I'll do my roll (and assume I get a boost die from someone up in the cockpit helping me out check the numbers before I punch it in) and you can add the difficulty dice.Last edited April 15, 2019 12:05 pm
Rolls
Astrogation to commercial ship
2 Success, 1 Advantage
Total: 2 Success, 1 Advantage

OOC:
Just an FYI, I put the difficulty explanation in the OOC thread a couple days ago. But I can totally roll them for you.1 success 3 threat
The ship groans and creaks as Mo brings up the hyperdrive, and as the stars blur past the canopy the hyperdrive makes some very unnerving sounds. A moment passes where the crew say nothing to each other, and just listen to the drive pulasting a rhythmic groaning sound.
They all look at Deks, who is looking off in the distance studying the sound with his head cocked to one side.
He recognizes the sound as air in the hyperdrive cooling regulator. A [Simple] fix but you need to go easy on the drive until you jump out of hyperspace.
OOC:
Travel time increased by 3 hours bring the one way jump to 7 hours.Rolls
Difficulty for astrogation
1 Failure, 4 Threat
Total: 1 Failure, 4 Threat

"Kark! This ship has truely been mauled by a rampaging ronto!"
Deks takes a moment to listen.
"Sounds like the cooling regulator, easy enough fix. I’ll handle it. If anybody can do some prepping on the shields I’ll be right along."
Deks sets off two arms trailing the rounded walls of the ships interior, another already retrieving a tool from a pocket, the last pulling up his pants under his long coat.
He immediately sets to work on the cooling regulator after removing a panel, a simple piece of tape and a few handy re-routes should do the job.
"Easy enough" Deks mumbles confidently as he places the panel back.
"Off to the shields. In case that distress call is not what it seems… otherwise I’m back on fixing hull again."
He continues the internal monologue as he arrives at the shields, hoping to find somebody there. In either case he starts repairing away.
(presuming the boost, otherwise leave it out)

Tiny remains in the turret, waiting for any sign of a hostile vessel to appear. Most people who know him would have never seen him as lucid and alert as he is in this moment. He is ready. The gun is ready. Together they are become death, destroyer of imperials.

Dr. Armitage, having no knowledge of how to access the shields nor any regarding how they operate, stands just outside the bridge as
Deks walks past him. He makes no move to follow or help the mechanic.

OOC:
The cooling system was a [Simple] check which means no dice are required. With that in mind, the threat from the first roll will be ignored. It was mostly a narrative tool to explain the threat generated from the astrogation check. That power plug won't get the better of him this time. It takes about 7 hours of tinkering, testing, power cycling, and the shield power is restored. Deks also found a couple shortcuts that were able to improve the efficiency of the system (remove all ship strain, remove critical injury to shields).
The repair was a lot of work, and its been a long day Deks takes 1 strain. But Deks is on a roll with repairs, just a few more left until everything is running properly.
OOC:
We'll carry the last Triumph over to upgrade the next repair roll again. The coordinates drop them into a large orbit around a orange and red gas giant.

Also in the orbit are the early formations of a ring. Mostly large asteroids scattered around the giant, some the size of small moons and many the size of capital ships. The adrift ship is nowhere in sight, but the beacon indicates that it's up ahead inside the asteroid ring.
OOC:
Since no one took the opportunity to sleep or eat on the journey, everyone takes 2 strain and 1 setback die for all skill checks for the next 2 hours. It's roughly 2am on day 2 of your journey
Current Strain:
Armitage: 6/11
T1ny: 9/11
Mo: 6/10
Maladan: 6/11
Dek: 3/8

OOC:
Just out of curiosity, have we had any chance to recover strain between "scenes" as described in the book, pave 220 in the EotE book, not sure about the others? I feel like it's a Simple Cool or Discipline check, 1 success = 1 strain recovered. Also, I only show Mo at 1/10 strain (with the penalty for Obligation triggering), now 3 with the addition 2 you just gave. I guess I've been assuming that the 1 Advantages I've been generating on checks was just going to recover strain. I can adjust that and will specify in the future when I'm recovering strain. Before moving the ship in closer, Mo points to the sensors console and says to the folks in the room, "Any of you guys good with those, I wanna make sure we aren't flying into a trap here."
OOC:
Assuming it's Computers to check sensors, Mo is garbage at Computers, heh.Apr 21, 2019 4:11 pm

The book speaks about encounters, and we really haven't had any of those per se. That's why I was giving ample opportunity for people to chime in on how they would spend their time. Resting and eating must be accounted for. If I anticipate a lull, I'll give some time for the PCs to take any extra actions or narrative. A few examples are after the radio relay, before fixing the ship, and recently through hyperspace. If it's been a day or so (IRL) I'm going to assume theres nothing else you want to do and move the story forward

yeah, computers check. The freighter only has scanners out to Short range, the asteroid ring is Long range away because you're not yet inside the ringApr 22, 2019 9:28 pm
The engines hum calmly as the universe waits for our band of adventurers to take action. A small orange battery light illuminates on T1ny's torso and blinks intermittently

You didn't give me a difficulty, so I'm using Average, you can add dice if needed.OOC:
Gonna assume you'll want a piloting space check, so I'll put my side of things in, you can add in difficulty as needed. Added a blue die on the assumption that one of the people in the cockpit/bridge area are acting as a co-pilot.Last edited April 23, 2019 6:49 am

No need for the piloting check to get to the asteroid field, it's a simple action. I was waiting on the decision on how you were planning to enter it, or if anyone had a strategy. Did you still want to do a short range scan before entering the asteroid field, or once you were inside, or both?

Both. I may be a risk taker, but I'm not foolhardy. I wanna know if I'm walking into a trap. I'll still walk into it, but I wanna know ahead of time, lol.load next
