I think I'd like to play a Doctor of Medicine that is looking into the ill-fated expedition. Maybe because a colleague of his was on the expedition and he wants to know what happened? Or maybe that colleague sent him a letter with some strange ramblings or something and he is looking into it because of that? He can be tied to the game story a different way, those are just what popped into my head while looking at the game description.
That works great. As mentioned elsewhere, there's a particular NPC that at least one would need to be connected with to start out.

Is there a link to the creation rules. I have a couple of thoughts for my agent, a Russian ex-pat who fled the revolution after the Tzar and his family were murdered who runs an Occult service (Tarot card reading, seances that kind of thing.) Also the long suffering, often ignored, brilliant in her own right assistant of the egyptologist.
Check the rules & mechanics thread...I posted a link to the quick start rules there.

Lwunder says:
I have a private eye investigator that I can submit.
This works for now, but you'll definitely need to fill-out the backstory and possessions. Also, not sure if this is your first time playing CoC, but you didn't attribute any points to the 'credit rating' skill. This determines your assets and spending ability. As it stands, you are essentially a homeless PI with nothing to his name. Assuming this was probably an oversight.

Thanks will fix it and fixed.

Cool. I'll work on creating the character later tonight.

I am leaning towards a professor or scholar that works/owns a book store.

I’ll roll for Luck

Rolls

Roll for Luck / Manually x5 - (3d6)

(563) = 14

I understood from the original game description that we would use the standard rules in the rulebook which meant we would use the standard array that is detailed there. That's what I did for my character. I'm afraid to now role for those abilities might require me to change the character altogether. I'm not sure I want to take the chance.

What’s Going to be most useful? An Occultist or a Gun Moll? I figure you have all smarts and heals kind of locked down. With the CON I wonder about an Occultist with Mythos experience, the low CON could represent some kind of long term unhealed wound or lingering taint from the contact.

I think an Occultist sounds more fun.

Can we use one of the alternative character creation methods mentioned in the book?
I don't have the PHB in front of me; what's the nature of the alternative creation method?
There's a bunch of them, ranging from a methods of tweaking below average scores, to rolling 5 x 3D6 and 2x 2D6+6 and allocating them to the stats you want, to a plain point-buy system.

Either way is fine. I know I wasn't specific, but honestly, I'm not terribly particular.

Ah, got it. Like I said above, I know I wasn't very specific here. All methods seem like they would, on average, generate similar quality investigators, so I'm fine with any of them.
Apr 11, 2019 8:45 pm
I prefer to err on the side of caution and assume that you would be specific since that's the safer choice. But I think I will roll here three times for 2d6+6x5 and five times for 3d6x5 just to see how it might work out.
OOC:
I think I'll stick with the standard array that I first used. It has a better low end and a higher top end. I'll submit the character before the end of the day.
