Chapter 3: Silver Isle, Floating Market

The tiefling Phillip was just talking to seems to have disappeared. Calling out to Magda, he reaches the bottom of the stairs and is greeted by the sight of the towering Blight with Lilith near the top, 20ft above the water. (Phillip WIS save vs. Horrific Appearance: SUCCESS).

Battle Music!

Magda pops up out of the water and mockingly makes baby sounds at Phillip. Apparently, this cruise ain't no Love Boat! (Phillip WIS save vs. Vicious Mockery: SUCCESS). As Magda mocks Phillip, she causes a vine to sprout from the Blight's crotch and make a grab for him, but his Phillip Tingle saves him from humiliation! (Phillip WIS save vs. Grasping Vine: SUCCESS).

Jack slashes at Baby Shark as it swims away. The shark disappears from view, leaving a trail of blood in the water. (7 damage). Still underwater, the half-elf then turns his attention to the monstrous seaweed thing. Shaken by Lilith's terrifying visage, Jack's shortsword strikes fail to pierce the blight's woody outer skin, but his hatchet manages to tear into it. (6 slashing).

Stepping through a tear in reality, Jineer travels to the far end of the cave. She finds it littered with debris similar to the weird odds and ends up at the hut. Perhaps there's something useful here?

Nela becomes mist and reappears at the wreckage, then turns and aims her yew wand at the Blight. A layer of numbing frost forms on the thing's surface but it has little effect on the monster. (Blight save vs. Frostbite: SUCCESS).

Zale manages to land half the punches he throws, but is unable to hit the nerve centers that wound have rendered Gemma immobile. (4+5 bludgeoning. Gemma saves vs. Stunning Strike). Though sober, the genasi sways out of the hag's reach like a drunk. The 8 foot tall hag strides forward and attempts to enfold Zale in a crushing embrace, but the monk ducks just in time, and Gemma's powerful arms only catch the wreck's rotting mast. (Ian and Nela may take OAs vs. Gemma).

Lilith leans forward in her perch and causes another bolt of lightning to stab down at Grog. (Call Lightning. Grog saves for half damage)

The Blight mindlessly flails away at Grog, Jack, and the newly-arrived Phillip. The thing smashes Grog twice with its driftwood arms. It's enough to totally crush a normal person like a bug, but it just makes the raging dwarf even angrier! (Grog takes 9 + 7 bludgeoning after DR). Jack is grabbed and his ribs pop in the monstrous vine's crushing grip! (Jack takes 11 bludgeoning damage, and is Grappled. Escape DC 15). Phillip is grabbed as well, yanked off of the stone ledge, and towards the seaweed blight's gaping maw! (Phillip takes 10 bludgeoning + 14 piercing damage, and is Grappled. Escape DC 15).
OOC:
Any order: Grog, Ian, Jack, and Phillip. Ian and Nela may take OAs vs. Gemma.

Starting next round, those grappled by the Blight (Jack and Phillip) will take 1d6+6 bludgeoning damage at the start of each of their turns until the grapple ends. The vine has AC 15 and can be severed by dealing 6 slashing damage or more to it at once. Cutting the vine doesn’t hurt the blight but ends the grapple.

OOC:
If you hit a target with all three tentacles, it must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature's speed is halved, it has disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws, and it can't use reactions for 1 minute.

Battle Music!

With Gemma's attention on Zale, Nela lashes out with the tentacle whip. (4 + 3 bludgeoning)

Ian also tries a cheap shot with his silver scimitar but misses. Backing up, he brings his crossbow to bear and scores a solid hit! The bolt buries itself to the fletching in Gemma's humped back, but doesn'tseem to wound her as much as expected. (26 piercing before damage resistance)

Phillip cuts free of the grappling vines, then lands atop the Seaweed Blight and hacks away at its face! (6 slashing) He spots Magda in the water 30 feet away.
OOC:
Still to act: Jack and Grog. Both are Frightened of Lilith.

Jack is also Grappled underwater. The grappling vine has AC 15 and can be severed by dealing 6 slashing damage or more to it at once. Cutting the vine doesn’t hurt the blight but ends the grapple.

Jack reels in pain as the blight grabs hold of him! He slashes twice with his sword, hoping to break free of the grapple. Shaking his head, he feels some of his strength returning.

Action to attack with the shortsword twice. Bonus Action to Second Wind. All attacks on Blight.

Jack misses with his first attack, but with his second he slashes free of the grappling vines.
OOC:
Jack is no longer grappled. You're still underwater, under the effects of Water Breathing and Water Walk. Are you moving, or staying put?

Grog's turn, then back to the top. Grog is engaged by the Blight, Frightened of Lilith.

Jack moves as far from the blight as possible, not provoking any attacks from it because he is so mobile.
OOC:
mobile feat prevents OAs so long as I make an attack on that creature that round.
Jul 19, 2019 3:26 pm
OOC:
Which direction, Jack?
1) Towards (and onto?) the wreck?
2) Off to the side, towards Magda?
3) Towards the other side?

Staying underwater, or surfacing?

Grog has yet to act for Round 3 but Nela, Zale, and Jineer can go for top of Round 4.
Jul 19, 2019 3:33 pm
OOC:
Provided that towards and onto the wreck satisfies the frightened condition, I will do that, using a mix of underwater and surfacing as needed to avoid other creatures.

Also, including the end of turn check for frightened.

OOC:
Because Grog is Frightened of Lilith he can't come any closer to the Blight. He can throw his javelin but can't move into melee for the greataxe attack. If you want you can keep that attack roll (it beats the Blight's 15 AC) and just roll javelin damage instead. If you're wondering how the Blight has been smashing you with its branches, it's got 15 ft reach.

Also, at the end of your turn, don't forget to reattempt the WIS save vs. the Frightened condition. DC 11. Roll with Disadvantage.

Battle Music!

Jack makes for the wreck and manages to shake off the crippling terror of Lilith.

Finding a respite, Jineer uses her magic to mend her wounds.

With a well-timed spell, Nela turns Magda into a harmless little sea worm!

Grog nails Lilith with a well-placed javelin throw, causing the hag to lose her hold on the storm cloud above her. The cloud melts away into a harmless haze! Lilith takes 8 damage and loses Concentration!
OOC:
Still need Grog's 2nd damage roll and end-of-turn WIS save (roll with Disadvantage). Also need Zale's Round 4 action, then it's the baddies' turn.
