Silver Star - First Class Car

Beatrice took in the situation as she fished out her phone.

No silencers, lackeys, look bored, they don't expect trouble. Also, stupid enough to open fire even when they shouldn't draw attention. Maybe attention is a good thing. Why do I feel like I am about to do something stupid?*

Beatrice nervously approached the man that was motioning her forward, her hand shaking as she held it out toward the guy that was motioning her forward. As she reached out to place it in the bag** it slipped from her shaking fingers. She made a grab as if to catch the phone but only managed to bat it further away, past the man with the bag.
OOC
* That feeling that I am doing something incredibly stupid never goes away.
** I am assuming they have bags like the guys in the Coach Car.

I am going to try to use Bluff / Deception to distract them when I drop the phone so I can get the drop on them. The best I am hoping for is maybe a half action surprise round or even just a bonus on my initiative.

My Bluff is normally +5 with a +1 synergy from Sense Motive for a total of +6. Bluff / Deception has the Secret tag so is normally rolled by the GM.

If he even so much as looks down at the dropped phone, I am going to try punching him.

I'll go ahead and roll initiative but since I don't know if I will have a chance to make the attack before they shoot me, I'll hold off on that.

Sebastian knows that he doesn't have much time and instead he just hits the accelerator as much as he can. He knew that he had to take the lead no matter what and he would have to leave the train behind one way or the other regardless of where they would intercept for boarding... for that reason, he just hit it without taking into consideration how his passangers would feel... they were responsable for their own safety at that moment "Hope you guys strapped yourself tight"

Playing the distraught woman perfectly, Beatrice sent the phone flying with shaky fingers skittering past the thug. His eyes narrowed in annoyance, exhaling sharply in disbelief as he turned and bent over to retrieve the phone mumbling as he did, "Tupaya Suka." The words were cut short with a surprised yelp as Beatrice's fist connected with the back of his head. Though a solid hit, the thick cords of the thugs neck, tempered from years of violent living, seemingly absorbed most of the impact.

"Suka," he bellowed as he whirled around, the phone forgotten.
OOC:

Solid plan, and she did get the drop on him. Poor damage roll.

Regular combat round, though you have the initiative so you can act first.

As the russian calls out a warning and turns back towards Beatrice, she mutters a curse under her breath and aims her left fist at the thug's gut.
OOC
That feeling that I am doing something incredibly stupid still hasn't gone away.

There's is going to be some branching logic here.

I am going to start with a half action unarmed attack on the same thug.

If that thug is still standing, I am going to take a second half action unarmed attack on the same thug.

If the first hit drops the thug, I'll use my second half action to move over and pick up his pistol. If the second thug then tries to shoot me, I'll spend the action die, drop initiative by 5, roll my Reflex save and try to enter a stand off with the second thug.

I can update the descriptive part of the post once I know how the results come out.

Beatrice's fist to the Russian's abdomen did little, her follow up swing glancing harmlessly off the thug's muscled shoulder.

Chuckling in amusement, he hammer fisted the top of Beatrices head with the grip of his gun in rapid succession that had her seeing stars. She felt the wind from the second goon's missed attempt brush by her head only to be followed by another impact.
OOC:

You have suffered (6) points of subdual damage.

So far they seemed amused and mildly angry. Beatrice would guess that she has the next round to take them out (or at least one and take his gun and enter a standoff per your first plan) before they see her as a threat and start shooting.

With a hurried warning to his passengers, Sebastian mashed the gas that sent the Rogue lurching forward with a scream of its engine, pushing the small SUV perhaps past it's limits. Easily shifting through the moderate traffic, the drivers of today still frustratingly not yielding to the flashing lights of their vehicle, he easily closed the gap. They were making headway, the train easily glimpsed through the tractor trailer lot on their right.
OOC:

The train's lead is now 3 (or 60' ahead).

Pick your next strategy (keep in mind the requirements of each strategy) and send a Drive roll with your post.

Sebastian hadn't even completed his sentence before Dozer had his seatbelt clicked in.

"Man, I wish these things were designed with tactical pouches in mind."

Dozer looked over at the train again as he felt the G-forces from the acceleration

"You probably have a point. We might not have time to get two guys far enough front..."

Hours upon hours of combat and training flashed calculations through his head.

"...and if they are taking hostages, then they haven't had the chance to round them up yet. We might be able to catch them off guard."

His hands then moved through his pockets. With a clump, he dumped his spare Grappling Hook into the back seat.

Damn. I was hoping for a classic Rainbow Six breach and clear. Looks like this'll be a Mile High Club rush.

Tossing his night vision goggles over his shoulder at Cho, Kinda grabbed those out of reflex, Dozer flashed a smile at Sebastian.

"Alright Crabman. Up for a movie stunt? Get me in close to the last car!"

Sebastian's ears were pumping... he could hear his own heartbeat as the rest of his senses were boosted by the adrenaline surge by being at the wheel in his chase.

In the background, he could hear everything perfectly, and so far he was managing the adrenaline rush, but he couldn't take off his mad grin from his face as he just drove all the way.

He noticed that Dozer was doing something but he didn't figure what it was... he just noticed that he took some gear while his lateral view was kinda focused on the train to his right... however, he did hear what he said about getting closer.

"You want to board the train while we are driving?" at first he sounded like he was kind of scared... but then he just left a sick laugh escape from him "Man we should have been in previous operations together! I like your style"

With a clear view ahead, he just took the chance and tried to find a way to "Close-In" and hopefully make sure that there is an opening for Dozer to board without issues, and that would eventually help him a bit to speed up once again to take the lead and provide support... if he gets to beat the train up ahead.

FYI the advantages won with the Close-In strategy are Pause (meaning no lead is lost or gained) or Stress (meaning everyone other than the driver involved suffers stress damage).

Not trying to be critical or anything ... just trying to help you learn.

May I suggest - Redline again (even though I told you before the Rogue didn't have the acceleration I momentarily forgot that the Daredevil feat gave Sebastian a +2 to A/T on his vehicles :-P )

Kind of a basic Chase since all you are trying to do is catch the train ... and all it is trying to do is carry on the way it's going. Strategies really become important if your trying to catch someone without damaging them or something in the vehicle or are just trying to ram them off the road, etc..

I'll post a proper reply assuming the Redline strategy

Yeah, we should probably consider this the "tutorial level" for Vex. Something nice and easy to catch up with while getting the practice of using the rules down.

Now, I had dumped my Goggles and spare Grapple Hook (that's the version in Common Items, it's in the Shadow Play book) in order to shed 11.5 lbs. so I'm unencumbered.

Now, the Grapple Gun (Winch) has a range of 75 ft., and is a 1 handed item. It requires 1 full action to fire a standard range attack at DC 20. Once attached, I can activate the winch as a free action to draw me towards it at 25 ft. a round. I can then wrap up the rope with a full action. Might be some (-) modifier somewhere because I'm going to be firing this from a moving SUV onto a moving train.

So, y'know, FYI.

Beatrice staggered back and shook her head to clear her senses. This could've gone better, she thought. "So, that's how you want to play this?" she asked and she lunged forward kicking out with her foot at the closest thug's groin.
OOC
Pretty much the same plan as last time only going to try kick's instead of punches.

Half action kick, -2 Initiative, x2 Str damage. (new initiative = 15)

If still standing, follow up with a jab at the throat, half action standard unarmed attack.

Again, if the first hit drops him, move over, pick up his pistol and try to enter stand off if/when the second one tries to shoot me.

The Russian thug's amused eyes widened in surprise and pain as Beatrice's kick took him square in the groin that raised him on his toes, his eyes rolling back in his head has he crumpled to the floor in a heap. Wasting little time, she knelt and grabbed the goon's gun and brought it to bear on the second Russian.

"Ty malen'kaya shlyukha{you little whore}," he exclaimed stunned, his only option left to hold his gun trained on Beatrice as his mind struggled with what to do next. Sweat began to bead on his forehead, his eyes darting nervously, as he was clearly not expecting the passengers to be any sort of threat.
OOC:
Okay, so you took out the first thug and are in a standoff with the second. I went ahead and rolled an opposed Resolve check for both Beatrice and the Russian (that he lost). I didn't want to push things forward in case you wanted to take a free action.

The traffic whipped by as the small SUVs engines screamed, a wild glint to Sebastian's eyes that matched the elated grin on his face. Dozer offered a few key points on what they could expect as he began dumping unneeded gear in the back seat, the distance between them and the train decreasing by the second.
OOC:
Train lead is now 2 (40' ahead)

RusVal if you want to have Dozer use the grapple gun, this next round wouldn't be a bad time (once the gap is closed to 20' you can use the winch). Roll a ranged attack against DC 20. Something to consider ... if you spend an Action Die to increase your roll you may stand a decent chance of beating the opposed roll by 4 or more and picking two advantages - and by selecting Attack Run as your strategy if successful you give Dozer a +4 to his attack roll on his grapple gun AND if you beat the train's roll by 4 or more you can pick the Lead advantage as well (plus Lead again if you beat it by 8). Just some food for thought.

Also you both are being awarded an Action Die ... in appreciation for your consistency in posting and quality posts.

The passengers Nikolai had identified as the Russians that had to be involved with the deal Cho had informed him of were spread out about the car, and while not seemingly concerned with his photography one did eventually shoo him off with an annoyed wave of his hand. Finding his seat, he began to fire up his laptop just as the scenery out of the window shifted from the Miami rail yard to industrial when movement drew his attention to one of the Russians who had stood, stepping into the aisle with his gun in hand.

"Ladies and gentlemen," he spoke in a Russian accented, commanding tone, "I need you to stand, place all electronics you have on your person into one of my associates bags they will be holding, and begin moving towards the rear of the train"
OOC:
I rolled for your skilled use of conceal action. We are early in the game and you are still learning the system and how I prefer things so it's not a big deal. But remember in the future that you can attempt anything you want ... as in this case taking pictures of the Russians with your cellphone camera and then running their faces through facial rec. Ideally, as you recognized that the thugs probably wouldn't agree nor want their pictures taken, you would send a roll along with your description of the skill use and in this case would have been a conceal action roll for taking pictures and then another conceal action roll for running their photos through the computer software and then an investigation roll to run facial rec on the photos.

Unclicking his seatbelt, Dozer's smile widened into a grin.

"Thought I was joking earlier, didn't you? Then again..."

He then leans out the window. (OOC-Let's imagine he opened the electric window with his off hand during the last post)

"...why jump?"

Reaching his left arm forward, clenching his fist, he then tapped the button again. The hook once more popped out.

"When you can enter with styyyyyyle?!"

Aiming for the connector frame above the far back door, Dozer carefully adjusted, then lightly jabbed the trigger switch.
OOC:
Since you were so nice to give me an action die, it would be rude for me not you use it. ;D

The nervous darting of the eyes paused at her words and Beatrice saw the Russian's muscles begin to tense, what failure would mean for his future in trying to explain how he let a passenger get the drop on him displayed in the depths of his narrowing eyes ...

Her shot took him in the head, his body dropping lifeless to the floor of the cabin at the only other occupant's feet whose shocked eyes moved from the thug on the floor to Beatrice and back again.
OOC:
Both thugs are down. One in the corridor and the other in the first class cabin. There is one frightened passenger in the cabin (a woman). There are 4 other rooms between your room at the end and the one your standing in front of now. You figure any passengers in those rooms would have definitely heard the gunshot, maybe not in the next car up as the train is not the quietest and is blowing the horn at all road crossings.

Sebastian laughed as he looked at Dozer and his tactic in play... for some reason, he loved the idea of boarding the train in that fashion, he just hoped that he would have thought about that before because he might need to do something similar in order to board the train later on.

"You keep your eye on the front of the train! We'll see who has more style!" The driver tried to keep the car steady as Dozer just boarded and when he was sure, he just speed up once again in order to go to the front of the train and take some lead... the adrenaline and his heart pumping actually made him forget that they were not alone in the car and that Cho must have been witnessing everything in completely silence and perhaps thinking that both of them were just nuts. From his shoulder, he just shouted to the agent in the back seat "You are jumping with us into the train? Or you'll meet us back at HQ when this is over?" he started once again to speed up and tried to take the lead as he was getting closer to the intersections that he was taking about before "Better think fast cause we are about to have our window! Unless you have a grappling hook as well"

The wind roared in Dozer's ears and his eyes began to water as he leaned out the window, taking careful aim at the frame above the train cars rear door and fired. The grapple zipped towards the train car to thud against it, near enough wear Dozer aimed, only to find purchase mere seconds before shifting and then falling off. Cursing, Dozer winched the hook back in for another try.

Heart racing from the sheer thrill of it all, blood pumping, Sebastian cautioned Agent Cho riding in the rear seats to prepare his self to board or take over at the wheel, as he sent the Rogue surging forward, the engine pegged. Opa-locka Station was fast approaching and knowing they would lose visual, he sent the small SUV power sliding around Abel's Tire onto Superior St just as the rear of the train crossed in front of them. Dozer shied away from his open window, shielding his eyes from the splinters he was sure to come from the train crossing gate that did not seem to be rising fast enough, only to stare in amazement as the stunt driver expertly sent the car in a drift underneath. The gravel began to fly as the Rogue, now riding between the metro rail and passenger train tracks, closed the distance ...
OOC:
Rusval - Since Vex took the Redline strategy you did not get a bonus to your attack. Normally, and in the future, I would ask if you wanted to use another AD on the roll. However since Vex rolled a natural 20, that reduces the Lead by 1, and won his opposed check with the Lead advantage applied from Redline the Lead has been reduced to 0 and you are Victorious (meaning you have caught the train).

Options (Boarding the Train):
Rus - If you want to use the grapple gun again it is a ranged attack against DC 20.
Vex - If you want to use a grapple gun, Rus did have Dozer throw and extra one in the back (though this version does not have the wench). Same deal, DC 20 ranged attack. Then a DC 20 Athletics/Climb check to climb onto the train.
Rus/Vex - Or you both can make a Acrobatics/Jump check against DC 15 to jump onto the train.

Vex - Complusion Subplot. Jumping onto a moving train would trigger Sebastian's adrenaline junky compulsion. Fortunately he made his Will save to resist. Unfortunately (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) I rolled a natural 20. So he is immune to his Compulsion for the rest of the mission so if anything else would have triggered it he won't get credit for the success he might have got. Sebastian is now down to 9 successes to complete the subplot.
